It may prove fairly conclusively who remains a fan when Jackie's album of originals is released. Indications are that it will be an Alternative Pop album, if "Behind My Eyes" is representative. Apparently Jackie has lost another fan on this forum. Oct. 2, 2022 "I would not nor will I pay one dime either to buy Jackie's latest album or see her in concert at this point in her career. What I'm seeing and hearing is not the Jackie that inspired me to become her fan for the past 8 years. Her covers of Joni Mitchell songs are forgettable....." -jcas Sept 5, 2023 ".... who wants to "listen" to a musically articulated litany of wrongs and woes that supposedly caused whatever mental illness she claims to be suffering?"....." A true entertainer is able to succeed in helping me take my mind off my troubles. Imho, that's where Jackie once succeeded brilliantly and for most of her amazingly 13 year long career as one. I hope she someday realizes that and gets back to it. She'll succeed again at what she's most gifted with if and when she does." -jcas Farewell, jcas. Jackie has begun "my musical transformation era", one of personally meaningful songwriting. www.instagram.com/reel/Cw0gfPKr8r1/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=864cd6c8-aeac-4579-89b8-92ccdc827c40One of the many positive comments: "I'm excited for it Jackie! I will be paying extra attention to your lyrics. Don't be scared...you are loved and supported. I'm so proud of you for putting yourself out there like this. It really is a brave thing to do, you know? It will also be therapeutic for you I think. It's going to be a fun (and enlightening) journey for everyone, and I for one am looking forward to being able to connect with you on a more personal level. You are doing GREAT!!!!"

Jackie once sang and interpreted in the most beautifully timeless fashion this music lover had ever heard from an adult or child, songs of timeless beauty. I remain a fan who is hopeful Jackie, with maturity, will someday return to sing many of the thousands of great songs available to her that are deserving and yet to be sung by one of the world's greatest singers of all time.

I don't believe Jackie will ever return to recording albums in the classical crossover genre. It's been apparent for some time that she is trying to move past what has been a mentally stressful and secretly painful experience associated with the history of her career as a cc artist. She is ill as a consequence of being demanded upon to be "perfect", being told what to do, how to behave, etc., and as she said, the perfectionism she has imposed upon herself trying to measure up to an unrealistic ideal, and to please those in charge. "Get Out of My Life" couldn't be more plain in sending a message that she wants nothing more to do with those associated with it. And, you recall that, after taking command and becoming an independent artist, she said, following the release of The Debut:
"It can be frustrating when you devote yourself to making quality music that can reach a younger audience. It's hard when they're not listening. And, it's hard to figure out how to make them listen. So, honestly, I just decided that I'm going to do whatever my heart tells me to do artistically. Whoever jumps on the bandwagon will jump on the bandwagon."
She has not recorded classical crossover songs since.
Evident in the fan-made video below is the kind of music she has been particularly inspired to share spontaneously, naturally and emotionally, raw and up close from her home where she feels totally free. Also, watch her video that follows speaking of her "musical influences" at present.
I think some fans don't fully appreciate the seriousness of Jackie's suffering the past few years, that she just wants to be herself, to do what she is freely compelled to do, and for her own reasons without being responsible to anyone but those helping her achieve her personal goals. Just recently she said in interview, "I want to take my power back". She is exercising her freedom and taking her power back through songwriting, something she said just two days ago, "I've wanted to do as long as I can remember". It is her own personal endeavor, pursued in her own way, all be it of course in collaboration with her producer, songwriter and music composer for film, Greg Camp, who obviously supports her intentions. She is not likely to give that up soon, if ever, and less likely to return to recording in the classical crossover genre, though I expect she will continue performing her cc repertoire in concert while promoting her album of originals. She has embarked on a new journey into "my musical transformation era". So, if you want to hear the music that attracted you to the young Jackie, attend a concert if you can, because that may be your only opportunity outside of listening to past albums or watching videos.
It's unfortunate that she will lose fans who are unwilling to accept this transformation, because she is still every bit the supreme vocalist she has been, which I believe will be apparent in her original songs.

