Jackie was "live-tweeting" during the show also. You can click on the date on each of her comments to put each comment in the context of fan questions or replies. Don twitter.com/jackieevancho

That really is unfortunate that you got so little from the show. For me it was very insightful and by the end I feel I correctly realized that this show was about the effects upon the Evancho family by Jackie singing the Anthem, Jackie's principles and relationship with Juliet about LGBTQ and her career and how the two sisters have been drawn into a political nightmare. But central to the entire show was how LGBTQ and career affects each member of the Evancho family. One heck of a strong family even with having disagreements within the family. But the magnitude of the issues far surpasses anything any of us have ever faced or likely to face. A family worth knowing if only we had the chance. What issues? The issue is self created. Juliet could shut up about being transgender and try to pass as a real woman. She won't because transgender is her only avenue to fame and she craves that. Jackie could shut up about it, stop letting Juliet use her, and get on with her singing career. She won't because when it comes to Juliet she is a wimp because she has let Juliet lay a huge guilt trip on her. The other four aren't affected at all unless they choose to be affected. Neither Jackie, nor Juliet, nor anyone else wanting to help other teens understand that they are not alone, that there are others like them, and many others who are there to offer support and help to them. By speaking out they are keeping some teens from suicide, and helping many others so they DO NOT NEED TO SHUT UP. If you disagree with them, fine. If you want to state your opinions on the issue fine, BUT you do not have the right to attack them, nor to tell them to shut up, no more than I have the right to tell you to SHUT UP.

I didn't attack anybody and I didn't tell anybody to shut up. I said they could shut up if they wanted to so they brought the issue on themselves. Jackie, Juliet, and Lisa need to grow up. They call everyone who disagrees with them or who has an opinion different from theirs HATERS. That's just stupid.

She won't because when it comes to Juliet she is a wimp because she has let Juliet lay a huge guilt trip on her. The other four aren't affected at all unless they choose to be affected. I sense that the entire subject of LGBTQ is something you are not comfortable with and that it is something that should remain in the closet. I think if you did some research on the subject and in particular transgender you might learn about why it is good for them that it is out in the open and gaining acceptance. For far too long those people that realized they were transgender were more likely to commit suicide than any other group of persons suffering from depression. I really disagree with labelling Jackie a wimp. It must have taken a tremendous amount of courage for Juliet to inform her family. It was made easier for her than many others in the same position because of her supportive and understanding family. To suggest that Jackie should distance herself from Juliet is not rational. Jackie and Juliet grew up together and were very close and that continued for a long period of time through Juliet accompanying Jackie on the road more than the other two siblings. When Juliet finally stepped out of the "closet", the relationship began to change. There was no way that this news could be shoved into the background for such a notable family so open to the public. Jackie could not turn her back on her sister and long time best friend. Jackie has taken the position of being openly supportive of her sister and the LGBTQ community in general. Jackie is a principled person and is not afraid of ruffling a few feathers of those that cannot find room to accept and understand.
I am a bit surprised at your stance Rick given that you have suffered and lived with asperger's syndrome. I did not even know what it was until I met you online and then did some research to understand what it is. I should imagine there are some that feel people who have this condition should feel shame and keep it in the closet. That too would be an irrational position to take and even worse to make a statement about how they feel about it.
My final comment to you concerns your wish that Juliet shuts up about being transgender and trying to pass herself off as a real woman. I don't know how you personally define "real woman". Mentally, Juliet has always been female and now physically she appears to be the woman she always felt she was. While it is true that she cannot become pregnant, she is not different than a great number of other women who are unable to conceive. Perhaps they too are excluded from your definition of real women.
The raison d'etre for discussing the LGBTQ topic and transgender in particular is to gain some understanding and acceptance of the life struggles that the community faces daily by breaking down the wall of intolerance.

Gordie, I have nothing against transgenders. They don't make me uncomfortable. But there are real transgenders like Jazz Jennings and then there is Juliet. Juliet's transgender story has changed so much it is two different stories. I believe the first story is the truth. When Jacob was 13 Lisa thought he was a gay boy. Then SHE told HIM he might be transgender. He had never heard of it and didn't know what it was so he researched it online and decided he is transgender. Juliet was born. In that story there is no, "I was born with a female brain" which is absurd. There is no, "I hated playing with trucks when I was little and hated getting my hair cut short." There is, "I'd never heard of it before" which means before age 13 he never thought of himself as a girl. I believe Lisa manipulated him into it and he saw it as his way to notoriety and fame.
Instead of the word "real" I should have used the word "natural." If I were transgender my goal would be to pass as a woman and blend in. I wouldn't be on TV saying "Look at me. I'm transgender!"

