At one point in the video, "Making Dream With Me", David Foster had said about Jackie, 11 years old at the time, "I'm quite positive, she could be a writer, because anybody this talented, it would just make sense.....". At another point in the video he said to Jackie, "Someday you'll produce yourself".
In an interview a year ago on Yahoo Entertainment, Lindsey Parker asked, "What else is on your bucket list?" Jackie responded, "I would love to release an album of all of my original material and compose it, produce it all by myself, which I have to do a lot of classes to do that, but I'm on my way".
What skills does a music producer need?
"Professional music production is creative and technical. It requires well-developed listening skills, a good handle on recording technology, a deep musical knowledge, and effective project management and leadership skills."
I think that eventually Jackie will indeed produce her own music solely by herself. She's been gradually gaining an awareness of the processes of studio production since working with her mentor, David Foster, in his private recording studio. Through the years, she has worked with different producers, studio technicians, session musicians and other experienced professionals. She is a quick study, and I imagine she has become quite knowledgeable in 13 years, at least having a basic understanding of production processes. With regard to management and leadership skills, professionals have often expressed that Jackie is "easy and enjoyable to work with", and in recent years she has developed the assertiveness to demand what she wants, in a characteristically amiable manner of course. So, I think she'll naturally have the respectful cooperation of professionals she will have to depend upon in bringing a project to fruition.
According to David Foster, Jackie has an exceptional innate understanding of music structure. Furthermore, in as much as she is untrained as a vocalist/musician, her prodigious innate awareness of timing, rhythm, orchestration and harmonization are valuable assets as well. Her vocal harmony overlays have been quite impressive, which I believe have been her personal input on her singles and albums, evident even in her demo recordings on GarageBand....Get Out of My Life and At Least I Have Santa.
Her associations in Nashville have probably provided an impressive list of studio musicians she can call upon. Apparently she has met and worked with several songwriters in the course of her study there, through whom she was introduced to Greg Camp, they having struck up an "unlikely" partnership that, according to statements from Jackie and Greg, has proven to work well for both of them. Greg seems to have invested himself in her ambition with an interest in helping her learn the art of arranging, recognizing that she has the talent, the vision, creativity and listening skills necessary to produce a potentially beautiful product on her own. Btw, I think he is the first producer since David Foster to have personally accompanied Jackie in a live performance....playing acoustic guitar for Behind My Eyes at The Bowery Vault in East Nashville.
By partnering with producer/songwriter/musician/film composer Greg Camp on the current project, Jackie has succeeded in writing and composing her own music (5 songs), and co-producing it as well. She is determined that songwriting is her future. So, I expect her aspiration will manifest in the not too distant future.
