Having just seen Jackie at her Christmas concert in Lexington, Mass., I am pining even more for Jackie to do a TV Christmas Special. With your indulgence I am reposting a thread I created two years ago with some minor changes:
I think we would all love to see Jackie do another TV special. This time of year my mind turns to Christmas with Jackie Evancho.
I understand that Jackie's PBS specials cost about $million each. Well, no wonder - 11 or so cameras, recording the audio in situ, make-up artist, hair stylist, costumer, et al. Thus, there are a million reasons there won't be a Christmas special with Jackie anytime soon.
But I can dream too.
We need to imagine a low-cost way of producing a Christmas with Jackie Evancho TV special. Using one and only one film crew (heck, Juliet who showed an interest in photography in her earlier years could do it with a smart phone) and taking the sound tracks from Jackie's previous recordings, rather than trying to record the sound in situ, we can pare the budget considerably. In essence, the TV special would be a series of music videos.

Scene I Jackie is alone in a recording studio. A sprig of mistletoe hangs from the microphone boom. A forlorn "Charlie Brown Christmas tree" stands alone on a stool next to Jackie. Jackie wistfully sings I'll Be Home for Christmas. Cut to the Evancho home: Juliet, Zak and Rachel are decorating the family Christmas tree; Mike and Lisa alternately draw a window curtain aside and peer out into the nite as it snows heavily. Concern etches Mike's and Lisa's faces. Cut to a pair of headlights cutting thru the snow and dark. Cut to Jackie arriving at the home's front door laden with brightly wrapped presents - Jackie's home. Joy abounds. Cut to Jackie hanging her favorite ornament on the Christmas tree, smilingly warmly. Song ends.

Scene II Jackie and brother and sisters are sitting/sprawling on the floor in front of the fireplace roasting chestnuts in the Evancho home as Jackie sings The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire). Interspersed in the video are scenes of Jackie, lisa and the other children having fun baking & decorating Christmas cookies in the kitchen. Song ends.
Scene III Jackie is in a kindergarten classroom. The children are busy at their desks coloring pictures of Santa Claus and Christmas trees as Jackie strolls about the room singing a light-hearted Christmas song. Interspersed are shots of children holding their drawings up to the camera. As the song end, the children are lined up in front of Jackie, proudly holding their artistic creations. Kicker: the children gather around Jackie and sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas as Jackie smiles broadly.

Scene IV Jackie, bundled against the cold, walks up a hill toward a lone pine tree which stands atop the hill. It is a clear and starry nite, She is singing Silent Nite. As the song ends, the brightest star in the firmament aligns with the tip top of the tree. Jackie smiles knowingly as the song ends.
Scene V Jackie, dressed in old-fashioned clothing, approaches small antique table. Atop the table are three glass snow globes. In turn, Jackie picks up each of the snow globes and shakes them. As she starts to sing I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas, a ballerina inside the first snow globe pirouettes in a scene from The Nutcracker... Inside the second snow globe children build a snowman... and the third snow globe a horse pulls a open sleigh thru the snow. Note: stock footage is used for each of these scenarios.

Scene VI Jackie is in a chapel with beautiful stained-glass windows. She sings O Come All, Ye Faithful as she walks slowly down the aisle, passing empty pews. As she walks, Jackie gazes upward toward the stained-glass windows and the camera lingers on each window in turn. As the song ends, Jackie is in front of the church, facing the pews. The camera pulls back and, lo and behold, the once empty pews are now filled with congregants. Jackie smiles.
Scene VII Jackie is in an ornate church, dressed in a red gown. The altar is flush with poinsettias. Jackie stands before the altar and sings O Holy Nite. The scene ends with a view of a manger.

I know nothing of TV production, but think each of these scenes could be filmed in the Pittsburgh area, thus saving money. Further, in my imagination, we can dispense with the wardrobe mistress, key grip, best boy, hair stylist...saving even more money. I would love to read any other imagined scenes for our fantasy Christmas with Jackie Evancho TV special.
P.S. I am reminded each Christmas season that It's a Wonderful Life was not a box office hit when it was released to theatres. The movie only became favorite Christmas fare when it passed out of copyright and WOR TV in NYC played in a continuous loop each Christmas time at no cost to the station. So too, it is my Christmas wish that Christmas with Jackie Evancho could be produced and shown at little cost to TV stations. I think it would gain in popularity year by year and become a Christmas tradition for millions.
