By living a few miles away from them. But, in fact, the "rapids" for which the city is named were eliminated many years ago by a dam built for both flood control and diverting river water to a race to power the grinding wheels of big downstream flour mills. The mills are long gone and apparently city fathers no longer worry about flooding because they are planning on knocking down the dam and recreating the rapids to attract tourists who would try chuting them in their kayaks. It would also help the thousands of spawning salmon that come up the river from Lake Michigan in the spring and fall. Right now they either have to jump up and over about a 15 foot wall of water to reach the calm waters of the river behind the dam or navigate a fish ladder on one end of it. Many try jumping and I've seen some amazingly make it. Thanks for the thumbs up you gave my post.

What I was referring to was the way she's used her voice from the time she cut and released her debut album, Prelude To A Dream in 2009, to her album Debut 10 years later. In some of her last, pre-hiatus interviews she said she'd learned to "belt" while doing that last album and that was the way she wanted to go. Also, with that album, she said she became independent of others choosing what and how she "should" sing. If I was close to Jackie and a trusted advisor, I would tell her to "unlearn" it and stick with the musical style that gave her the ability to build a million dollar house for her and her family when she was only 12 years old. Successful businesses most often falter and fail because they loose connection with why and how they became successful in the first place. i.e. with their roots; their raison d'etre. Jackie's career is far from "broke" as the resident "ass" here so hopefully describes. She needs to do a few things to keep it from breaking. First, fire the publicist that persists to this day in promoting her as the "world's youngest opera singer". She's never performed in an opera let alone a school musical. Probably 1% of the music market listens to opera and even less have ever bought a ticket for one. She doesn't have an operatic voice and has only sung 3 arias out of the more than 100 songs she's performed. Continuing to promote her that way is a total turnoff to the younger audience she wants to attract to her music and concert performances. Two. Hire a manager/agent that is fiercely aggressive, well connected and has some imagination. There are literally hundreds of venues in this Country she's never even come close to performing in. Chicago for one huge one; Kansas City; St. Louis; Minneapolis; Grand Rapids, MI (1 million metro market) ... one of the most culturally sophisticated Great Lakes cities with its own opera and ballet companies; one of the best symphony orchestras in the Country; DeVos Hall which is rated one of the best venues acoustically in the Country etc. etc. etc.. The "ass" cites "album sales" as one of the criteria for determining that her career is "broke". I don't know where this guy's been for the last 10 years, (no where near the music business apparently) but since the MediaHuman program was invented that long ago, any one, from any where can download music or a music video from YouTube for free with it, among others like it. That toothpaste squirted from its tube long ago. Album sales for all performers in any genre tanked with the ready availability of those type of "free" programs. The market for good, classic, timelessly beautiful music and those, like Jackie, who are inimitably gifted to perform it is huge and available to those performers who have the mettle, smarts, connections and native talent to penetrate it and perpetuate a career in it. I listen to her Mi Mancherai from 10 years ago and I'm Not That Girl 10 years later, and I hear no difference in her ability to use her equisite gift to interpret a song like only a select few others are able. She is without question one of the world's great singers and will continue to be if uses her new found ability to "belt" sparingly; very selectively; wisely. The draconian lockdown, panicked and politically driven policies imposed world wide stopped her and every performer in every genre in their tracks from performing concerts ... which is how they make their living these days and pay their bills. If you've attended a Jackie concert, you know she is among the very best stage performers in her business; which is where she needs to be to keep from going "broke" or becoming broken. I do agree, and have been saying as much, that she needs to stick with what made her famous...that is her forte, that is what she does best. It's okay for her to experiment some, but the types of songs (and singing style) she sang in the several years following AGT is where it is at for her. In pop music, while Jackie fans support her, she doesn't stand out in the crowd of young talent who sing in that genre today. The Debut album, singing broadway songs, did horribly. I love Jackie's voice, and I was completely "ho-hum" about most of the music on that album. Agree also with finding a proven mgmt team...one that is experienced, innovative, and ambitious. As far as poor "album" sales, you can buy her full albums online when they are released. For the free, downloadable stuff, you can still see how many views, hits, likes, etc. that newly released material gets. You know that I'm sure, so your disingenuous retort on that...well, we'll just let your pretend you didn't say that. lol As for Jackie's career - whether you want to call it "broke" or not, it's been on the major downslide for years now. Lisa sure sees it, as she recently talked about how labels don't support or invest in young talent these days and also how Jackie's older fan base is unfortunately gradually dying off. I do agree that she has an amazing stage presence, and she is very likable. Her dilema is figuring out how to gain new fans to replace the dwindling fan base.

