rickolsen: I haven't seen Colby since the last time I saw him in the carrier. I know he hasn't eaten anything because the food bowls are still full. I'm getting a little worried.

rickolsen: The last time I saw Colby was about 11:15 Monday morning. That's 2 and a half days ago. I've never had a cat stay hidden this long before when I brought it home. Doesn't look like he's eaten anything either. I'm really getting worried.

rickolsen: You'd think he'd be really hungry and thirsty by now. The people I got him from said they kept him in a mud room with a dog who gave him grief. That's why they gave him away because they wanted their dog. No wonder he's scared. I hate people like that.

tunemonger: Rick, you need to find him and put him in a small room for a while, until he feels safe. Might take a few months.

rickolsen: 4 1/2 days and still no Colby. I took a flashlight and looked everywhere I could think of. Nothing. Haven't heard a sound either. Doesn't look like he's eaten anything. I've never had a cat act like this before. I don't know what to do.

rickolsen: I just found Colby. He's under my kitchen sink. I put some canned wet cat food in there for him. I'm not going to bother him. I guess it's a waiting game until he comes out.

Admin: The forum was down for almost 2 days. This was a Proboards problem and there was nothing I could do about it.

rickolsen: I did some research. When a cat is rehomed to a new environment their stress level and fear can get so high they may not eat or drink for a week. If they are of normal weight (Colby is) they are in no danger. I was so worried. I feel better now.
Sept 21, 2023 21:26:10 GMT -5
rickolsen: Colby disappeared again. No idea where he is. He hasn't been out in the open since I brought him home. He didn't eat any of the food I put under the sink. I've never had a cat hide this long or go without eating this long before.
Sept 22, 2023 23:57:55 GMT -5
rickolsen: I can't tell if Colby has drunk any water. Research says a cat can go without drinking 3 or 4 days. That means Colby should have died Thursday or Friday, but I've heard noises after that. Never had a cat hide longer than 2 days before. I'm worried.

rickolsen: Looked under the kitchen sink again. Looked under everything. Looked in cabinets and drawers. Looked behind stuff. No Colby. I put out another bowl of water. Nothing.

rickolsen: I'm going to Walmart when it opens. I'm going to get a cat diffuser. It plugs into the wall and emits a mist that is supposed to calm a scared cat. If I have enough money I'll get one for my bedroom and the living room. That should cover the kitchen too.
Sept 24, 2023 2:14:03 GMT -5
rickolsen: I decided against the diffuser. Let him come out when he's ready. I heard him moving around, but I don't know where he was. Still doesn't look like he's eaten or drunk anything.

rickolsen: I'm making Greek Potato Salad. It's getting harder for me to breathe. I got winded just standing there peeling potatoes. I had to take a break and catch my breath.

rickolsen: Oh, this Greek Potato Salad. A great batch. I don't mean to brag, but I am an excellent cook. First made this in 1981. I've still got it. The secret is always use scallions (top or green onions) and enough salt. It take lots of salt.

rickolsen: Also make sure you use enough lemon juice. Online recipes say to use extra virgin olive oil which is very expensive. I learned to make it with plain old vegetable oil. My teacher was a woman who grew up in Greece.

rickolsen: Colby still hasn't come out, but it looks like he's eaten a little something. No idea where he's hiding. I've looked under everything many times.
Sept 26, 2023 14:46:59 GMT -5
rickolsen: Looked under everything again. No Colby, but it looks like he's eaten a little more. Still doesn't look like he's drunk any water, but male cats, especially orange tabbies, don't drink much. Sounded like he was moving around earlier.

rickolsen: Still no Colby, but I heard him moving around earlier. Hasn't eaten or drunk much. Can't imagine where he's hiding. It's been two weeks.
