Wow, Wow What a beautiful start. She's singing the intro to Over the Rainbow. What a great voice! There's that gorgeous bell tone. Folks there are going to hear it for the first time and feel the "Jackie effect".

Jazz, with its built-in improvisation, is judged by somewhat different standards. Yeah, I usually say if you enjoy making music, have fun and who cares how good you are. And he's 81, at that. I play guitar and harmonica, and I'm probably no better than he is. (But, oh God, I wish and hope and pray I am. ) I'm pretty used to people playing badly but having a lot of fun. Beer helps. And I've always got Jackie to come back to when the evening is over.

That little clip says so much. What it tells me is that Jackie Evancho, my favorite singer, is a songstress for the ages. What a wonderful sound and what masterful phrasing. I bet some people will be wanting to come back for another show.

As requested! The intro. Where's my ticket... Yeah, no kidding. I nearly went to Expedia to look at Saturday flights, but pulled up short. It was nice to fantasize for few seconds, anyway.

I just realised I could have been there for a week and caught several of her concerts then hit Broadway on other nights. Its nearly cheaper for me to fly to the US than to fly home from work, I'm off this arvo for 2 weeks, but I pre-booked my flight home several months ago. The Carlyle would have been good, small venue book about 5 concerts over two weeks then hit a bunch of tourist spots in between like the Grand Canyon or head to Whistler for some late season snow, then hit Hawaii on the way home.

Yes, it's better for many reasons when the concerts are announced with more lead time. Easier for travelers to make plans and pay for it over a period of time. I think some of the early Awakening tour cancellations, e.g. San Francisco, were due to short lead time.

At least in the pictures, the Café Carlyle looks sold out.

Nor me. It may be that this kind of cabaret or supper club appearance will appear in the NY gossip columns over the next week and depend on how many mentions Jackie's PR woman, Kim Jakwerth, can manage to get. The PR rep is all important. It's not like theater reviews, where the major newspapers have designated critics at opening night and their reviews appear the next day. Edit: Let me add, up to now, Kim J. has been doing a terrific job, so I expect to see quite a lot of NY media attention while Jackie's at the Carlyle. Now if she could only produce a hunky S/O, that would help even more in media interest.

Unless he means next Wednesday.
