My goodness. I'm one who "cares" about it. Fascinating. I worked on my own family's history for a good 10 years. Still finding stuff about us. The most fun part was writing docu-stories about my ancestors based on the evidence I found, surmising what it must have been like to for them to make a decision to cross an ocean and then actually, and very bravely do it. It was incredibly dangerous and in some cases, deadly, for all of who emigrated to the "Golden Isle" in the early 18th century like many of my ancestors did. Why did they leave? Why did they risk everything to do so? What special kind of mettle did they possess to survive a tortuous, harrowing journey to a destination they had only a dreamlike impression of?
This is a brief excerpt from one of my "stories": "When the day dawned that Anna and Maria dreaded most, the men busied themselves with hitching the ox to the wagon and loading it with necessities including straw which they piled deeply on its floor to help cushion and insulate its passengers. The older girls tended to the youngest while their mothers made sure the last live embers in the hearths were doused and then busily swept and tidied their cottages as though they would return to them in a week or so. With every sweep another part of their heart broke a little. With every last, longing glance around they wished another answer to their dilemma would miraculously appear. Then they closed the door to most of what they'd known and cared for all their lives." Although I wrote that, tears flowed when I did, and still today anytime I go back to it. Their exodus cost them the lives of two of their youngest children from disease while crossing the Atlantic. Interest in history as a subject, I think, can be best inspired and learned from your own. Thank you so much for posting that information about Jackie's family.

Thanks for the reply and interest in this story. There was no basketball tournament to watch so I spent time reconstructing the research I did on Jackie's ancestry years ago. I am not at home where my actual records and main notes are. Someday I may add more even info when I get a chance. Below is some more history general clarification as I interpret details.
The area of Galicia had other names including Halycyna in Polish and Volhynia. The western area of Galicia wound up in Poland and the eastern part wound up in Ukraine or Russia, depending if Ukraine was independent or controlled by Russia. The "Rus" were originally mostly from Scandinavia, now Sweden and have been called Viking Rus. This area is the origin of the name "Russia". Moscow Russia came later and has somewhat different ethnic origins. Some smaller areas and people of Galicia wound up elsewhere, including Slovakia. When other powers took over areas, they forced the native Carpatho-Ruthenians to learn their language and culture. The original inhabitants, once called Rus, Carpatho-Ruthenians, Rusyns and other names, were then called Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, et al depending on which country they wound up in. People who knew they were Carptho-Ruthenians and the history of this area came on the old Amazon Forum and elsewhere and stated that Jackie was of Carpatho-Ruthenian descent because of the Evancho name. Approximately how much would require more extensive and detailed family history and genetic testing. The work I did back to Jackie's great great grandparents revealed they all lived in this small area. Jackie's great great great grandfather (I think his name was William or Bill) Evancho (father of Joseph) lived in the Galicia area taken over by Russia/Ukraine. Joseph's wife, Betty (Figulski) (deceased May 13, 2011) Evancho's parents were from an area in Poland (once in Galicia) just a few miles from the Slovakian and Ukrainian borders. Jackie's paternal grandmother Linda Kapples Evancho's ancestors were also from nearby Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary, all close by or once in "Galicia" or Ruthenia. Some of these areas were once "kingdoms". Jackie once stated that one of her ancestors was royalty of some kind (I think maybe she said a princess), I do not remember what she said exactly. I assume it was on grandmother Linda's side of the family. There's a lot of incredibly complicated ethnic and "country" history available on the internet for anyone interested. Lisa was correct when she said the Evancho's side of the family ancestry was a "mess".

When the Masked Singer video of "kitty" first appeared on this Forum, it took me about 20 seconds of her singing for me to conclude it was Jackie. The voice is much more like The Debut than her earlier work. The physical size, mannerisms and most clues lead to Jackie. Some clues I could not understand the words or relate to her life. Other people on line figured out those. I didn't originally watch this show as after seeing it a few minutes the first season, I decided it wasn't for me. After some research, I found out that it has more contestants this year and more episodes running until late May with about one contestant being eliminated each episode except perhaps for the last. After seeing the time Jackie was in California earlier in the year and the format, I believe all episodes have been completed and are in the can. I certainly hope so for Jackie's and everyone's sake. There is no way this could be kept secret from the judges otherwise and continue their silly guesses. The online speculation generates interest and some people appear to have been convinced by Jackie fans in You Tube comments that Kitty is likely Jackie. I hope she did really well and look forward to some welcome diversion from the current troubles.

The last date that I could fine for taping was February 28th. Don't know if that was for the finals or not. If so than Jackie might not have made it since she had concerts on Feb 27th to 29th. Maybe she was able to fly to LA from Utah and be there for the final taping but I highly doubt it. I do want to speculate on what song she may be singing next or later if she makes it past the April 1st show. She will probably continue with pop like songs but her next one may be a song called 'A 1000 Times' that she had briefly uploaded on her Instagram account in November but was gone sometime before Thanksgiving. It was only 50 seconds long but her voice was beautiful. It's probably a long shot but I wonder why she took it down so quickly for. Hopefully she will perform it on an upcoming episode.

Has anyone seen the entire episode of The Wizards of Waverly Place in which Jackie appeared? I have only seen the short part which is on YouTube. At the end she states that she hopes that she has worked off her detention. Being on detention was a clue on The Masked Singer. Why was she on detention on the TV show?

She had very little screen time; I don't recall there was an explanation why she was on detention. Maybe it was itself an explanation (volunteer for something, get out of detention). edit: the Masked Singer clue sounds more like it was from real life (scaring a classmate by talking about seeing ghosts); there's no shortage of practical jokers in that family. And Jackie actually did see a ghost, years later, at a concert; walked down an aisle and just disappeared (per a social media post).

She really lucked out with the costume that she was given, I wonder how much input they have on costumes If any. If she had gotten Chaka Khan's monster costume her appeal would be quite diminished.

Hopefully, this show will greatly increase Jackie’s profile with her desired audience. She could not have chosen a more perfect vehicle to exhibit her talents, while avoiding the stigma of being type cast as that “ Voice of an Angel” girl. I highly doubt, her performance would have garnered this many views, without the hook of anonymity. It will be interesting to see if she releases a new song after her appearance on the show concludes. Won’t it be poetic if she finishes second again..

I wonder how many members of the panel will recognize her. Even Robin Thicke saw her when she was not much more than half her current age and may not have figured out the Fireworks clue. Nick Cannon has seem her more recently, so I am sure he will know (if he doesn't already).
