The Elegance of Jacquelin Evancho
Our little lady of song has become to me the epitome of elegance. A young woman now, she exemplifies simplicity with refinement and grace, charm and dignity. The blending of her modest demeanor with her countenance, which to me is one of classical beauty, and the exquisite, soaring delicacy of her voice has become the composite signature of Jacquelin Marie Evancho.
Is it any wonder that this seventeen year old is an Ambassador of "Troy" in Beijing? She now represents her country in one of the most ambitious presentations of equine magnificence ever produced. Her recording and performance of the theme song "Set Me Free for the event is another milestone in the adventure of a child who humbly said, "I want to use my voice to do good in the world". This a 21st Century saga of a young lady's dream unfolding before us.

I like this quote: "The music kind of possesses me when I sing. So whenever I start to sing on a show - I mean, first, I'm nervous, and then when I get into it, it's just like I feel like I'm the person who sang the song first." - Jackie Evancho. www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/j/jackie_evancho.html

Is it any wonder that this seventeen year old has been chosen an Ambassador of "Troy" in Beijing? She now represents her country in one of the most ambitious presentations of equine magnificence ever produced. Her recording and unannounced performance of the theme song "Set Me Free for the event is another milestone in the adventure of a child who humbly said, "I want to use my voice to do good in the world". This a 21st Century saga of a young lady's dream unfolding before us. Unannounced? It became clear, early on, that the reason Jackie was in China was that she had recorded the theme for "Troy" and she was there to promote it and participate in the pre-show PR. The Troy management indicated that there were several ambassadors and that it is, in effect, their name for paid promoters. It was a great "get" for Jackie, because it introduces her to a new audience, but let's not associate with doing "good in the world". It was doing good for Jackie.

Thank you, Julia. "Unannounced": Obviously you were better informed than I was. I will make that correction. I didn't realize that "an ambassador" meant anything other than an official representative to a foreign country. I'll stick with that and the rest of it. Though, your point is noted.

RENAISSANCE GIRL Definition of Renaissance: "The revival of art and literature under the influence of classical models." There'a another artistic period I think Jackie is a modern expression of - the Romantic Period: "Romanticism was characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism as well as glorification of all the past and nature, preferring the medieval rather than the classical." Jackie would have been a bright star to Romantic poets like Keats and Byron, and didn't Wordsworth describe his art as "the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings". Isn't that closer to what Jackie evokes in us all? Wasn't it the German painter Caspar David Friedrich, who said that "the artist's feeling is his law". As for music: Haydn, Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, Verdi and Berlioz were all Romantics. Today, the Gothic-themed music of Evanescence and Within Temptation is in fact a hearkening back to the Romantic Period's idealization of the Gothic. She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellow'd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

..."The best things come in small packages".
Jackie Evancho has had an astounding career in music unequaled by any other female artist, yet relatively unrecognized by the public at large. She might be compared with some of the great painters who, in their unique ways, challenged the cultural norms and were either misunderstood or ignored in their day, but later became acknowledged as masters. Jackie, in my opinion, is a voice of the century who may not be widely known until much later for what she has accomplished. Jackie may be rightly described as a highly versatile and experimental songstress who has successfully challenged herself to transcend several genres. She has made evident her broad interpretive skills and musical sensitivity from country (at age 8) to classical, to crossover, jazz, Broadway, to movie themes, and recently to pop music. It has been said that Jackie has everything that makes one "a star". She said once in her innocent but confident way early on AGT, " I'm going to show America that the best things come in small packages". A rather prophetic statement from a then 10 year old.
Jackie's entire career seems to have been a series of destinies, from having first been introduced to "The hit Man" producer David Foster at age 9, to her success on AGT, to performing a duet with Andrea Bocceli in Florence, to singing the National Anthem for the presidential inauguration of 2017. And, many more seeming coincidences of a grand nature have characterized her professional history. I'm not one to believe in fate, but I can't ignore the way in which Jackie's career has followed a pattern of successive, fortuitous events since performing her first full length PBS concert at age 11. It's been said that "Dream With Me In Concert" may be the most astonishing and memorable of the "Great Performances" ever produced.
Countless articles have been written of her prodigious talent and her exquisite soprano voice. Small in stature and elegantly dressed, her adorable grace of presence on stage, and her humility as a genuine person of kindness and generosity has won the hearts of audiences from the U.S. to Japan, Russia, Great Britain, Canada, Costa Rica, Italy and Thailand. Now at age 17 she has recorded and performed the theme song "Set Me Free" for TROY which is to be a rare magnificent equestrian event soon to take place in Beijing, China. Moreover, she represents the United States as an ambassador to the event, which speaks to her character as a gracious, and modestly diplomatic young woman who, by her own admission, is "kinda shy", and a simple girl at heart, devoted to her family and to her fans.