If you're looking for showcase vocals from Jackie, her original music is not for you. It is not intended to be. Jackie has something very meaningful to say through her music, with a message to those who suffer mental illness and/or other struggles, as she does, that they are not alone. Not only are her lyrics personally and universally meaningful, but in my opinion, her alternative pop voice is perfectly suited to the theme of her intention, at least that of her new album coming out in 2024.
Sean Daly commented on the Live Performance video of "Behind My Eyes" that he heard one of Jackie's other originals, "Broken Things" during a Hong Kong interview, no link given....."another hit" he said. We've heard her demo of "Get Out of My Life" on Instagram, and also an experimental performance of "Smoking Gun" while on the City Winery tour. One other song remains, titled "Consequences". I don't think the upcoming album will demonstrate anything significantly different except that Greg Camp has provided his professional arrangements and instrumentation. There is no doubt about Jackie's intention as a songwriter/composer.
This truly is the beginning of "my musical transformation era" for Jackie. I hope members are prepared to accept that and appreciate what she is offering as an honest and courageous songwriter. I'm certain she won't be writing/composing songs in the classical crossover genre, though she'll continue performing her covers in concert. Jackie is no less the vocal artist she has been the past 5 years, and the clarity and beauty of her voice remains, though she has altered her style to suit the kind of music she is writing. You recall she altered her style for Carousel of Time in keeping with the story-telling character of Joni Mitchell's music....as she had previously for many other songs in her vast repertoire. That is the "genius" of Jackie versatility.
As more who seem attached to the CC cover artist seem to be vanishing from this forum if not simply disengaged from what little discussion there is, this forum is diminishing significantly. There certainly is no interest demonstrated by its "leader"/admin, much less any motivation from him. It can't be blamed on Jackie, because her music is being very well received on YouTube and social media. In my view, if we want to represent Jackie with positivity and support her songwriting venture, there needs to be a revitalization here, which must come from members taking a more active interest, with greater participation. This could be the beginning of a "transformation era" for this forum as well, or it's demise.
A comment about Jackie's live performance regarding it's simplicity with acoustic guitar accompaniment: " I love the original version for the beat, the bass and the cool harmonies. It makes me want to go to a club and dance 👍👌👏, but this version hits me almost like a physical feeling right inside of my heart."

I'm not one to gush nor pretend to thoughtful analyses of songs. I like the new material fine, though it's not what brought me, and even if I think I might like something else better (like dramatic ballad songs, maybe; or some folk, but not the 60's version of folk - Woody, not Arlo, more either traditional or Celtic; or more CC - there is relatively modern CC, but it is harder to write and esp. to arrange...and to sell). I like skillful sound (but with an either entertaining or honest message) more than hooks and formulas and numbers and wealth (although one needs some of the latter two to sustain a career).
Jackie is still Jackie. And singing something revealing from time to time should be welcome, not unwelcome.
An EP of therapeutic self-expression is fine, and in a way, a logical place to start writing (it is often said, "write about what you know"). jcas seemed to think that a performer should be therapeutic for the listener rather than vice versa, but as long as it's not a permanent "all about me" mindset (which would eventually appear narcissistic, even if it wasn't), I think that can go both ways occasionally, not to mention that there are always others with similar problems that relate. An EP is not excessive.

It looks like Jackie is trying to build a new fanbase in a completely different music genre.
This new fanbase would be built on top of how many fans will remain from her old fanbase that is an unknown number. There are ways to try to garner an inkling of the size of this remaining fanbase, but I doubt any attempt to do so will be made.
Effectively building a new fanbase is not a trivial task to do.
Off the top of my head, I cannot think of anyone who was all that successful completely changing from their original music genre unless they were fortunate to create a hit song.
Jackie does have some recognizability from her past success that is an advantage in that she will not be starting from ground zero.
However, it is a dog-eat-dog world in music where thousands upon thousands of artists are trying to carve up a limited dollar pool of money. The list of artists that are pretty decent but never really make it is pretty large. Occasionally an artist will gain sustained success after being on one of the talent shows such as America's Got Talent, American Idol, The X Factor, The Voice, and a myriad of other talent shows around the world. Among the most successful singers include Adam Lambert, One Direction and Harry Styles after he left the boy band, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, and Carrie Underwood, among others.
Whether Jackie will succeed with her new music venture is far from clear.
I personally like Behind My Eyes (although I disagree with how it is being promoted) and Get Out Of My Life (has been posted but not really promoted). I have my thoughts as to where to promote the latter song, but that is just my beliefs, and I am about as far from being an advisor of Jackie's as one could be.
Jackie also wrote a Christmas song that was OK, At Least I’ll Have Santa, but no real efforts have occurred to promote it given its late publishing on December 23, 2022. In its posting, Jackie said her intention was to record it for the 2023 Holiday season. However, unless something is being worked upon now, it looks unlikely anything will happen this year, if ever, with this Christmas song.

