What I find interesting about this location and date is its proximity to Palm Springs. Palm Springs is where Sonny Bono was elected mayor. You know, of Sonny & Cher. They also hold one of the best film festivals (Palm Springs International Film Festival). Sonny Bono promoted it and got it placed on the map as one of the film festivals to attend. They show a majority of the foreign film Oscar nominees. About 135,000 people go each year. The Hollywood elite show up, especially for the Awards ceremony. This year it is being held January 4th to the 14th. So Jackie's concert is right in the middle. So, I wonder if Jackie's concert is getting the benefit of having a ton of people hanging out in Palm Springs and deciding to go to Palm Desert for a concert. Given the foreign flavor to the film festival, a lot of the movie buffs should also appreciate Jackie. I believe the Film Awards Gala tickets go on sale August 1st at 9 am. This is where one can rub elbows with some Hollywood stars. Of course it is not cheap to go. A General Admission ticket is $350 ($260 of which is tax deductible). Black-tie. But, given who you may meet, $350 is not such a bad deal. Palm Springs International Film Festival |

Piece of trivia: I have no idea if they've stayed in touch at all, but Jackie's former conductor, John Mario di Costanzo, is about 80 miles west of Palm Desert, in Murrieta, CA, and has studios in Murrieta and Temecula, and conducts a couple of local orchestras (Temecula Valley and Coachella Valley).
