After signing with Melody Place in October of 2020, this is Jackie's next album, to be released September, 2022. This is from the article in Broadway World by Marissa Tomeo, May 04, 2022 -
"Jackie recorded the album with an all-star band of musicians at the famed Sound Stage Studio in Nashville with producer Fred Mollin with additional recording at Audio Images- Pittsburgh PA."
The Carousel of Time track list:
01. Both Sides Now 02. River 03. Circle Game 04. The Gallery 05. A Case of You 06. Blue 07. For Free 08. I had A King 09. Rainy Night House 10. Urge for Going
Interesting that a web search for Melody Place Music only shows a Facebook url and the website on Facebook is no longer active:
There are also Instagram and Twitter accounts for Melody Place Music that are not current and have no mention of Jackie:
Also interesting, is the absence of any mention of Jackie on any of the social media sites,
There are no photos of Jackie! There is no mention of Jackie in the extensive list of performers he's worked with! But, buried in the News tab, under Summer 2021, we find this: "After an initial release of the track, "River" the wonderfully brilliant song by Joni Mitchell, Fred's version for Melody Place with the phenomenally gifted artist, Jackie Evancho, is nearly up to 1 million hits on YouTube. With things on hold during the pandemic, we are encouraged now to start the next round of recording for her first full album for Melody Place. More news soon."
He makes sure to tout "River" was his version and got 1 Million hits on Youtube! Not a word about Jackie's performance of the song!!

I've already posted all that, MelodyPlace website has been closed since October 7th. 2021 dead. No testimony from anyone. Not even from Sanborn McGraw, who is responsible for communication. A company called Melody Place LLC with Aaron Mollin (Fred's son?) was defunct. It's all very mysterious.

This may be the most interpretive cover I've heard. That's a risk, but I think it worked. :-)

Only thing I wish she had done was "at all"...she goes up to what sounds like an E instead of down to the C like the versions I'm used too. I don't like that that part as much. That's part of her interpretation I guess. I do like her ending...she does manage to make her way back down there...lol.

IMHO: Even though it's a cover, she has managed, by not straying too far from the original, to make this her own, and I think it will be warmly accepted! Good job Jackie! Well Done!

Even if I see Both Sides Now as an independent and successful cover, I still don't understand the point behind a Joni Motchell cover album. Unfortunately, Jackie's version pales behind the version from "Coda" because it sounds more optimistic and lively. Apparently most of the songs Jackie chose are of a more quiet nature. Faster and livelier songs would be much more meaningful. I doubt that the album will bring many new (and she will lose fans again) fans to Jackie. By the way, what has Jackie been up to since last August when this recording finished, hopefully she's already working on something new.

By the way, what has Jackie been up to since last August when this recording finished, hopefully she's already working on something new. First, her name is Joni Mitchell, not Motchell!! Second, Jackie kinda/sorta gave us the reason she selected Joni's work for her next album: "She inspires me as an artist and I hope I do justice to her incredible body of work".
Third, based on what we have learned about the reasons for Jackie's disappearance, I believe the lyrics of Joni's songs are what drew Jackie to Joni's music!
Both Sides Now lyrics:
Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way that you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions that I recall I really don't know love Really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say, "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads and say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all It's life's illusions that I recall I really don't know life I really don't know life at all
Fourth, you can't honestly believe "Jackie's version pales behind the version from "CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) "!!
Here is Emilia Jones - Both Sides Now
Jackie's version PALES behind this? ?? I don't think so!

First, if you find typos, you can keep them. Secondly . I know why Jackie is doing the album, I just don't know what it will bring to her career. Third, Jackie sings the first two times "still looks somehow" and not "still somehow" like in the original and at the end. Interesting variant that I like, but others may hear a mistake in it. Fourth. In my opinion, the Coda version is more simply structured and therefore easier to listen to than Jackie's version. Jackie's version is more complicated, has breaks and a jazzy approach. I love something like that.

I love something like that. The new album won't draw in new fans to any significant degree...it caters to her older audience who are already familiar with Joni Mitchell. It doesn't offer any "wow" factor, or reinvent the song enough to get anyone's attention. It's just yet another pretty voice, one of many, singing an old classic. While Jackie fans like myself are enjoying new material from her, I don't see changing the landscape or trajectory of her career. What do I think of Jackie singing River and Both Sides Now? It's nice, it's pretty, it's Jackie, and unfortunately it just gets drowned out in a sea of pretty voices singing classics like these for the hundredth time.
