Is the obvious reason that Jackie suffers from the Jackie Effect herself when she sings it? It's obvious to me that she HATES singing that song. What makes it "obvious" to you that she hates singing Danny Boy, cer? Can you be more explicit for our benefit? Her rendition of the song does not reveal contempt, to me anyway, or the many who are profoundly affected by her performance.

If she liked the song, don't you think she would be singing it at her concerts!? I read the songs lists on here from her concerts and I have never seen it listed. I really don't think a detailed explanation is needed.... hence the word "obvious."

Her rendition of the song does not reveal contempt, to me anyway, or the many who are profoundly affected by her performance. The story is that while DF said Jackie was first take with most material, he had her doing Danny Boy over and over, to get it just exactly the way he wanted it. And it didn't even make the album, but ended up as a giveaway to people that bought the CD from their website. LE once said Jackie would be in a "rubber room" if she had to sing that again. There are those that still say the emotional effect of the song itself was a factor; and one couldn't rule that out from what LE said...but I doubt that's the main meaning, mostly just that they never liked the song ("dirge" was mentioned, I think) in the first place, but she had to do it over and over and over and ... One can be quite sick of something, but still professional enough to do what a respected producer asks and ultimately yield an impressive result. Doesn't mean one would ever want to sing it again, that much I can understand.

I appreciate your "explicit" response which I find entirely reasonable. However, with regard to the poll, Jackie's personal feeling about performing Danny Boy is, in my opinion, not relevant to the affect it has had upon listeners who regard it as one of the more moving in their personal experience. I would not assume it hasn't been nominated yet because Jackie may have disliked the experience of recording it ("hating the song"), as cer suggests. When I listen to Danny Boy, I am moved by her performance, not wondering or guessing why she may have hated recording it. Knowing what she may have experienced does not diminish it in the least for me, and most likely not for others either.

Those who wish Jackie well may enjoy the song very much, but be willing to accept that there might never be another recording OR performance of it. Promoting that song, while it might be justifiable on its merits, would not necessarily be doing Jackie a favor. That would keep me from doing something that might otherwise encourage unwelcome requests for that song, even though I think the recorded version deserves recognition. (that, and that sensible people should be just a little afraid of Lisa , at least when she's as emphatic as she was about that) I can't speak for whether others might have similar motivations. But as to listeners that weren't knowledgeable fans, while it is on YouTube, it is not on Jackie's official channel, nor even on her VEVO channel...which should tell you that notwithstanding how much those who have heard it may like it, Jackie and Lisa at least have no intention of promoting it.

Thank you again. I agree that it should not be promoted, with sensitivity to Jackie's experience and her having no intention to promote it herself or to perform it, if that's her desire.
Although it was not "obvious" to me, I understand better now thanks to your helpful explanation. Perhaps there are others to whom it should have been obvious and may now appreciate the circumstance.

The considerate thing to do when asked to be "explicit" is to offer an explanation in the interest of discussion and enlightenment. rlhamil, being the gentleman he is, recognizes that and respectfully responded to my inquiry with regard to Danny Boy for the benefit of all. My thanks to him for his courtesy.

My thanks to him for his courtesy. I was concise and direct. I think it makes fairly good sense that Jackie sings mostly songs that she likes.

Jackie has moved up to 3rd, ahead of Charlie Puth (not to say I don't like him ok) on the best of 2018 poll; let's keep it up. 2nd is probably not out of reach!
First, alas, is held by a gigantic margin. Out of curiosity, I checked out that one a bit. OMG! Just maybe, for now, he deserves first, even if I've never heard of him before this. Not really my thing mostly, but wow just the same. :-)
As has been said before about others...I hope it's safe and sustainable. His wikipedia page indicates an incredible range of 5 3/4 octaves (F2 to D8, although not in any single example I heard as yet).

Jackie is 1% behind Bruno Mars who is #2 presently.

It's very unlikely that Jackie can get the number of vote the Chinese can give.
