(7) Augusts ago, my wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary by enjoying a dinner cruise up nearly the length of Lake Chautauqua, New York from Jamestown, NY to see and hear Jackie perform at the iconic Chautauqua Insitution. It was the next to her last stop on a (3) gig tour that included performances at Portsmouth, NH August 6; Chautauqua, August 8, and Lancaster/Strasburg, PA, August 10. It was also the next to last time she would sing her "Songs From the Silver Screen" in concert. The capacity of the Chautauqua's concert pavilion is 4,400 seats. Not one was empty and hundreds of eaves droppers lined its outer perimeter to hear her. Nearly every song she sang deserved and received a standing ovation from most everyone in that huge and beguiled audience. It was, indeed, "Some Enchanted Evening". I've attended many concerts during the length of my 78 years that included many iconic, famous performers. None gripped me like Jackie's performance that night. Besides "the voice", several things left me in awe of her. That this tiny, 14 year old entertainer could so quickly and flawlessly merge her act with a full orchestra after only one rehearsal earlier that same day following a long road trip in an RV from Portsmouth, NH. She would do it again just 2 days later at Strasburg, PA. Also, she lost focus for a second, and the lyric to Some Enchanted Evening. Yet after whispering an "I'm sorry" to her audience, never missed a beat with an orchestra she'd never sung with before, finishing the song to a standing ovation ... like it never even happened. I don't know how she gets back to what that time was in her career or forward to someplace even better. Better management and marketing? Dynamically new material? More of her own material? Has aging cost her too many assets including native confidence to revive a career that has doubtlessly and sadly been on the descent for several years? I am thankful to have seen and heard her at her best one enchanted evening; one of 4400 strangers she reached ..... across a big, crowded, applause filled room. How did she do it then? Why can't she do it like that now? "Who can explain it? Who can tell you why. Fools give you reasons. Wise men, never try.". chqdaily.wordpress.com/2014/08/07/soprano-sensation-jackie-evancho-to-sing-tonight/

The picture belongs to the pictures of the holiday with family and fishing. There are a few of them.

This video needs to be canned in a Titanium container and sealed in a safe place so that long after we're gone, the world can enjoy the pure beauty of a healthy Jackie and her brother Jacob, without all the associated history!!
We know what the future holds for these two, those in the future will have forgotten!

Years ago I made a video composed of clips from home movies my dad took of our family and friends in the 1950s at Christmas time. I soundtracked it with Jackie's, White Christmas, as she performed it on her Heavenly Christmas album. The movie opens with us romping in very deep, freshly fallen Michigan powder that blanketed our yard the night before. Huge pines, their "treetops glistening", frame the scene. Our sleigh ride in the country that inspired a curious horse to trot alongside us as we glided along a snow covered lane. Us kids hanging our stockings on our fireplace's mantle, "with great care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there". My mom addressing Christmas cards as Jackie coincidentally croons "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas, with every Christmas card I write". Yes, Jackie fans, there really was such a thing as a White Christmas, and Jackie as an 11 year old kid, knew it and how to tell us about it like no one else. I wish there was someway I could play it for you as it's more than a memory of my family's experience with it, but how all of us love to remember, ...... or maybe "dream" about it.
