It will be fascinating to learn the favourite composers of members of this forum. For me, my favourite composers will have to be Mahler (for his symphonies), Chopin, Haydn, Rachmaninov and Bach. No offense, but to me Mahler seems the perfect example of indiscipline: except in his First Symphony he doesn't know when to stop and just drones on and on... Your other nominees are more to my liking, but I'm pretty rooted in the Nineteenth Century German Romantics, especially Brahms, Schumann and Richard Wagner. And of course Beethoven.

Blame Juxtaposer for this.
Tim Minchin is my favourite composer because he is one of the few who can be considered a TV actor, screen actor, stage actor, comedian, musician, singer, poet, and composer. He now has two hit stage productions he has written music and lyrics for Matilda and Groundhog day, and he's currently working on a Pixar movie.
Here he is addressing the controversial issue of prejudice.

Never would have picked it. Australia's Tom Lehrer. He was good in The Secret River (disturbingly good, to say).

Oops, almost forgot: for jazz piano, Thelonious Monk. He was his own revolution. There's still nobody like him.
Other people have mentioned great songwriters & composers. How can you go wrong with Bach, Mozart, Rach, Mancini, John Lennon et al?

How could I have gone past the band that invented Hip Hop
Flight of the Concords. Bret has an Oscar for his Compositions for the Muppets.
OK guys its not really Hip Hop, these are comedians and this is all the things I don't like about rap, hiphop etc.
"I'm the Hiphopapotomous my lyrics are bottomless......(pregnant pause)........."