Well, unless Jackie is locked into a label, she could do what multiple successful young singers have done, use social media cleverly. The most recent example would probably be Angelina Jordan who is now 15 years old and only just signed a record deal with Republic Records which is a New York City-based record label owned by Universal Music Group. Over many years Angelina covered over 130 songs that were published in YouTube videos in her own channel and on her grandmother's channel. Her grandmother's channel also included behind the scenes types of video to paint a broader picture of Angelina. Her YouTube videos were generally simple and shot at home or simple studio settings. And they include many concert videos. It is rare that anyone gets blocked from reacting to her videos. If fact, this looks to be encouraged as long as one follows Copyright rules and does not try to make money off of Angelina's Copyrighted material. In other words, Angelina created a big cache of her own Copyrighted material. Only recently has more polished YouTube videos been done after signing with the record label. They were done with Stargate, the Norwegian duo known as top shelf record producers with 17 Grammy nominations and 4 wins. They have worked with a who's who of recording stars. Yes Jackie had David Foster early on, but for some reason she never exploded under him. Angelina also has dozens upon dozens, if not hundreds, of YouTube Reactors play and comment upon her covers and other videos. This further expands her base to more people. Angelina also properly used her appearances on AGT Champions to literally double her YouTube views to over 600 million and her Facebook views to over 2 billion. She also somehow was able to NOT sign a contract with Simon Cowell's company allowing her more freedom. In other words, her uncle, who is her manager, did a great job protecting Angelina and growing her career. It is argumentative whether or not Jackie's manager, her father, did as well. We shall see once Angelina has become 21 years old which family manager did the best. In addition, Angelina was not afraid of recording music that she wrote at an early age (her song Shield was written as a 12-year old) and publish it on YouTube. The bottom line is that Angelina is starting to grow significantly to the point that she moved from Norway to Los Angeles to further build her career. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then we have the amazing success of Allie Sherlock, the 16-year old Irish street performer. Her channel alone has almost 700 million views of her YouTube videos of her street performances. There are over 4.57M subscribers to her channel. In other words, Allie created a big cache of her own Copyrighted material. She has an entire mini-enterprise. Now Jackie is older than the two prior mentioned singers by 5 and 6 years.
Jackie has done many things that these singers have not done such as being in a movie with a famous movie star, tons of TV appearances and 3 PBS specials, hundreds of concert appearances, modeling, endorsements, and making 9 albums of which the last 8 were #1s on the Classical Charts. Three DVDs released. Many singles released. Etc, etc.
But for whatever reason, Jackie got boxed into a specific music genue, Opera, when she was not an Opera singer. And the genre of Classical Crossover gets dropped as a category for Grammy Awards the year she would have won it. Bad luck.
And Jackie has been trying to get out of the Opera box, and just has not been able to.
Unfortunately, again, Jackie makes a great appearance on the Masked Singer and has millions see she is just a great singer, and not only an Opera singer, and COVID-19 hits. And any momentum from the show is buried.
And now Jackie has gone underground.
The problem, is that when she surfaces again, she will probably still have the Opera singer tag rather than the Kitty tag.
And Jackie probably will be stuck with that tag for the rest of her life.
Look at Charlotte Church who tried to dump a similar tag, without much success. Charlotte left music for 5 years. Came out with a new album in a different music genre, but still is remembered for her classical roots.
I hope Jackie can succeed, but it is going to be tough sledding until she can get a new hook to build upon. The Masked Singer may be could have been that new hook, but that ship, unfortunately, got torpedoed by COVID-19.
Weird how some people just seem to have better good fortune than others, and they seem to always end up in the right place at the right time, and were able to take advantage of the situations.

Weird how some people just seem to have better good fortune than others, and they seem to always end up in the right place at the right time, and were able to take advantage of the situations. Yeah, not really opera....but cc is more accurate. Also, part of Jackie's schtick was being the little girl with the big voice. Now that she's grown up, that aspect of her appeal is gone. Also, Jackie sings cc best...it's her forte. When she sings other stuff, like pop, it's good...nice....pleasant...but not unique enough to stand out in the crowd of pop talent out there. Her voice isn't particularly memorable, or unique enough, at least in the pop music world of today. It's okay for her to try new stuff, but she likely will ultimately have to settle with what took her to fame in the first place...cc mixed with some Songs from the Silver Screen type of stuff. Her fan base is dwindling with time as her aged fan base gradually dies off, but I'm sure she will be able to do her little concerts for a number of years to come if she wants to. It's happened before, but it's also historically difficult for a successful singer in one genre to successfully transition to another genre. People like you for what brought you to them in the first place, it's usually what you do best, and they aren't interested for the most part in you switching to an entirely different genre. One more note...Jackie doesn't have the "cool" factor. That's what you need to blow the lid off in the pop music market...that and great, original material that really stands out and the people can relate to (see Billie Eilish). It's okay that Jackie isn't "cool/hip" - that's not who she is. She's a relatively conservative, demur personality with a degree of social awkwardness and other self-reflective disorders. I just hope she retains the sweet, gracious, caring presence that she's been known for over the years and doesn't somehow become angry or bitter at her inability to transition to other successful music markets. She has already expressed aggravation at people pigeon holing her into that ten year old kid with the big voice stereotype, and of course now she's gone underground for six straight months - disappearing entirely from all social media, as a failed undercover photo of her flipping the bird has been spotted on a couple of social media sites.

