Until "Prometheus had finally broken his chains"..."stolen beauty from the Gods and poured it all on the little soul from Pittsburg"... and I heard that "splendid voice of the spheres", this is how I preferred to hear Nessun Dorma. Listening to this arrangement again, I find several things that, quite frankly, annoy me; 1) The screaming high register violins throughout the piece. My ears hurt from all that top-octave sawing away. 2) The repetitive trombone/baritone/French Horn response to the violins. Could he not vary the refrains just a LITTLE bit?? I mean THREE TIMES!! Sheesh. And #3) The TOTALLY underwhelming ending. Nessun Dorma is supposed to go out with a bang(like Jackie)not a whimper(like this orchestra).

So, it took a second time for you to be annoyed...picky, picky, picky Jk. Well, it's better than that "controlled yelling" I heard before Jackie made Nessun Dorma beautiful. I agree with you about the "whimper". Jackie turned a single bang into a double whammy like no other has, or will for that matter. Our little adventurer succeeded in changing a tradition just for us common folks (with a little help from DF, of course). Ya gotta love her courage. She wasn't particularly loved for that by the high-brows.

I may have put this on the forum somewhere in the past, but David Phelps does a nice tenor version of ND. He has a softer interpretation like Jackie has, he does not do the 4th Vincero though. Kinda leave you hanging! Some of his other songs have NO lack of power.

Ennio Morricone in concert at Verona, Italy conducting the orchestra in Once Upon A Time In the West featuring the highly acclaimed Swedish-born Italian singer/soprano, Susanna Rigacci. This master work builds through to a powerful crescendo. The genius of Ennio Morricone

I enjoy a masterful power singer. But more often now I prefer a voice with a delicate touch that comforts and a softness that soothes in the twilight of a busy day. Of course, Jackie is unique. There's no one who mesmerizes me as she does and holds my attention as she can for hours.
Katie Melua is one of the best-selling artists in the U.K., born 1984, Kutaisi, Republic of Georgia. These are two of her relaxing renditions.
