Time sensitive: Now through midnight Monday (Nov 27) single tickets are on sale at a 25% discount - enter promotion code: saveme25. Tickets can be purchased at daytonperformingarts.org/tickets I just purchased 5 premium seats for the Friday night show. I told my three children and their spouses, I will pay for the tickets for anyone that is interested in attending. So far four takers. Don't know about the 8 grandkids yet - it could get expensive. Thanks for the heads up. Bought front orchestra tickets that Monday for April 27. Have tickets at the house. Wife is willing to go without strings attached, lol. She actually is warming up to Jackie's Christmas songs because she likes her voice in the lower registers. Probably because my wife was always in the Alto range. GLT, I'm glad your wife has decided to go with you to see Jackie perform. I do, however, hope it goes better than when I saw Jackie perform for the first time in September. I discovered Jackie's music in May of this year, on a flight from Chicago to Los Angels, while looking through the music the airline offered on the flight. I had no idea who Jackie Evancho was, but I found her Awakening album and from the very first song, was hopelessly hooked. I literally listened to the album for the entire five hour flight. When I got home, I, like others on this forum, spent hours upon hours on YouTube listening to every video I could find, and within a week, I had purchased all seven of her albums and all three DVD's. I had my wife and daughter listen to a few of her songs, and they, like your wife, could not appreciate her beautiful soprano voice. My wife actually said that she would rather stick needles in her ears than to listen to another song, She also thought it was a little weird that a 55 year old man spent so much time listening to a 17 year old girl. After a few months, I discovered that Jackie would be performing in Napa, at the Up Town Theater and I told her, that for my birthday, I would like three tickets and for them to go with me to see her perform. They agreed to go with me providing we could do some wine tasting while we were in Napa, so there were some strings attached. When we arrived at the theater, that's when things started to go south. The tickets we purchased were in the fifth row back and we had the first three seats from the isle. When we purchased the seats, we noticed the fourth seat over was still available but all of the other seats in the row were sold. My wife was concerned that a "creepy old man" would purchase the fourth seat. When we arrived, there was in fact an older man sitting in the fourth seat. He had to be in his mid 60,s maybe a bit older and he pegged my wife and daughters creep meter instantly. The mans hair was colored jet black and he wouldn't stop talking about Jackie to the people next to him, which were obviously annoyed. Once Jackie started to sing, he made moaning noises throughout her performance, which even creeped me out. At the end of each of Jackie's songs, there were a number of older men that would whoop an yell out things to Jackie which my wife and daughter thought was completely inappropriate for a girl of Jackie's age, and frankly I though it was a little weird myself. When Jackie performed, How Great Thou Art, there was a man near the front that got so carried away in worship, I think he literally found God! After the show, I got their feedback on what they thought. They both said that they did in fact, enjoy Jackie's music and had no issue with her singing. They thought that the older men in the audience were acting like teen age girls at a Justin Bieber concert and thought it was quite creepy. For me, Jackie's performance was absolutely amazing and I was not disappointed. Unfortunately, for the above mentioned reasons, it is unlikely that I will ever get my wife to go to see Jackie perform again. Jackie will be performing nearby in Ceritos California in February, and if I want to go, I will have to go by myself, which my wife has told me she thinks is weird. Hopefully your experience will be better.

On several videos they can be heard and they impair my enjoyment on the videos. I can imagine what it would be like to hear that live and what effect it has on Jackie.

Hopefully your experience will be better. Oh my goodness! You had me in tears I was laughing so hard! I even had to call up my wife and read your story to her because I thought she would get a kick out of your discovery of Jackie, your wife's reaction, and the concert experience. I'm at a travel plaza on the PA Turnpike west of Philly and had been wondering if I should just forget this forum since it seems kind of dead. Thanks for pumping some life into it, lol! I love the Awakening album! I'm somewhat to blame for my wife's resistance to Jackie because I tried too hard at the beginning to get her to like her singing. It had the opposite effect, lol! She's more sympathetic now that I've gotten my obsession under control 😁. It also might have something to do with me buying her a .83 carat diamond engagement ring (married over 41 years)a couple weeks ago. Actually, she agreed to go before that, lol! I have read a few things about the "creepy" fans at her concerts. Hopefully the classy venue at Dayton will suppress any outbursts. I have a bigger worry, albeit still tiny, about experiencing a little letdown because of all the hype people give about her concerts. I've had that happen to me with movies friends have hyped. I say that because fans hype her singing of Vincent. She does a fine job on it, but the song, like the painting, doesnt move me like it apparently does many others. I think she sings May It Be and TWWW almost like a lounge singer, and yet fans think they are the greatest ever. I love her rendition of The Lord's Prayer, but it looks like she has dropped that from her repertoire. I really hope she does Lovers, another one of my favorites. From what little I've been able to hear of her recent singing, her voice sounds very beautiful and I'm sure I will thoroughly enjoy the concert, especially since it will be with full orchestra. Anyway, thanks for the effort you put into writing about your experiences. You made my day/evening!

It's interesting that you brought this up. While I do enjoy every Jackie song, just because I love her voice, some songs just don't seem to do enough to highlight her voice. Not to say the song is bad, or that it isn't a good fit for her voice, it just doesn't really move me like others do. I guess we all have those, but I don't hear too many people agree with me that Vincent and TWWW are 2 of those for me. I have been warming up to Vincent now, having heard it in my last 4 Jackie concerts. But other fans seem to always see it as one of her all-time best songs. I do, however, really like May It Be. It just goes to show that we all are moved by different songs. Jackie seems to really love "Lovers". It would sound so great with a live full orchestra, so I'm hoping she keeps it in the setlist for Dayton.

Now THAT is some great advertising copy! Jackie should notice it and use it often. Is it posted on the Facebook sites that she might look at or hear about?

....and some wonder around here why folks like myself might be a tad hesitant about going to one of her concerts. These sort of posts reaffirm my concerns. The creepy old man behavior is real, and highly disturbing.
