Jackie singing the National Anthem at the inauguration was certainly the most viewed performance/appearance of her career, far more than any single appearance on AGT. It made her much more of a household name. It may be a defining moment and turning point in her career.
The unfortunate aspect of Jackie's appearance was that it got widely politicized, with attacks on her by those with their own agenda, for their own purposes, aided or enabled by a lot of the media. The bad network sound feeds from ABC, NBC, CNN and others in the US (with the apparent exception of PBS) of jackie singing the NA were problematic whether accidental, from incompetence, or on purpose. It is indeed strange that the the onsite PA system was fine and the earlier sound checks were apparently OK. This apparently has never happened before at an inauguration with a NA network sound feed. Like a plague of locusts descending to devour a field of crops, the haters, cyberbullies and deranged attacked Jackie on her media sites and you tube videos. Thankfully, almost all of the locusts and haters appear to have now moved on with their vitriol to their next target or cause of the moment.
The controversy and publicity surrounding Jackie singing the NA at the inauguration also have had many positives. She is now much more widely known with far greater public awareness than ever before. The haters' cyberbullying and vitriol have generated a lot of compassion and sympathy for Jackie. The bad behavior is only from a small but very loud minority of people. I expect the great majority of people took her at her word and did not see her appearance as political and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Jackie's grace, class, politeness, inherent dignity, articulate expression and ability to remain above it all serve her well in generating sympathy and goodwill among the general public. It is not a good look to adults with any common sense or decency for anyone to harass, demean or bully her, a 16 year old teenage girl who can not vote, a high school junior who is just following her dream. Jackie's CD and downloads along with concert sales have increased noticeably. Whether this lasts, can be built upon and be sustained remains to be seen.
I do think Jackie has now pretty much shattered the sterotypical obsolete story of being the" little girl from AGT with the great voice". Maybe that will now be more of a footnote in the backstory. Jackie is now the teenage HS girl who sang the NA at Trump's inauguration. Of course, that is a new image which eventually will need to be replaced also. Only time will tell if this is a truly a defining moment or turning point in Jackie's career. The upcoming album will also be a significant factor. We look forward to seeing how this remarkable career start and ongoing story continue to unfold in the future. We wish Jackie well.
Footnote: This is my viewpoint at a moment in time two weeks+ after Jackie sang the NA at Trump's inauguration. We can only speculate about how this event may appear to people in the future looking back. Others may may differing viewpoints. The post is paced here because it is so closely tied to the inauguration. There is a Jackie career thread elsewhere.
