It looks to me her audience has gotten too old to stand up In fairness, while the aisles were roomy enough to get to one's seat without having people move out of the way, the floor was VERY slippery with dress shoes on, at least until one put some weight on the ground. So standing was not the most confident experience. And there's been complaints in forums about front-row cheerleaders, etc; so standing for every single song is probably pushing it. They're all great, but the crowd will go along more if one reacts to the best of the best rather than everything. The hall was clean and modern in layout, a good size for a relatively small city...but if they allow drinks in there, cupholders would sure help too. :-) I know you are T&C'ing. But they were church folk gasping for air after every song in 2011. My wife and I went to San Francisco one time and starting driving down Hwy 1. We both said we would go 50 miles, it can't get better than that. We drove hundreds of miles. The best of the best isn't always known. Next time you go to a football game I want you to only clap at the best of the best touchdown. Sipher that one. Ha Anyway, I put agog in charge.

BTW, unless my memory is really going, it was the Vavilov (misattributed to Caccini) Ave Maria that she did last night (and recorded on Awakening).

Proof of the existence of the (not-so-)mythical younger fans? Wow!

But for the purposes of capturing the history of set lists, if one says which it is, accuracy is better; the previously posted set list said it was the Bach/Gonoud (which she's also done, on AGT and thus the DVD with OHN).

What's that? I may be triangulating a bit, because I sometimes prefer to find positions that reduce differences; and while I have no problem with lots of enthusiasm (in appropriate taste for the setting), I'm not a cheerleader by nature; if I want to be supportive, I want to also be credible. :-)

You are correct that the Ave Maria was Vavilov/Caccini. This is from agog's review of the first half: "Her final song before the mid first half break was Ave Maria. The one she's been doing lately. The only lyrics are (guess what?...) Ave Maria. Everyone liked it. This version (Gounod?) has more range to showcase Jackie's skills but give me Schubert." Ave Maria's (Vavilov/Caccini) only lyric is "Ave Maria". I've changed my set lists.

Intermission right now. Same set list so far. She sounds even better tonight, more comfortable; tightened and changed the between-song patter a bit.
edit: oops, no Ave Maria tonight - no explanation why except a source says seen nursing a hot tea backstage, but the omission of one song aside (second half the same), you couldn't tell; she really nailed everything tonight! Hall looked 85% or more full, all three balconies; some of that is that the Dayton arts community is very active and effective and has season ticket holders as well as a "cheap seats" ($10, first come first served) program to make the arts accessible to anyone that can afford a movie ticket (and maybe a pair of binoculars); but more than the usual regulars that I've seen before were there, midwest folks that get less tour stops than the coasts were there from at least as far as Chicago (300 miles or so).
Otherwise, the set list was as last night. Info strongly implies Jackie is actively involved in more than just the singing. I'll leave it at that, but IMO it's all good. My own observation also suggests that she's more in character (expression, etc) for songs recently, and the bits other than the singing (and outfits - both always great) are getting attention too. The days of being an adult for the songs and a little kid in-between are long gone; perhaps label, even some (but not all!) closer influence may have prolonged those, but they're history now.

You confirmed my impression of tonight's first half RLH. Jackie was on her game tonight. Best first half I've experienced. The house was mostly packed. I forgot to turn around during the standing O's last night. Tonight when I did so I saw a house and three balconies standing enthusiastically for Jackie. It was inspiring. Outside at the parking lot I spoke with a lady violinist from the orchestra. Asked her what she as a professional musician thought of Jackie. She said Jackie has a "pure voice." "She could use a bit of polishing, but she's got what it takes." I've decided to drive home tonight. I'll have a bit more tomorrow. Mostly that Jackie killed it in that first half.
