This is her official video. She duets with herself and the musical arrangement is more lush;

Re training, I think if Jackie can get any benefit from professional training then she should do it. But I would't take it for granted. One of the regrets in my life is that I didn't find out about Jackie in time to share her with my own dear late mother. As a young girl, my mother was said to have the prettiest voice in the north. During the war, at the age of about twelve, she was spotted by a government talent scout, taken out of school and sent 1,500 miles away to be given voice training in a performing arts program. She never liked the training and did not respond well to it. The worst part of it was that though they were supposed to keep her regular schooling up they didn't bother, and after a year when they finally put her back in school they put her in with her own age, so having missed a whole year she went from near the top of the class to the bottom. This wouldn't be a problem for Jackie, but I mention it to make the point that professional training is not necessarily the great way forward, at least it wasn't in my mom's case. My deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. Thank you, Catmando. They wanted to train future performers for stage musicals, which was all the rage in the 40's. But my mother was never going to be a performer, she was just a kid who loved to sing. She sang every day of her life just about. It was part of what made her such a joyful person. Cheers.

It's murder here today - 115 degrees F and rising, so I'm putting this one up to cool me down. Jackie says she loves winter and the cold, but I'm about to run out of ice cubes. This is a very well known song, I'm sure. Anne Murray sang it sweetly, and Elvis nicely too. This is from an Aussie girl who disappeared all too soon, just like the snowbird.

juxtaposer, I'm up in the mountains so it's a lovely cool 108 deg F!
I remember that song. Slowed down a touch it could be excellent for Jackie.
Correction:- 112 Deg F .Hoping not to smell smoke. All the hoses and buckets in place.

Jackie doesn't need to go back to the 60s and 70s to find good pop songs and besides, none of her age group listens to stuff that old anyways. She needs to sing modern pop that appeals to modern teenagers not their parents.

There are any number of reasons why she would choose to sing a particular song.

A lot of teenagers wouldn't realise they were old. I just spent 2 week on a bus in Europe with a bunch of teenagers. They all love singing along to "oldies". And know all the words. Having said that I am waiting with anticipation for Jackie's originals

There are any number of reasons why she would choose to sing a particular song. I did some looking up, and I have to admit I only found a couple earlier than the 60's: "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "Some Enchanted Evening". But there are several from the 60's and 70's, including "Je t'aime", "Pure Imagination", "What A Beautiful World" and "Your Love", and "Phantom of the Opera" is an 80's product. So I take your point, but I don't see it as my mission to find her a modern pop song. She is the best qualified to do that, and I note that you are doing a pretty good job of it too.

Forget about Snowbird - I only posted that on a whim, a heat-stressed induced delirium, in fact. I'm taking the advice and posting some pop a bit more modern, this time a bird of a different feather: a Ladyhawke. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on her, Catmando, and what you think Jackie might think of her.

Juxtaposer, I like Ladyhawke. She is a very good singer/songwriter from New Zealand. I'm sure Jackie would like too. Ladyhawke is very good musician and is into new wave and indie rock.

I looked everywhere for Sarah Brightman's In Pace. I think it is definitely one that Jackie was made to sing. Instead of Sarah, here is audio from Branagh's Hamlet, In Pace:

I wonder if other singers in her genre sing with straight tones like that?? But yes I like her tone of voice and that musical style would definitely fit Jackie as would Amy Lee's. Emma Shapplin has gone into New Wave as well but has not sold many albums. I personally think she's too "far out".

The only place I have found her performance of In Pace is on her phenomenal album "Time To Say Goodbye". It's not on youtube. Thank you for the choral video it's the closest rendition to Sarah I have ever heard.
If you play TTSG you will understand why Dame Brightman has sold 70 million albums. To me she will always be the Queen of Classical Crossover.
