The bottom level looked totally full to me. I couldn't see the upper decks though... I could not believe my ears when I heard the opening chords of Caruso. I have long wanted Jackie to sing it and she did a very credible job of it. Lara Fabian still owns that song though but I'm sure Jackie will get better and better with it as she sings it more and more. Jackie was very beautiful and powerful on the stage tonight. Unfortunately the sound engineer tried to make PK drown her out(which he could not do lol). But somebody needs to tell the soundman it's Jackie's concert not the piano man's. I didn't think Jackie would own lovers either but after 3 years KB no longer had exclusive rights to that song. My money's on Jackie owning Caruso in less than 3 years. After all, it is not as hard to sing as Lovers.

Good to see string players. None of the concerts in the northeast over Thanksgiving had strings. I wonder if the decision whether to have strings at any given concert is based on what it costs. Perhaps it was too expensive in the northeast, but the cost in Texas would keep them within their budget. Anyone know about such things?

Was Jackie's conversation during the concert the usual, or did she allude to Washington? I imagine it could have been comforting to be in her own realm again, among longtime fans who are there just to see her.

But if it doesn't stop raining in SoCal, we'll all have to charter boats to get there.

Mind if I post that paragraph on Amazon? It's pretty significant IMO. FWIW, things over there are generally less nasty than they've been, since there's been plenty of substance to talk about. There's always a couple people that are a problem, but in general, it's worst over there when there's nothing going on. Concert intro: Executive director of the Cowan Center mentions that Donald Trump contacted her way back in spring, saying that he would like Jackie to sing the national anthem at his inauguration and was hoping that she would be okay with Jackie then having to rush to Tyler. Jackie might or might not have known that he had her picked way in advance, but it sure looks like Jackie was Trump's first (and not last) choice. Trump might have heard of this concert when it was announced and worried it might conflict.

I've never been over there, just because I'm already involved in more social media that I can keep up with.

"...Donald Drumpf contacted her way back in spring, saying that he would like Jackie to sing the national anthem at his inauguration..." rlhamil
I find that hard to believe. It would mean he knew six months in advance he would win.

It would mean he knew six months in advance he would win. He might not have even won the nomination at that point. (When did he lock it up? April?) But people on his team could have been thinking ahead at that point. They could have had a "just in case" attitude. Did Hillary also look into who would be available to sing it? Maybe.

This has now been covered pretty well by others but I'll still add a few of my own observations and experiences of the event. Since I only live a little over an hour's driving time north of Tyler, I didn't start out until after noon, with a couple of stops in between to break up the drive, all the way listening to Awakening on my car's CD player. I arrived at 3:15, just in time for check-in at my hotel and with enough time to shower and change before heading over to the fan gathering. I still had enough time beforehand to go over to UT Tyler and photograph the Cowan Center's marquee as seen in these photos. They were the only ones I took, because as has been noted security was very much in evidence; however, I sat near several audience members photographing and/or recording who had no interruption or interference whatsoever. The fan gathering was at a lovely restaurant-boutique called The Potpourri House which was a little hard to find, tucked away from the street as it was. It was evidently more of a lunch spot, which was perfect for us, since at 4:45 the lunch crowd had already gone and we virtually had the place to ourselves. The food was excellent and reasonably priced; kudos to Mike for finding such a wonderful spot! Others have already described much of the concert itself, but I would like to elaborate on certain aspects that struck me. Myself and others of us thought it would be nice to give Jackie a SO when she first appeared, but I figured that might not work because of the way she often enters DURING the song; this proved indeed to be the case. The spokesman for the event came out to introduce the evening and thank the sponsors as described above, then only after Peter began the opening notes for Pure Imagination did Jackie actually appear to thundering applause and a partial SO. Jackie herself squelched this by beginning to sing after only a short pause, continuing through a thoroughly ordinary (for her) rendition of her frequent opening number; naturally when she began, everyone stopped applauding and those standing (like me!) once again took our seats. However, the audience wasn't to be denied - when it ended the place virtually exploded with a full and prolonged SO. this had the happy effect of energizing Jackie in the way I remember from now almost six years ago when I first saw her at the Myerson in Dallas! From that point her performances were energetic and spot on for the rest of the evening, with more full SO's than I remember lately. Her third number was my favorite, Memories, and I don't remember a better and more emotional performance of it. At another point during one of the SO's someone near the middle of the house shouted, "Jackie, thank you for coming to Tyler!" which brought the usual shy giggles. Although mention has been made of the possible slight audio problems in the first half, I really enjoyed it best, likely because this time due to the opening jolt she didn't need to "warm up" into full concert mode. The only negative I would offer is that what I jotted down in my program as her "Medley" of favorites in the second half was as everyone knows truncated versions often consisting of only a verse or two; the first two - OMBC and CTP - I found especially disappointing, lacking as they did the killer high notes at the ends. I was slightly surprised that it was Lovers that ended the night, a fine rendition that again got a large, full SO; as usual, it was followed by TLP to bring the evening to a close. A word about the background film clips and still photo montages. This was the first time I'd seen the pre-concert slide show of Jackie from toddler to near-present and thought it was a very effective way to remind audience members who don't follow her like WE do about her history. It was also a plus that it included some early photos I'd never seen before, like one from her OMBC performance on AGT showing it from the side, her arms outstretched and across, the judges applauding with Piers Morgan standing before the others. During the concert some of the usual montages were shown, like the religious scenes during TLP, but during both Writing On The Wall and Safe & Sound the music videos were playing. The only downside is that now the opening photo montage seriously needs to be redone to include shots from the Inaugural!

I was the guy sitting right behind you. My first concert. It has been said many times, live is so much better than CD's. I thought - no way. I drove in from Arkansas and listened to DWM, SFSS and Awakening. I actually missed my exit off of I-20 because ND was playing and I lost those minutes of time. Really. How could live be better? Yea, Yea she was beautiful and all. But during MOTN when she got to the end of the two big lines - let your spirit start to soar - then - let your soul take you long to be. In 50 years of music - never in my life. omg breathless, the most powerful, clear, building to as almost unconscious sound I have ever heard. Ever. I noticed you started clapping and standing well before to crowd did. I shared your enthusiasm. I joined the board today just to say that. When I saw the set-list on an earlier post and MOTN was omitted I had to join in.
