Can somebody of you confirm if there were really 1500 visitors as Will said in his post? This would have been a sold out concert. It wasn't full, but from where I was, the main level certainly looked fuller than the last ticket map I saw posted here. I can't say how full the balcony was, couldn't really see it well, except there were some people up there, so it wasn't closed. Given people that have travel problems, season ticket holders that don't attend everything etc, it's theoretically possible (although a skeptic might be forgiven for suspecting exaggeration) that by some sense of the word it was sold out, but if 1500 is full, then I wouldn't take "1500 visitors" literally, since it wasn't quite full.

Ken C Varn I was at the concert and have a few observations that I am going to share. I was hesitant to post this because I may ruffle some feathers. The concert was good, but there are some things that I noticed that could be improved upon. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and others may disagree with me, but I thought it was worth sharing.
1. There were issues with balance regarding the sound engineering. Jackie was overpowered by the accompaniment on several songs because of over-amplification of the band.
2. There were times that I thought Jackie was forcing her voice. Perhaps it was related to her compensating for the overpowering accompaniment, but I also think she was trying to push her vocal style outside of her normal timbre. I think she sounds much better when she stays in her bel-canto vocal style.
3. The soundboard mixing of Jackie’s voice on “Somewhere” was not good. Once again, this was partially attributed to poor balance from sound engineering. Personally, “Somewhere” is my least favorite song on “The Debut” and I think Jackie should consider substituting it out on her concerts with a better song choice such as “Apocalypse” from Two Hearts. I just don't think that the augmented synthesized voice at the beginning of the song, works in a live concert.
4. There were multiple occasions when there were microphone plosives occurring (breath and p-pops) while Jackie was singing. I've rarely heard this happen in past concerts, but it seemed more frequent in this one. Maybe a different mic or possibly a mic cover would minimize this.
5. For some reason, it is much more obvious in this concert that the instrumentation on the stage does not always coincide with the musical accompaniment, especially when the band members aren't playing and you hear a solo guitar, flute, or other instrument that isn't on stage (pre-recorded backing track). I think that it takes away from the "live music" expectations of a concert. I understand this has been done before, but for some reason it seemed more noticeable at this concert.
6. As mentioned in the review, there was one faux pas at the beginning of the song “Falling Slowly” where Jackie came in too soon. However, Jackie brushed it off and recovered quite nicely after she said something like, “I was too excited to sing for you and came in at the wrong place.”
7. The "Music Of The Night" Phantom song performance was very good and quite different from the way she has performed it in the past - incorporating a phantom vocal interlude at the end. However, she introduced the song by saying that she longed to perform as Christine, yet she sang songs the Phantom would sing. I think she should have sung songs that Christine sang for a better lead-in. I would suggest "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "Think of Me".
8. Jackie was much more animated in the second half of the show, as were the accompanying musicians. It seemed that the musicians were more into the second half of the program, rather than appearing to just go through the motions in the first half, which was mostly music from her earlier albums.
9. Personally, I think that the incorporation of the Queen song, "Somebody to Love" was not a good segue to encore the OMBC / ND song medley. Prior to the Queen song, Jackie had everyone on their feet from that fabulous high note at the end of ND. It sort of broke the moment when she ripped into the Queen song as everyone was cheering. It seemed like the audience didn’t know how to respond to it since it was such a radical departure from the previous song and the concert itself. Some stood awkwardly, while others sat back down and didn’t repeat the standing ovation when the song was over.
Curt Rosevear Ken, agree with everything you said regarding the sound issues. As far as the second set, Jorn, Devin and Leon (piano, drums and bass) had played all of that before at Feinstein's in April; also, Jorn and Leon arranged and/or recorded the tracks on the album, so they would have been familiar with most of the selections. A few of the selections in the first set were also included in the Feinstein's show but, for the most part, it was the first time the first set was performed. I thought the placement of OMBC/ND in the second set was odd and would have fit better in the first set with other songs from Jackie's past.
Brian P. Foflygen Sr. I was there as well and concur with Ken C Varn. In addition, the two orbiting spotlights were repeatedly blinding us in the balcony, and very distracting. I wrote a short review on my own page.

So weren't new hires, Jackie's Concert Director and Music Director, supposed to be sure sound issues were optimum beforehand?? Or does she have to hire a Sound Engineer, too??

As far as I know she's always had a sound guy, she used to thank him for making her sound good.

Well who knows, due to budget cuts she might not have one anymore. I remember a video where Mike was telling Jackie that they needed to work on the mic but she said that she didn't have time, putting on her makeup was more important. Geez, I hope he's not taken on the job because he's too cheap to hire someone. Yikes! 😳

Jackie thanked her sound engineer toward the end of the show. Sorry, I didn't catch the name. Ken's criticisms are quite accurate.

I have noticed at the past few concerts that I have attended "Will" has replaced Paul Acosta (sp?) as the "Sound Guy" and there have been more issues with the sound reinforcement. Feedback, especially through the monitors, excessively loud backing tracks, and generally unbalanced mixes. I am not sure exactly when Paul stopped traveling with Jackie, but I have to agree with Ken based on my recent experience from Easton PA (Nov 17) or possibly before that through Morristown in February.

Ken and all, thanks for the feedback (no pun intended) about the new concert format. Since this is a completely new show, with a new crew, I'm willing to ascribe this to growing pains, as long as the sound quality issues eventually subside. Time will tell.
