Edit: I noticed that you mentioned ND in your review. Did she sing it straight or with the high note that you didn't particularly care for? Nessun Dorma had the high note at the end, but you know, it didn't bother me at all. I love that song when Jackie sings it and I got to hear it live.

willyiam, that's how I remember it. The medley was almost the complete song each time so Jackie really sang 21 songs.

One thing I forgot to mention in my review. Jackie seems to have bought into the Foster myth because she said she was 8 when she met him. She was actually 9.

One thing I forgot to mention in my review. Jackie seems to have bought into the Foster myth because she said she was 8 when she met him. She was actually 9. Yes, it's on videotape. The only thing I could ever think of is that she had to send him a vid to get onto that show in Newark NJ, 2009 Oct 24. Maybe the E's sent him a vid taken when she was 8. They could certainly say 9 with no embarrassment. Chris Dallo even goes on & on talking about how amazing it is. Edit: Schrodinger even posted both vids, rehearsal & performance, on a thread in the pre-AGT vids board: jackieevanchofans.proboards.com/thread/137/jackie-meets-david-foster-october

This is my review of the Merrilville Indiana concert. I have to be careful what I say and how I say it. I don't want to make any enemies, but I have to be honest. Here goes.
I got there three hours early and sat in my car for two 1/2 hours before I went in. There was no outside marquee with Jackie's name on it. If I hadn't known she was there I would have thought the place was closed.
Attendance was dismal. I doubt if there were 300 people there. The whole right section of the auditorium was almost empty from the stage to the back. I counted 10 people sitting in that whole section. The crowd was mostly older people. I saw a few kids and young people, but I would say most were my age and older.
Kent sat in front of me just as he did in Kalamazoo with Shawn. I saw Len Rouche and Agog so there were a few people there I knew. The girl who had her picture taken with Jackie and Maggie sat in the row in front of me about four seats over. I was in the third row center stage. Jackie was right in front of me. I coudn't have had a better seat.
Jackie had her own sound man, Mark, and she thanked him at the end. I thought the sound was a little too loud for such a small auditorium. It was a good sound system and handled Jackie's highs with no problem.
Jackie came out wearing the black dress she wore in Winnipeg. If you look at this dress in pictures it looks like Jackie's top is mostly bare with just bands of fabric in the appropriate places. In fact the top of the dress is a flesh colored material and no skin was exposed. Her second dress was a white dress that went down to mid thigh. It was covered in sequins or something and just sparkled.
Jackie started out with Pure Imagination. Then she sang some songs from Awakening including two of my favorites, Memories and Take Me There. She sang Music Of The Night. She did a medley of about six songs. Jackie didn't dedicate Impossible Dream to Lisa this time, but she did dedicate What A Wonderful World to her Dad.
People know the things I've said about Peter Keiswalter and the backing tracks in the past. I take it all back. Peter was excellent as were his two solos. My only beef with him is that after being with Jackie for two years he mispronounces her last name. He pronounces it avonko.
Jackie was in fine voice. I've never heard her sound better. Her lows were full and her highs were crystal clear just like the old days. Jackie was very chatty last night. She introduced almost every song sometimes extensively. She said her new album is coming out in the spring and the original song she sang will be on it.
I am especially pleased because I got to hear Jackie sing Con Te Partiro, Nessun Dorma, and The Prayer live. They were exquisite. I was further pleased that there was no annoying video screen. I enjoyed this concert every bit as much as I enjoyed Detroit and Kalamazoo.
If you have never seen Jackie live you just have to do it. This was an excellent show and she was at her very best. A big THANK YOU to Rick for this excellent review. I knew Jackie would win you over! She's just too good...

No Ave María Rick, I, too, was wondering what you would say about the Peter-only accompaniment. It seems they pulled it off. I miss the full orchestras as much as anyone, but understand that can't be done anymore. It's surely easier now to make changes on the fly. One of my best experiences at a concert was when Jackie and Peter did "Vincent" in Las Vegas. Jackie said they were just playing around with it earlier in the day and decided to perform it. The small audience concerns me. I've thought for some time now, since it's become apparent that people are no longer coming out to see the freak little kid that Jackie formerly was, that Jackie may have to pay her dues again, as she did pre-AGT. Maybe hit the road, travel by car and do all sorts of gigs in out of the way places, at less prestigious venues. Her tour seems to be moving in that direction already. Hopefully, she won't have to do a tour of dive bars in Wyoming; but I think she's going to have to really put in some miles if she wants to save this thing. This may not be compatible with attending public school. Can she afford to wait two more years?

