I joined the Joni Mitchell Club on Facebook (17,000 members) and I posted about Jackie’s new album. Unfortunately their responses were not great overall.

I can understand their complaints about the backing music on the few songs from the album that have been released so far in that, the tracks sound like karaoke or overly computerized. But Jackie’s voice or timbre is remarkably like Joni’s actually. Which I find quite impressive.

I also see TDS liberal losers with way too much time on their hands complaining about backing tracks and singing at the President of the United States inauguration...which is also anti-American by the way. I think Jackie's songs are great, and the music sounds nice as well.

I can be objective about that...it's not Jackie's doing. It sounds fine.

Christmas!" produced by Kirsten Chenoweth, with the same team. There were some statements about the background music that said exactly the same thing. Joni Mitchell has often only accompanied himself. That's all you need.

Jackie got a similar reaction to her Susan Boyle duet on Dream with Me. I read the Susan Boyle forum at the time of the announcement and they were pretty nasty, the nastiest at that point I witnessed until some of them heard the duet but it was a very nasty vibe. Also no real singer would turn down that Inauguration Anthem gig. They should listen to the whole album in Sep and maybe that will change their minds. Perhaps if you can post there again when its out.

They should listen to the whole album in Sep and maybe that will change their minds. One of the comments typifies an ignorant and biased mindset that would likely not even consider listening to the album: "Overproduced by Mitch Miller III. Joni had real musicians, this lady has computerized layers of sonic modulations" Fred Mollin of Melody Place is a highly respected and vastly experienced producer/musician who hires top notch studio musicians for the likes of Willie Nelson, Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Vince Gill, Glen Campbell, Crosby and Nash, Art Garfunkel, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Sheryl Crow and Natalie Cole. This is a comment posted on the Both Sides Now video by a fellow fan and retired studio musician: "If anyone cares the session players on Jackie's new album are Bryan Sutton acoustic guitar Larry Paxton stand up bass Tommy Harden Drums Pat Coil key boards Kerry Marx Electric Guitar Jim Hoke Clarinet and Flute Fred Mollin Synth These guys are some of the best session players in Nashville."