I'm sorry Rick.....if you could see me now you would see me shaking my head in disbelief. I don't know how I could possibly provide a rebuttal to your post without escalating into something I don't believe either of us want. So I'm withdrawing from offering up other factual comments that fully contradict your beliefs.

I did not see the Tuesday night presentation of Growing Up Evancho. I don't have cable , and the video provided by TLC will not load past the first commercial, about 15 minutes or so into the program. It's not important enough for me to download a huge file to see it. I've read all the comments here since it aired from those who are disgusted by what they saw to those who are inspired by what they learned. I don't have to know the story as it was presented to make my determination.
The Evancho family have obviously endured more than most of us can imagine and have remained loyal to one another. What's more important than that? Despite the extraordinary difficulties, even the rivalries and jealously that would naturally occur in a very talented family, and particularly one having a prodigiously gifted child as Jackie, they move forward together meeting one challenge after another. I make no judgement about what each of them should or shouldn't do, what's right or wrong for one or the other, what's appropriate or inappropriate, or what should be expected from either of them, any more than I would scrutinize my neighbor or the family down the street. It's really none of my business. I wish them all well. My interest is in Jackie, in that I hope she finds her path to reaching her aspirations and goals.
I believe Jackie will continue in whatever manner she finds necessary and appropriate to bring her gift to the world. And, I believe she will do it with the dignity, grace and love for humanity that she has exhibited thus far, bringing joy to those who are sad, peace to those who are troubled, hope to those in despair, and bringing to tears those who have yearned for something truthful and real to release their deepest passion. She has through her music, her personal charm and humble sincerity done that for countless people who have testified to their experience. Such a gift cannot be lost but must have an enduring means of expression. I for one, am open to whatever form of expression Jackie finds in her heart and by necessity that brings her gratification and the reward she deserves for what she has given from her love of singing and desire to make people happy. She will undoubtedly surprise us. It matters not to me really what genre she chooses. It is and always has been her voice that captivates me and will always hold my interest. Her versatility is astonishing, and I'm sure she will apply it to bring forward what she is compelled to offer. Her personality delights me as well, even when she's acting a little obnoxious, as teenagers will. Jackie is Jackie, and I gotta love her. That's it. Shame on anyone who finds it necessary for whatever reason suits their purpose to diminish her in any way. She's just a young woman who is seeking fulfillment as does anyone. Yet, in her search she has given to those of us who are receptive something rare and uniquely special to be treasured forever. I expect more treasures will come from Jackie, because she seems destined from the beginning to enter the hearts of all who have a place for her and her artistry there. I am awaiting in anticipation of what she has to delight us with in this coming phase of her career.

Becoming so vocal and demanding is often counterproductive often leading to confrontation and abuse from others, which is something likely to add to the possibility of depression and suicide.

Patients who do this have the best prognosis.

The TLC special portrayed Jackie as an immature ditzy girl who is stuck up and completely dominated by her mommy and older sister. It would not endear her to people and potential fans. There was almost nothing about her music. I think it is great for her if they don't make anymore.

People who watch these shows want to see infighting and drama amongst family members, not sugar and spice everything is nice. If they had Lisa and Jackie attacking Trump calling him names people would tune in droves. 😯

No doubt it was made for the reason to promote transgenderism since it came on after the show Jazz. There's a reason why I never watch TLC and The Evancho special confirmed it for me. It would have been nice if they spent some time showcasing Jackie's music rather than Jacob and his boyfriend. About 25 minutes into the show it confirmed what I always thought drove Jacob into wanting to be a female and that being jealous of Jackie. It was probably so difficult for him growing up in the Evancho family with all the attention on Jackie. Poor kid never had a chance. Ever thing was centered on Jackie. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie! If Jackie never made onto the AGT show and was never discovered, would there have ever been an Juliet? I say no! I predict they will grow more apart when they get older and on their own in life. Hopefully then will Jackie focus on her career. That is if she still has one.

I feel sorry for Juliet, seems not much going on in the brain department when her biggest goal in life is to be on the cover of some magazine.🙁