geb: Monetary success and building a "new" fan base doesn't appear to be Jackie's objective with her songwriting. She has said repeatedly that it is a "therapeutic endeavor". Moreover, she speaks about her hope that others who suffer mental illness will relate to her music and not feel they are alone in their own experience....."sharing a lot of very personal stuff about me that you probably didn't know, things I've experienced throughout my life, lessons I've learned; and that's kinda scary telling somebody your entire truth, which is what I plan to do with my music and have already begun to do." Her interest is not necessarily a presumed effort to build a new fan base, particularly by changing music genre. She has said that alt-pop happens to suit the character of the music she is writing, not a purposefully sought-out genre to gain new fans. She explained further in her interview on Radio 3 The Brew, broadcast in NYC from Hong Kong, that she and her producer where not trying to achieve anything in particular, rather BME just came out that way as things progressed, as with the "Broken Things" as well.
The vast majority of comments on her videos are written by those of her present fanbase, that being her primary target, expressing their appreciation of what she is offering. Behind My Eyes is being very well received by them, expressing their appreciation and encouragement of her venture into writing and composing original songs that reveal her personal experience, and the hope that it helps in her recovery. And, she has even replied to many comments, which is almost unheard of from her on YouTube, indicating that she is pleased that her message has been effective.
With regard to "At Least I'll Have Santa", she said at the time she posted her demo, she will record and release a single "for the holiday season" of 2023. So, look for a video to be posted soon. I expect she will perform it in her Christmas concert on Dec. 2nd
I think you are more concerned, even critical of Jackie's lack of promotional effort and investment in future success, than she is. I don't think she cares to compete with others in the "dog-eat-dog world of music". She is simply offering something, at least for the present, that is very personal and hopefully relatable, with her upcoming EP.

Well, if money is not made, then Jackie will have a pretty tough time living, and doing what she said she wants to do. And any money Jackie has managed to save from her prior endeavors will not necessarily last forever and can run out if she constantly has to tap into it to pursue what she wants to do.
And Melody Place is not a charity, so Jackie has to generate some money for them or else they will not be able to support her future endeavors.
The Behind My Eyes videos released a month ago on YouTube have about 92K views. That really is not very good and will not generate much in streaming revenues.
Jackie does not appear to be one to do wasteful spending and may be making enough money from the few concerts she is doing and from the streaming and on-going sales of her existing works to live reasonably comfortable. I certainly hope so.
Jackie's album Heavenly Christmas was released on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, with presales at least a week before then. This is a typical time when Christmas albums/songs will get released. In other words, it is now a little over 3 weeks until the Christmas song season begins. Ergo, Jackie's Christmas song At Least I'll Have Santa will have to be finished being recorded within the next week or so in order to slot it into the Christmas song selling season and to try to promote it as a desired new Christmas song. Anything less than this is a half-hearted effort.
Where Jackie wants to make her living and career in the music business, she has no other choice but to understand that it is a dog-eat-dog business and in order to survive, she has to do some battling, especially when she is out singing, and thus, promoting her new music. I am sure she realizes this. She just got upset at what she had been being told she had to do in order to succeed, and this ended up being codified in the good song, in my opinion, Get Out Of My Life.
As a side note, lots of artists have written material that is highly personal and then released it to the public. A fine example is Eric Clapton. On March 20, 1991, Eric's 4-year-old son Conor, died after falling from the 53rd-floor window of a New York City apartment. Eric was understandably devastated and took some time off. He came back by writing music for the movie Rush, including Tears In Heaven that was part of the soundtrack. In January 1992, Eric first performed the song live and it was later included in his Unplugged album that was released later that year. The song became Eric's best-selling single, peaking at #2 on the Billboard charts. The song won three Grammy Awards and later Rolling Stone had Tears in Heaven on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The bottom line is just because Jackie is writing songs of a personal nature, does not mean she would not like to see them be very successful in the marketplace. Actually, many songs that are written are of some personal nature to the songwriter.

Actually, many songs that are written are of some personal nature to the songwriter. Of course she would like to see her songs be very successful, but I don't think she's depending it. Naturally there's a risk inherent in a change of direction and purpose, and it's one she's willing to take. Because, this is not something she's doing out of financial need, rather something she has wanted do "for as long as I can remember", she said. And, at this point in her life, songwriting is an essential part of her therapy and healing from past trauma and associated mental illness, plus a "host of other issues", as she put it. She has spoken of that often. She was possibly encouraged to indulge in this "therapeutic endeavor" in her better interest. Songwriting, at least for the present, is something she needs to do for herself psychologically and emotionally, whether her EP is "successful" or not. Obviously, Melody Place, having invested in Carousel of Time which was not what you would consider a successful album, has established Jackie a valued member of it's artist roster, and apparently has some degree of confidence in this project. Let's see how things develop next year.

