FYI, the Corps of Engineers is releasing water into Buffalo Bayou from two large reservoirs starting tomorrow morning. This is the first time in the history of Houston that both reservoirs have been released into water ways that are already flooding. The reason is that the amount of water in the reservoirs could cause the dams to collapse, which would be catastrophic.
Buffalo Bayou passes through the middle of downtown Houston and empties into the ship channel, which then flows into Galveston Bay.
People living near the reservoirs have been asked to evacuate as they are close to going over their banks. The amount of water released will not be as much as is currently causing the reservoirs to rise.

Houston is huge. The greater metropolitan area is circled by the Grand Parkway - which is 170 miles long. That makes the area of the circle inside the Grand Parkway over 2200 square miles. 2200 square miles of densely inhabited urban and suburban areas are flooded. Imagine if the entire state of Delaware, with twice the population of Manhattan, was under water.
That's Houston.
It's still raining.

As Sgt Friday used to say 'Dragnet' change the name to protect the innocent. Use the Head of FEMI. gittefalkenberg.wordpress.com/2010/03/18/i-sent-you-two-boats-and-a-helicopter/

I'm sorry. I posted FB pages without reading all the way through. There were several 'naughty' words. So deleted.