All of her CA. concerts are selling well. In fact the main floor at her Campbell concert is already mostly gone. It has been available for only a couple of weeks. CA. Loves Jackie.

"CA loves Jackie."
True, but she may do even better in Florida. (BTW, I say that as a Californian who's lived here for most of his life.) She also has a lot of potential in the "flyover" states, not to mention internationally.
Jackie is in a very, very small genre, but classical crossover is virtually dead in the US. She could revitalize it by adding something unique. She's trying to do that by adding pop; it may or may not work.
I still think she has to get out on her own & go to college, whether it's a regular academic one or a music conservatory. Manhattan, where she seems to want to go, should be ideal. She needs the "fertilization" for her musical mind. She's really starting over in her career, but I wouldn't be so pessimistic as to say it's over.

The way I see it is her "career" is on cruise control while she focuses on school and college. I suspect that this pattern will continue for the foreseeable future. If Jackie had wanted a full-time career like some other artist her age, she would have made it a priority. I am puzzled, however, by the lack of promotion for the concert tour. The only ads I see while surfing the net are for the November 27th Vets Concert in Providence. Now possibly the theater or promoter has done the internet ad buy, but it seems inconceivable to me to put such time and effort into a tour without some promotion to help ticket sales, even if locally.

It has been such a dry spell on up close reports my anticipations are overcoming. But from Festa Italiana we had not only reports, but wonderful videos! Hope, hope Hello Schrodinger, I think you (well all of us really) will be in luck with videos and recordings from St Charles, where the venue seemed to be unconcerned with people using their devices unobtrusively. Not so at Merrillville, where I noticed the ushers/security warning a half dozen or more people that having fun was not allowed. The next few days should tell the story.

It will be interesting to see if Jackie changes up the set list or anything else from last night. Hello rick. There was one difference that I noticed because I was watching for it. Jackie ended her show with TLP at St Charles which she usually saves for her encore. All I Ask Of You was added as her encore. I had the feeling it was a mistake on Jackie's part (misreading the set list, most likely) to include TLP in the regular show portion at St Charles.

Rick, thank you for your review! Like you, I have been bothered recently by Jackie's backing track, "beefed up" so to speak by a handful of strings; it's hard to know who was doing what and how much any of it contributed to the overall performance!? The current arrangement you, agog (Paul), and others describe reminds me of the wishes expressed on Amazon back in the old days that she would sing a Capella with no backup at all so that her own pure tones could be savored. Do you have any thoughts on that? Hi there James. Since RO has responded to your post I'd like to add my take about Jackie's on stage accompaniment. In my opinion less is more when it comes to Jackie's show. PK is adept at hitting just the right volume so as to not drown Jackie out. Recently some posters at Amz said Jackie could make good use of a band of three to six musicians to accompany her in addition to PK. This was immediately shot down by others who noted that at this stage of her career Jackie's concerts are too infrequent to have a dedicated band. The musicians need steady work. As for a pick up band in various cities, the available talent may be spotty at any given time. Poor PK would need to rehearse new people at each venue. Heck we all remember even some of the orchestras Jackie used were less than stellar. That's where that discussion ended. As for me I think Jackie should include at least one a capella offering as a regular feature of her concerts. Perhaps Jackie can learn a guitar accompaniment like she did the piano, even if it's only for one specific song. How does Jackie singing Nella Fantasia to her own guitar accompaniment sound to you? Probably as good as it sounds to me in my imagination. I bet Jackie's audience would love it.

Jackie committed to TLP with her stage patter. What was poor PK to do? Say "No you ditzy teenage girl! The show's OVER. Walk off the stage like you're supposed to and we'll come back and give it to them as an encore like we planned!" Hmm JR? Is that what you'd have him do to poor Jackie? That's very mean of you.