My opinion: 1) I still believe that something dramatically happend 2) I have doubts, if Jackie ever will appear on the surface again 3) The next public presence is Nov. 7, Ft. Lauderdale. If this concert should be canceled (not due to Covid reasons), Jackie finished her career.

A interesting bio of Jackie as of June 2021
First I have not seen this particular one that notes many interesting things across many topics. Her net worth is listed as having jumped to $5 million as of June 2021. And having an annual salary of $350,000 to $400,000. Wonder where those numbers were obtained?

Here's a link to an interesting ranking of the "Greatest Women In Music, 1980s to today." published in March 2020. Guess what, Jackie is ranked #21 among the 150 listed and above her favorite singer, Lady Gaga. One's musical taste goes to the very definition of what is "subjective". My attention span in trying to listen to the up and coming Angelina Jordan, who to me is just another in a long and forgettable line of Mariah Carrey wannabes, lasts less than 30 seconds. Jackie? I've never tired of listening to any song she's ever sung from the first time I heard her, because most all are of a quality that's makes them timelessly listenable by a musical artist whose renditions of them is also of that same extraordinarily high quality. Call me an OTT Jackie fan. But the list I've just linked you to ... seems to agree with my point of view and what and who pleases both my ears and soul to listen to. Being ranked #21 on that list of the most "popular" and considered best female vocalists over the last 40 years... "ain't just chopped liver". It's one reason among many why I believe she has a good and maybe great future in "the music business". But like most young people in any business, she needs good management and especially a good mentor to get and keep her going down the right road to success, whatever she envisions that to be. www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/100-greatest-women-in-music-of-the-last-thirty-years

Here's a sobering thought!! Jackie is living in her New York apartment, has dropped her singing career, and is studying to be a Veterinarian! If anyone can calm an angry Shepherd, Jackie can!!

Nobody among us on this Jackie Evancho proboard, most certainly including me, really has any clue as to the meaning of her disappearance from social media or why she's done it. But I cannot agree it's because her career is "broken"; irreparably over; done with. It is only if she decides it is and no one here knows that or can unless they have some inside track to her and what she's thinking. I do believe it's wounded, probably severely .... as is Jackie.
The wounds were first inflicted, imho, in 2016 when it became public that her mother was militantly trying to jam her solution to what should have remained private Evancho family issues down the throats of parents in not only her kid's school district, but those in the rest of the State of Pennsylvania and beyond; enlisting LBGTQ militants to join her in her "mission". Jackie, unfortunately, but necessarily, signed on. That weirded out and turned off many in the base that had helped her build her career from day one.
Following very soon after was her decision to accept President Trump's invitation to sing the National Anthem at his Inauguration as President of the United States. She had to have been blind sided by the reaction of 1/2 the Nation and probably what was 1/2 of her remaining base to her decision that became a target to those insanely infected with the Trump Derangement Syndrome. Has anyone here already forgotten the vicious, truly hateful, venomous messages that overwhelmed her social media for months following what she accepted as a rare honor and privilege ... as would any right thinking American citizen who loved their Country? Worse yet, they were purposefully aimed and fired at a 16 year old; just a teen; many of the most vicious and hurtful of the posts coming ironically from the homosexual community who turned on her for seeming to support their most hated nemesis, President Trump.
Are Jackie's career troubles actually due to her shortcomings or failure as a musical artist or more to cultural issues and the politics that appear inevitably downstream from them?
I think what was especially interesting about Jackie's performance as The Kitty, was the audience's recognition and acceptance of her as an extraordinary talent and performer without having a clue as to who was inside the costume; in fact, one of the best that had ever appeared on that program. An objectively based evaluation if there ever was one. It, unfortunately, was a rare opportunity to repair previously inflicted damage to her career, lost to the Covid hysteria that damaged or destroyed opportunities for performers and many others all over the world the following year and into the next. I don't think there can be any doubt that Jackie has been severely hurt, personally and professionally, but for reasons totally beyond her ability or any one else's to control.
