Weird...
The VEVO/SAC version of Hallelujah with Peter Hollens seems to be sped up a bit, just enough to put it in the key of Eb - the original was in D. I also get the extra rhythmic electronic noise you sometimes hear with computerized pitch & tempo adjustments.
Seems quite odd. VERY odd. Is it just something with my system, or does everyone hear the differences?

First off, facts being facts, Drummer Boy is not the best song in the world. It is, however, one of my favorite Christmas songs. It is not the best Jackie Evancho song. It is a GREAT Jackie Christmas song. It is also the best harmonizing she has ever done, IMO, even better than TTSG with Bocelli, although that particular duet is one of my all time favorites. All in all, this Christmas album should be one of the best Christmas albums

I have wanted to hear Jackie sing Little Drummer Boy since Heavenly Christmas. This is just my opinion, but I don't like the version with Il Volo. Il Volo is louder than Jackie. She has been relegated to little more than a backup singer. The solo version is perfect. It is everything I wanted.

You can register your complaints to Sony here... I'm not shy. I complained. I think Jackie and Peter should sue them.

It must be a mistake, why would they change the pitch? It makes no sense, especially on a previously released song.

I just love The Little Drummer Boy. Someone commented that it's better than Charlotte Church's version. I have to agree and I've always loved Charlotte's version...still do. But Jackie is really that good. It reminds me of what a friend remarked when I pointed him to Jackie's version of BOTW. He said Jackie's voice was "achingly pure". I guess that's why so many of us cry when we hear it. I'd be interested to hear the backing vocal isolated. I found myself more attuned to that with each subsequent listening. I liked the arrangement, in general, that it was more like chamber music than orchestral. To me, the strings sounded very electric. Reminded me of Sigur Ros. I prefer the Jackie-only version, but the Il Volo version is lovely, as well. Same goes with Pie Jesu from last year--prefer Jackie only, but the Domingo version is still a treat.
Someday At Christmas I find myself liking very much. This is Jackie showing us again her idealistic side. I can't wait to see Jackie perform SAC on AGT. Actually, I likely won't have to wait. Someone will probably have it on YT before AGT airs in Pacific time zone. Also, it appears she will perform it in Red Bank and the following concerts until Christmas.

This song isn't on Someday At Christmas. I wish it were instead of Hallelujah. I really like this song. In my opinion it is better than the original. I've listened to it a hundred times and I just keep playing it over and over. Listen to Jackie's beautiful highs. Superb!

Got my CD yesterday from Amazon. Listening over and over this morning as I scan the news. I agree with Rick that it would have been nice if Happy Christmas was on it, but that might not go over well with people who bought both CDs, casual Christmas music buyers. Hallelujah, I don't really see as Christmas music. I don't think anybody but fans (of either Jackie or Peter) will notice the pitch- but I also hear a glitch in the sound of Jackie's voice at 1:33. Just my disc?

I couldn't agree with you more, Rick. I was intrigued and a little excited when Peter let us know about this collaboration. For all his faults, John Lennon had a good heart and wished people not to be hurt. Yoko Ono used to freak out people, but by the 80s it turned out her vocal stylings were ahead of their time seemed nearly mainstream. But let's face it, Jackie and Peter are miles ahead as vocalists. Hearing Jackie sing so beautifully, "War is over...if you want it", really takes me somewhere. As much as I like Hallelujah, this is done much better, so far as using their voices together.

On Happy Christmas, I'm not too fond of the "dum, dubby dubby dum" background. Just me, but I would like better, I think, instead a syllable-less voicing a la Vocalise or Hallelujah.
On both Drummer Boys, the string accompaniment and other electronics seems a bit overamped towards the end, into a wall of sound, that the voices are just kind of swimming in.* Just a little over done in the production. A little odd to have two versions of the same song on a CD- but they are both so good in their separate ways I'm glad they are both on it.
But on all three, Jackie is beautiful.
*I know, mixed metaphor. I can see the grader red marking that, with a comment: "how do you swim in a wall?"

schrodinger, I agree about the "dum dubby..." part. Too jazz-like and a bit out of place. But a very minor issue.

A shame no-one listened to one of those they opened to have Jackie autograph...
I didn't buy the complete album, just the new songs, didn't see any need to give Sony more money for those I'd already bought, their poor efforts on Hallelujha makes me feel even better about it.
I like the new songs and have added them to the Jackie Christmas folder... I too like the Jackie-only version of Little Drummer Boy, but not as much as I liked Do You Hear What I Hear?

Just my disc? Besides the change in pitch, up 1/2 tone from D to Eb, I hear an "electronic pulsing" sound throughout the track on the CD. It sounds like the sound you hear when you run music thru cheap software to change the pitch or tempo without changing both at the same time. (Both change on analog equipment, like when you played 33-1/3 RPM albums at 16-2/3 RPM speed - the tempo would be half as fast & the pitch would be an octave lower.) Sony REALLY needs to make this right. Jackie should sue them if they don't - or we should all do it.
