Very cool.
I believe Glenn Campbell did a lot of studio work as well.

Very cool. I believe Glenn Campbell did a lot of studio work as well. Why are you ribbing me? CL and I have been nice to you. Not just the Grace thing, but now you pickin' on my homeboy Glen. I just talked to my sister, her husband grew up next to Glen and the town would gather every Saturday for a singing. The Campbell's all could play and sing. Yes he played studio work to be noticed and he was. Then TV specials, movies, tons of great song. And you put him in the 'Unknown' category. You wouldn't have brought him up if was actually 'Unknown'. Peace out.

All I know is when I checked the duty roster, it was my turn to poke the bear.
Just following orders here.
Really.
Ok, not really. No disrespect meant to Glenn, just remembering a story I was told that he was a very in-demand studio musician back in the day.

Glen and Carol probably worked a lot together. It is well known that Glen played guitar and sang backing vocals on The Beach Boys Pet Sounds album. On the song Good Vibrations, none of the Beach Boys played instruments. I found this about it: "About 90 hours of studio time and 70 hours of tape were used, and at least 12 musicians played on the sessions. It's hard to know whose performances ended up on the record, but some of the musicians involved were Glen Campbell (lead guitar), Hal Blaine (drums), Larry Knechtel (organ) and Al de Lory (piano)... Brian brought in Carol Kaye to play bass guitar and Lyle Ritz to play upright bass on these sessions. Kaye recalls, "He did the very first take on that with Ray Pohlman at Goldstar and scrapped that. And the other 12 dates I'm playing on - that's 36 hours - he did not change that bass part all during that time. He changed all the rest of the music, he didn't change the bass part. This is what he wrote. It was both bass players at that point - I'm playing the upper part and Lyle's playing the lower part. If you listen to jazz, that's the feel that he wrote." www.toptenz.net/top-10-session-musicians-and-studio-bands.php (Carol is No. 5 and Glen is mentioned in No. 3 under The Wrecking Crew.

Carol's interview reminds me of the women of WWII. Tough with no need for attention. Hey btv I bet she could take you.
Glen even filled in for Brian to sing (falcetto part) when he 'didn't feel well.' Like she said, who knew what they were doing would one day become classics.

It was probably around this time they started to realize Glen had such an exceptional voice and set him up with those Jimmy Webb numbers that established his solo career. Other session musicians not on that list who went on to do well in their own right are Willy Nelson and Leon Russell.

Here is Glen playing the lead intro and breaks on The Monkees' "I'm A Believer". Notice they got him to wear the same colour shirt as the band. They just don't show his face.