Some childish and ignorant classical fans put Jackie down because they disapprove of her having incorporated other genres into her repertoire the past 8 years, claiming she left Classical Crossover and that her music hasn't been worth listening to. Their disparaging comments are posted on her YouTube videos. Apparently they don't know what "classical crossover" means and what it encompasses. Nevertheless, they won't tolerate her singing anything but what they call "classical" songs, saying "her voice isn't what it used to be", "She sounds like any ordinary pop singer",.... iterating such nonsense in protest. I respect their preferences, but not their public denigration.
Not withstanding that her voice inevitably changed somewhat since her childhood, it's just as pure and beautiful as ever regardless of what genre she is singing. Her interpretations in different genres are brilliant and convincing. She sings with exceptional finesse, demonstrating power when she chooses or lyrical softness when a phrase calls for it in her perception. She has an impressive, clear upper range and a beautiful lower register with a warm soothing timbre, all of which she can adapt appropriately to any genre that inspires her. Her versatility as a vocalist is unequaled by any young sopranos of this century, in my estimation. She is not just a singer, but a true artist.
Her original songs are deeply personal, honest and courageous, not intended to showcase her classical voice. and should not be expected to. Rather, they are a message of suffering that she hopes others will relate to in their private struggles and know they are not alone, and sung in her own genuine style. Her songs are in the alternative pop genre because, as she said, That's just the way I write". They should be appreciated for their intent and not disparaged because they don't fit one's expectations of her as a singer of classical music.
Most important is that writing, composing and producing her own music is something she has, in her words, "wanted to do for as long as I can remember"....."In the future, the majority of music you hear from me will be mine, because that's where the true passion is for me". As a minor in the music business, creative, knowledgeable, adept and intuitive, she was denied creative input, her ideas ignored and having no say about how her music was produced, thus having to sing what she was told to sing, and to sing the way she was told to sing. She was frustrated with limitations and demands, particularly with unreasonable expectations of other's ideas of "perfection". Now, as an independent ARTIST, having complete command of her career and control of her music, she can finally make the music SHE wants to make and for her own purposes, music that is personal and relatable; all be it her songwriting inspired by Joni Mitchell's work, but uniquely her own.
Fortunately and wisely, Jackie said that, as one of her New Year resolutions, "I won't listen to unconstructive criticism". Furthermore, she will sing what she wants to sing, the way she want's to sing and for whatever reason she chooses the music she records and performs. If one will not accept and appreciate that and respect her aspirations and goals, they should simply move on to some other singer. As she wrote in her lyrics, "Shut up and get out of my life". She won't conduct her career in accordance with anyone's expectations. 4 years ago, she asked her fans to "grow with me, not against me", yet a number of die-hard classical buffs have simply chosen to go against her publicly with disparaging comments and often insulting expressions of their disapproval of her music. She never left classical crossover, rather she said recently, "Classical will always have my heart, I will always sing classical crossover" as she does presently. So, why make a stink about the music she wants to explore, and particularly what she writes for her own satisfaction and healing, and for the benefit of others as well? Her concert repertoire has broad appeal providing something for everyone from opera to alt-pop. But, the classical crowd of selfish hypocrites won't go to her concerts. They'd rather leave disparaging comments on her YouTube videos.

ME! MYSELF! and "I" Been away long time, since the original pro-boards fan page was killed by Lisa E. "Ghost browser" here for a few years, but I decided to make myself public again. Never stopped supporting Jackie. Still very much enjoy her singing. Kinda -edited- that I need to join AMAZON to purchase her CD's I don't do "digital downloads," etc. I want the physical thing in my hand, else I don't really own it.

One individual had a conniption fit because I compared Jackie's present singing style to that of Amy Winehouse and Julie London. This person was apoplectic for my comparing Jackie to Amy, totally missing, or else purposely ignoring, the point that I was making regarding a comparison to the emotional form - not the lifestyle.
And then there are those individuals who dislike Jackie's pop singing because she no longer has the voice of their little "angel" of 14 years' past. I do not understand what motivates these people to make such absurd statements, comparing a 10 year-old girl to a 24 year-old woman. They seem to live in a fantasy world, of their own creation, disconnected from reality.
Unfortunately, I have not been to a Jackie concert since her Colorado Springs performance at the Pike's Peak Complex in February 2020. Waiting on her to come to the Denver CO or Lincoln NE area. I can no longer afford the long jaunts to far away venues.

