When I saw Jackie in Kalamazoo, not quite 10 months ago, it was 98.5% full. Almost 1500 people. Merrilville was 25% to 30% full. I guessed about 300 people. That doesn't include the mezzanine which was closed. What could have happened in 10 months to cause this disparity? I don't get it. Cleveland wasn't much better. I don't know about St Charles.

Promotion, Rick, if no one knows you are going to be there they won't come. Merrilville is my favorite Jackie concert I have been to. I think it's because she was so chatty. She talked a lot and drew you into her performance. It completely changed the atmosphere of the concert from the two previous I've attended. There is no good reason a show of this caliber should have such a dismal attendance. Somebody has to promote this show a lot more than they are doing now.

The 1,000 or so I'm sure have other ways to know where she is; besides they are spread all over the world and only maybe 30-40 are travelers. Like Miketigfan said, the ones she needs to reach are those not following her, that her name rings a bell from AGT or PBS, and they think, "She's doing a concert here? I'll bet she can put on a show". How you do that, cost-effectively, I don't know. When Lisa asked for suggestions, I put forward the free papers you see in almost any urban area, that are filled with ads from venues from symphony halls down to bars, that people who go out at night pick up to see what's going on. Lisa didn't respond to the suggestion. HC replied that those ads are expensive, but if bars can afford them, they can't be that pricey.

One thing I forgot to mention in my review. Jackie seems to have bought into the Foster myth because she said she was 8 when she met him. She was actually 9. I could be wrong, but I think one reason Foster keeps making the mistake is that he probably saw some of her earliest videos like the very first OMBC filmed when she WAS eight. (Remember that a clip from that video was included on the Elizabeth Vargas piece, for example.) In their joint interview that appears as The Making of DWM and also the shorter version on the video of DWMIC he refers to what we were seeing was just insane; he probably conflated the events in his mind. This is basically what I've figured. To get her onto the 2009 Oct 24 show in NJ, they must have sent some earlier vids, & some of those could have been done before her birthday in 2009 April. The "seeing" quote also is consistent with that. So I agree with you.

Actually what I was hoping for was not just fan videos, but something like what we saw from Milwaukee- what must have been videos arranged for, or possibly done by Jackie's team, judging from the fact that they were published officially on her channel, and incorporate two steady camera angles, so two shooters, and edited together with fades, etc., but using the same good quality audio. I was hoping this was going to be a regular thing- but maybe it's still too early to give up on similar footage appearing from the recent concerts. Those Milwaukee videos were something special, but that was something that just happened to come together. Maybe Jackie's team knew about it ahead of time; maybe not. I also don't know how the Evanchos got those videos to get them posted to Jackie's channel, but I'm happy that it all came together. Hello Colin, Good to see you here. You and I were sitting fairly close at Milwaukee. I didn't notice any cameras that might be considered professional or professional grade. Did you? Lord knows when I sit as close to Jackie as I did at Milwaukee I tend to lose peripheral vision. Could the vids we saw from Milwaukee have been shot from a close-in fan with a small but better than cell phone quality camera and skillfully edited? I do recall the attendees were videoing with abandon. More so even than St Charles.

Hi Rick, Great Merrillville review! So glad you got to see PK in action. He brings a lot to Jackie's show. I hope she's picking his brain while he's still working with her. I haven't seen audience number for St Charles. I expect they are slightly better than Merrillville and Cleveland but the venue was smaller too, so the empty seats weren't so glaringly noticeable.

Schrodinger Says: "This is beginning to sound like it should be in the Concert Attendance thread..."
Heck, I didn't even know there is a concert attendance thread.
I think there should be an Advertising/Promoting Jackie thread. Who knows, we might come up with a useful idea for Jackie and her team.

Now that I think of it, when Peter did his second solo there were some changing symbols on the video screen. That was the only time I noticed anything on it. The video screen had curtains and they were partially closed.

I don't think I have adequately expressed how great Jackie's concert was in Merrilville so I am going to try again.
Peter came out and sat at the piano. The music for Pure Imagination started to play and then Peter introduced Jackie as Jackie Avonko. He mispronounced her name. I was a little miffed by this. Jackie sang Pure Imagination. Jackie was very chatty in Merrilville. She introduced the songs and her talking with the audience really added to her show. Next Jackie sang Made To Dream, Memories, Take Me There, and Music Of The Night. All favorites of mine.
Jackie sang two songs she had only sung in concert once the night before. These were a song by Cold Play and a new original. She said the original will be on her new album which is coming out in the spring. Jackie sang a medley of six songs which wasn't really a medley. She would introduce the song and sing it almost in it's entirety and then introduce the next song.
In her medley Jackie sang Con Te Partiro and The Prayer in their entirety. She hasn't sung The Prayer since the AGT tour six years ago. She hasn't sung Con Te Partiro since December 29, 2011. Both were a real treat. Jackie sang Nessun Dorma, Lovers, and ended the show with The Lord's Prayer, again all favorites of mine.
Jackie wore the black dress she wore in Winnipeg for the first half of the show. In pictures it looks like Jackie's top is exposed, but actually the dress has a flesh colored material on top and no skin was exposed. Her dress in the second half was white and went down to mid thigh. It was covered with sequins and absolutely sparkled.
I thought the sound was a little too loud for the auditorium, but it was a good sound system and handled it well. There was a video screen, but it wasn't used. In total Jackie sang 21 songs.
Superlatives don't adequately express just how good this concert was. I've been down on Peter and the backing tracks, but Peter was excellent. They had candles all around the stage and it was kind of intimate with just Jackie and Peter up there. I've seen Jackie live three times now and this was my favorite.
If you get the chance go see Jackie and her new show. You won't regret it.

I wouldn't either, if it were so, but I'm afraid relatively few of those did any posting on the forum, let alone drumming. There was a postering project for a concert somewhere in California, I believe, using a poster design by Ana Ausfeld, and materials contributed by the fans. If I remember right, Lisa offered to have posters made for a similar program in other cities, but I don't think it ever happened.

Actually, posting on a forum and promoting Jackie are two different things. For instance, when my Daughter and I went to Jackie's concert in Midland TX my daughter chatted up the owner of the motel we were staying at. She convinced him to check out a few of Jackie's youtube videos and told him about the concert we were going to. The next day when we checked out he told her that he had purchased tickets for himself and his family of 5 and gone to the concert. They loved it and were going to see if they could go to another one some time. That is what i am talking about when i say promoting Jackie.
