Open Fields of Grace (lyrics here from the Jackie Denmark site)
www.jackie-evancho.dk/lyrics/openfieldsofgrace.html
reminded me of this poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye:
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. It really is a wonderful poem. I go to this poem when I remember my friends and I visit them on the wall in Washington. I first heard it when my youngest granddaughter, at the time, past away. I often play the following song by Kat Jenkins and hope some day Jackie might sing it at a Memorial Day celebration.

Awakening has to be my favourite album of all of Jackie's albums. It showcases her exceptional capabilities and shows off the stunning beauty of her voice. Personally, my favourite songs from awakening are Your Love, Dormi Jesu, Vocalise and Ave Maria. My favorite song on "Awakening" This is a beautiful song. "Made to Dream", was written just for Jackie. If you examine the lyrics and compare them to her life since AGT they are almost autobiographical. "There are times I close my eyes And wish upon a star I tell myself my fairytale’s Not far, not far" In fact Jackie has been living a fairy tale since ATG. Her many fans say the she has the voice of an angel and have often called her a princess. "And wish upon a star", these lyrics reflect "When you wish upon a Star" one of the songs on her album "Dream With Me." "From now on, my life’s my song And I write the words My moment will come And until then, i’ll hold on, i’ll hold on" The first phrase can have a double meaning, 1. Jackie is becoming an adult and claiming ownership of the direction her life will take. 2.Her life is indeed singing and she is now starting to write the words to her songs some of which will be on her new album, "Two Hearts" being released on March 31th. "My moment will come". Jackie is waiting for the moment to come which may have already arrived. With the publicity from the inauguration and her sister being a transgender her name is becoming very well known both positively and negatively. "Made to dream To live my goals To be counted for, to stand Knowing you’ll take my hand" Jackie is who she is. In a recent interview when asked what she wanted to achieve, what her goals were for the future she responded that she wanted to do it all, to be a renaissance women. Despite the controversy and bullying what she experienced for her singing the National Anthem at the inauguration she took a stand. She said that it was an honor to sing for her country and had faith that her true fans would take her hand and support her. "I’m here, I was made for this, to sing ’til I have no voice at all ’til the dream makes me takes me home." She acknowledges that her destiny is to continue to try to have a positive influence in the world as long as she has a voice. I am reminded of her song "To believe" which appeared on the album "Dream with Me". A then 11 year old Jackie prayed, "Father, as you see, I'm just a child And there's so much to understand But if Your Grace should surround me Then I'll do the best I can I promise, I'll do the very best I can." So far Jackie you have been doing far more than is required for someone your age. Given her past performance over just the last 6 years since AGT, I can only imagine greater success for her in the future. May God continue to surround you with His grace."

I agree with Sean about Ave Maria. The wordless phrases in the middle of the song, that end in that long note, are otherworldly and eerily beautiful. I miss the Awakening songs. Jackie doesn't sing any of them any more, except part of Think of Me, which is really a re-working of a PTAD song. I'm trying to remember if Memories or Made to Dream was the last Awakening song to be on the set list.

I thought she sang Memories both the last times I saw her, in January at Tyler and again in May in Indianapolis?

I wish she would bring back With Or Without You. And My Immortal. Yes, with Peter accompanying on piano, throughout. Jackie sings it magnificently. But tickling the ivories is not her thing. People don't go to Yo-Yo Ma's concerts to see him play the bassoon. BTW, for the SoCal people, Yo-Yo Ma is performing the six Bach cello suites at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday, September 12th. The expensive seats are all sold, but there are many $37 ones available.

I'm surprised to find myself missing "Fix You". It really picked up at the chorus when Peter added his vocals.

I disagree, I have found Jackie's nervous and imperfect piano playing endearing. Peter, and my 7 year old neighbor for that matter, have nothing to fear from Jackie in the piano playing department, but to me it is what her rendition of My Immortal live is all about from the first performance at Longwood. Some have been pretty good, others, not so much, but each had me on the edge of my seat cheering her on no matter how it went. Some feel it is amateur hour, but not me, it takes guts to through it all out there for the world to see. Certainly more guts than me.

I have found Jackie's nervous and imperfect piano playing endearing. I agree entirely with you, rick. Jackie's honesty and courage have always endeared her to me. She's been a refreshingly genuine performer since the beginning who's imperfections are as becoming to her as her eloquence.
