There are two performances that I am aware of that Jackie did not get the treatment she rightly deserves.
1. She was invited to sing for the Pope and ended up as a fill-in act when the Pope was not even there to see or hear her performance. She sang beautifully with an empty stage and a mingling audience. An absolute thrill to see her give her all when we know she had to be dissappointed at the expectation vs reality. Bravo Jackie!!!
2. She was invited to sing the National Anthem at President Trump's inaguration and was seated at the far end of the dias for two hours and fifteen minutes in the cold before she performed to perfection in spite of being sick for two days. Very shabby treatment for the only "A" list performer at this event. Bravo Jackie!
Both of these events were very important and she should have been treated as the star she is. IMHO!!!

As far as the inauguration goes, although it was a rather uncomfortable ordeal Jackie wasn't treated any differently than anyone else on the platform and even had her *own* Marine umbrella bearer. I'd possibly put forward as another example her two concerts with Tony Bennett (one of which I attended), not that he did anything wrong, but she was in the familiar show business position of "opening" for him and not really an equal partner. At Ironstone it was obvious that few of the audience had any idea who she was and when her part ended she only joined him onstage for a single duet.

You are absolutely correct but after she performed a lot more people knew who she was.

I was dumbfounded when they did not choose Jackie to sing Pi Jesu for His Holiness, and instead served her up with the hors d'oeuvres. Nothing against the youngster they did choose; it was his big moment and good luck to him. But that they chose not to have the most angelic voice that has ever sung that sublime song has me still shaking my head.

Much more annoying and incomprehensible than HIM was the atrocious display (I can't really call it a performance) by over-the-hill Aretha Franklin - Pope Francis looked dumbfounded; how much better and more appropriate Jackie would have been than that travesty!

I guess Aretha got the gig because she is a "soul" singer. But then, Jackie has been described as "transcendental".