We could add Taiwan where she performed with Jose Carreras before a crowd of 30,000 who sat happily in a downpour to listen to Jackie and Jose.

We could add Taiwan where she performed with Jose Carreras before a crowd of 30,000 who sat happily in a downpour to listen to Jackie and Jose. That was incredible!! The only recent event I can recall to have an audience that large endure such a deluge was the concert in New York's Central Park featuring Andrea Bocelli, the new African Soprano Superstar Pretty Yende and the New York Philharmonic. I know many here find opera boring, but Ms. Yende's voice is from somewhere in the Galaxy. This was the first time I'd heard her sing and my jaw hit the floor. She is imho the reincarnation of Leontyne Price. This is Puccini's 'O Soave Fanciulla' from La Boheme; [BTW Ms. Yende's first performance at the Met was notable in that she fell down the stairs at the beginning of her first aria. She bravely got up, continued singing and at the end of the opera, received a standing ovation!!]

RENAISSANCE GIRL Definition of Renaissance: The revival of art and literature under the influence of classical models. The renaissance began in Florence in the 14th century. The intellectual basis of the Renaissance was its own invented version of humanism, derived from the rediscovery of classical Greek philosophy, such as that of Protagoras, who said that "Man is the measure of all things". Although the Renaissance saw revolutions in many intellectual pursuits, as well as social and political upheaval, it is perhaps best known for its artistic developments and contributions of such polymaths (person of wide-ranging knowledge or learning) as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, who inspired the term "Renaissance Man". (wikipedia) Is it perhaps prophetic in a way that Jackie's first Public Television concert stage had the statue of Michelangelo's David shown high at its center directly behind little Jackie as she performed When You Wish Upon A Star? "Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in a sees you through". Jackie said in her intro to the DWM in Concert performance, "Sometimes my dreams lead to bigger dreams". Jackie has said in interviews that she wants to be "a kind of Renaissance man", she "wants to do it all". We know of her early attempts at WRITING with "Dream with Me" and now in her recent expoits with her Pop originals, she shows the depth of her inner awareness. All had begun with her innate inclination toward the classical and desire to express herself at the age of 8. She has ventured successfully into MODELING with "Guess Kids". And, what of her collection of stunning performance dresses she and her mother have chosen for her concerts? She is a very fashion conscious young lady, tastefully wearing anything from popular jeans with knee holes to that gorgeous "Troy Theme" performance gown now to be seen world-wide. Jackie is showing promise in the FINE ARTS with her paintings and drawings which demonstrate already her understanding of composition, subtlety of color and contrast, with nicely flowing line. She portrays an air of sensuality, grace, and a certain innocence in her female images. Jackie is not just drawing. She sings through her art, just as her artistry is portrayed in her music. Jackie has a keen sense of rhythm, as of course she would, with a propensity toward DANCE which I think is shown by her hand-gesturing, head-swaying teen fun dancing in the car, quite imaginative and even symbolic. Much of her movement on stage has become more graceful. Now, Jackie has revealed another interest, which I surmised would become evident at some time. It's not surprising, considering her love of animals, that Jackie would have an interest in horses, more than casual but an active desire, evidenced by the photo of her on horseback in English attire. Now, there is this video of her in Beijing engaged in a training excercise of a show horse with its trainer, who would have known somehow that Jackie would have an interest in participating. I wouldn't be surprised if Jackie had asked. She was being shown that communication with horses is a matter of visual language (cues), and of attitude and demeanor (assertiveness or withdrawing). HORSEMANSHIP is both psychology and the art of communication. If she continues in some way with horsemanship, her expressed interest in PSYCHOLOGY would be advantageous. It's all working with the mind whether human or animal. Jackie is revealing to the world that she is indeed prodigiously talented and versatile, having indulged in a variety of endeavors, along with her extraordinary singing career. She is inventive, assertive and courageous. Is there any doubt that Jackie Evancho will always be successful at whatever she puts her mind to, whatever field of interest she may explore? We can only imagine with our fondest hopes what lies ahead for this budding Renaissance Girl, and what influence she will have in the advancement and betterment of art and humanity. Yes horses Jackie loves horses. She might even want to do this one day. The greatest Dressage performance I have ever seen;

I'm humbled by your comments, catmando and juxtaposer. One of my greatest pleasures these days in addition to relishing Jackie's music is being part of this "intrepid little band of admirers" who's mission is to bring Jackie into greater awareness in the public mind. Thank you.