I don't understand people who don't like Jackie anymore and yet they stick around just to bash her. That doesn't make sense to me. People must be really miserable in life, if they don't have anything better to do than to bash a singer that they don't like. If they don't like Jackie, than just move on from her, but they aren't smart enough to figure that out. In the video that follows, posted in August, 2022, Jackie spoke briefly to her being chained down by her childhood image. By that time, she had already put that image behind her with her performances on The Masked Singer by showing "another side of myself", at least to her satisfaction. Soon after, she had begun writing and composing her own music. Consequences had been written during the early stages of the Covid quarantine in 2020, Behind My Eyes during her absence from the public in 2021, and her demo of Get Out of My Life had been recorded in a hotel room apparently while in Nashville for songwriting sessions in 2022. It became apparent she had determined long before Aug, 2022 that she would henceforth present herself the adult singer/songwriter. Everything she has said and done since has been a confirmation that she had begun her "musical transformation era" in pursuit of her songwriting aspirations on a path toward becoming "what I was meant to be...to me", as she said in her TMS interview. She also said in that interview that "As I get older I realize that authenticity is the best way to go through life". We know from what she said in her announcement of Get Out of My Life that her childhood experience as a recording artist and performer was wrought with frustrations and anxieties trying to live up to unrealistic expectations that she be "perfect" in every way, thus leading to her developing an eating disorder by age 14/15. Furthermore, "Pedestal" had been a protest against being idolized unrealistically. Jackie revealed in her TMS interview that she had been playing a role expected of her, that it was "tiring and almost painful to carry around my old self all the time when there was so much more there". Despite all the evidence apparent since May of 2020 that Jackie has embarked on a different path, a path toward being her authentic self musically, some persistent protesters still don't get the message, or they've chosen to ignore it. There is no cause for any of the disgruntled classical crossover snobs who have been aware to discredit or disparage her as having "betrayed" them, as some claim, by embarking on this songwriting journey or even having ventured into multiple genres, particularly pop. After all, she has recorded pop songs on her albums since she was 10 years old. But, that seems to have escaped their attention or memories....."Angel", one the most praised and viewed performances on DWM in concert, is a pop song. So is "Somewhere", When You Wish Upon a Star"; and "The Prayer" is operatic pop. Never mind the popular songs on SFTSS and others on subsequent albums. These dummies don't realize that the classical crossover genre consists of pop songs sung by classical artists. It's infatuation with the childhood voice they expect from her that compels their disdain, saying "she sounds like any other pop singer now", "her voice has changed.", "she's going in the wrong direction musically.", etc. In my opinion, she sounds better than an ordinary pop singer and far better than she did as a child singing pop. Singing in genres other than classical hasn't made her voice any different. And the "right direction" is the one they demand, not what she wants. She is doing now what is and always has been most meaningful to her, having been stifled and ignored for the many years she was demanded and expected to be the classical crossover "princess". Those who can't let go of the princess are now disparaging her publicly because they have an inexplicable and peculiar mentality that has turned them into common trolls seeking "likes" on their comments. For example, there are presently 21 "likes" on rickallanolsen's comment on Smoking Gun..... "I've seen Jackie live 4 times. Don't get me wrong, but her Classical Crossover and her voice were so much better way back when. Her voice was unique, but for a long time she's sounded like just any other pop singer. She'll never equal Dream With Me when she was 11 again." So, Jackie has a whole new group of haters now, those who's praises had been called "OTT" in the past are suddenly turning against her, either posting similar comments on her videos or liking those posted by others. I wonder what would be revealed if the "dislike" function on YouTube was active. Here's what she says in response to the question, "Do you ever wish you could get away from your childhood image?": @1:32

I fully agree with Lawrence's above statement - and I will add my own opinion:
Those individuals temperamentally attached solely to the "DWM Jackie" need to come to terms with reality. If that time period and vocal style is all you care to know and hear of Jackie, then by all means continue to keep DWM, MOTM, Awakening, etc on continuous replay to your heart's content: "It's your thing - Do what'cha wanna do." We enjoy listening to those wonderful creations as much as do you. It's about personal tastes - and no one is going to disparage your preference.
However, in regards to Jackie's vocal style and song choices, we respectfully request that these "disappointed" individuals respect those who hold different or expanded musical tastes. That respect entails quitting the nonconstructive disparaging remarks about Jackie's musical genre and vocal preferences; because the rest of us, who have continued to follow and accept Jackie and her chosen career path, do not care to read or listen to what has unfortunately devolved from occasional disagreements into an escalation of irrational personal attacks on Jackie.
