I thought I would give everyone here a tip about staying in Napa, CA. for this concert. I purchased my ticket and then started looking for a hotel room. I was rather shocked to find that the going rate for a room for one night is about $500.00. Also most of the hotels I looked at wanted you to stay two nights, Friday and Saturday. Two nights including taxes etc. almost $1200.00. That's pretty rich for my budget. I found another option. There is a camp ground 3.3 miles from the Theatre just across the river that has spaces for RVs= $35.00 per night and for Tent campers=$25.00 a night. The name of the park is Skyline Wilderness Park. I called and made a reservation. You might want to call them and get all the details. I believe the lady told me that their office opens at 1:00 P.M. and closes at 7:00 P.M. You must check in as they give you a code to get through the gate after office hours. I imagine the concert will last until ten or eleven o'clock so you will need the code. They have a wibsite with the contact information. Just thought I would throw this out there in case someone is hesitating about going due to the high cost of hotels. From those prices, it sounds like Napa is an upscale region. California wine country I think. This may be a good site selection for Jackie. Hope so. J R would know if Jackie has been there or close by before. But the reason I quoted your post Jerry240, is we know Jackie is an at least somewhat wealthy teenager who is careful with her money. When you're at the campground, look around for Jackie, Juliet, Zach, Rachel, Lisa and Mike. Maybe in a tour bus instead of a tent camper though. Looking forward to your report. I'm glad you mentioned it. The thought that they could be staying there didn't occur to me. The park website says they have archery. We know that is one of Jackie's favorite hobbies. The Napa area is famous for it's wine. I'm sure that's the reason for the high hotel rates. Hopefully there will be a great turn out for Jackie's concert.

Fairfield is a pretty good option. I booked a really nice one bedroom unit in Fairfield through airbnb.com for $125 per night. It's about a 25 to 30 minute drive to the theater which isn't all that bad. We will be driving up in the morning of the 8th and will do some wine tasting. The ticket sales are still slow but hopefully they will pickup closer to the concert. This will by my first time seeing Jackie so I'm really looking forward to it.

I booked at the Travel Lodge in Fairfield for $59. I used some points from Expedia. Trying to make sure this won't cost as much as when I went back East. But trying to go cheap in NorCal can be weird. For San Rafael four years ago I stayed at this motel where some people were actually residents there. There was a dive bar that was physically attached to the motel. I went in there to see if they had food and everyone there gave me the stink eye. I guess something was about to go down because when I returned from the concert the cops where there with flashing lights. Leave it to me to find the sleaziest part of Marin County.

Mike I had a interesting experience in Florida one time. Tried to save a little money so I blooked a Best Western room in Clear Water instead of my usual place in Tampa. Arrived late after a flight delay. Went to check in and the hotel lobby was locked but had a sign saying check in pointing around the corner. Went around the corner and they had a window where you check in. Had to put my credit card and ID through a slot. I was too tired to look for another hotel so I did spend the night. I moved to a better place the next day. After a search on the Internet I found out the Best Western was located in a known gang area. Sometimes it's better to just pay a little extra.

And if the hotel breakfast is so lousy you have to go elsewhere to eat, you're not really saving a lot, anyway. Hard to get a good deal in California. I paid $170 in Palm Desert for a 1960s era Holiday Inn room. Small old TV set, broken elevator, crap breakfast and noisy automatic front door.
In Pittsburgh I paid $135 at Embassy Suites on a weekend. An actual suite, with a large plasma TV in each room. Nice sofa and a little settee with a portable table like in the hospital. A dining room table, large closet, large fancy glass shower. A real breakfast buffet and a line for made to order omelets. 5pm to 7pm: complimentary drinks, no limit. You can have as many as you can down and stand in line for. They even checked my bags after room checkout so I could sightsee a bit more.

Fairfield CA. is an Air Force town. Not much in the way of gangs and slums. You will be fine Mike. I will be staying at the Motel 6 so maybe we can get together and carpool to the concert.
