Jackie is now a young woman who lived all of her adolescent years into young adulthood, from 10 until 21, performing. Many, if not most, very young "performers", entertainers in any genre, tragically arrive 21 as physical, psychological, spiritual, financial wrecks due to drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Some don't arrive at all because of their decision to commit suicide after the applause and fawning over them stops and their usefulness to their industry and their fans ends. Some just die overdosing on the terrible choices they've made. All of them have in common with Jackie, precocious, prodigious talent and a large audience that witnessed and applauded its performance for them when they were very young. That Jackie's "taking a break" at this pivotal point in her life from her audience, whether current or potential, I think is healthy, especially if it's for the sake of her sanity and a healthy and successful future both personally and careerwise. I don't know her personally. I'm pretty sure none on this proboard or the others that have examined her life and career microscopically since she was born do either. But as a 77 yo grandfather, I tend to see young people through that prism and with some wisdom that comes with having spent 77 years trying to learn from and correct a lot of mistakes and taking wrong turns, which I'll remain in the process of until I take my last breath. I recommend as a fellow fan and audience member and grandfather, consequently ..... let's give her "a break". I think we all know her well enough, that she deserves one and maybe most especially ... from us for awhile. Her future in most ways, may depend on it. jcas: I totally agree with everything you just said..... except......my only critique is "especially if it's for the sake of her sanity and a healthy and successful future both personally and careerwise"! Without fans, she will NOT have a successful career, period!! And to go this long without communicating to her fans that all is OK, is not OK! If she is still healthy, then her utter disdain for her current fan base is totally unacceptable and makes me believe that she is using this absence to hone and polish a performance that will attract a younger fan base! I hope I'm wrong, but when the butterfly emerges from this cocoon, we may not like what we see!

Both of you are correct. She deserves this break that she obviously needs. It's also true that she should have let her fan know that she's taking a break instead of just vanishing for four months. It's unprofessional, dismissive, and rude to her fans. On the other hand, she's not even 21 yet...21 year olds do a lot of stupid, unadvisable things, often rude or rebellious things. The flipping the bird alter ego photo of hers that was slinking around Instagram is very unflattering and screams rebellious and frustration to me. If that's how she feels, she has a right to that too. It's a mixed bag, she has the right to feel what she feels and to react to it how she wants to, even if that means telling everyone to f-off. Of course, all actions always have consequences, and the ramifications include sparking all kinds of rumors, upsetting, even angering some fans, and possibly hurting her career to some degree. It is what it is. What we see on the other side, we will see.

All we want is a simple statement from Jackie or Mike as to the reason for the complete shutdown of communication with the fan base. Is that too much to ask?

Jackie is close to celebrating 21 years on the Planet in fairly good shape, personally, imho, because she remained grounded in her family and the love they shared with one another through all the years of her career. That she never turned to what too many others in her profession depend on to relieve the inevitable and dangerous intensity of its pressures. Too many tragically don't have what she's been blessed with. The perfect life? The perfect family? Neither exist. But if you're going to be in the business Jackie's in .... staying connected to those who love and care about you the most in your life .... no matter what ... means her odds of celebrating a very happy 21st birthday are very good. Now, how do I know that for sure? Only because, it's what this old grandfather was blessed with all of his life and the only thing that kept him on or returned him to the straight and narrow .... many times, over many years and still does. I'm still confidently predicting we will learn what this strange, mysterious (to us) hiatus was all about on or about her birthday and that those fans who truly care about her, will accept it and move on with her to what comes next for her..... "no matter what" that is.

Look what he turned into. Jackie could probably do that too if there still were phonebooths.

I was heartened yesterday by an E-mail I received from Tyler (Texas) Junior College; I get them because I attended both Jackie's concert held there the day following the Inauguration of President Trump, and a later one on St Patrick's Day by the classic Irish group The Chieftains. They appear to be planning their *NEW* post-COVID schedule and included a link to a sort of questionnaire consisting of a long list of individual performers, groups, comedians, and public speakers all grouped into categories. Right there among the singers was the name Jackie Evancho, which I naturally checked - one of the very few. So at least it appears that everyone hasn't quite forgotten her yet!

I'm one for whom Jackie remains vividly present in the truly wonderful music she made for this and many thousands of other awestruck fans for 11 years, beginning with the first album she cut in Nov. 2009, Prelude To A Dream. I wrote some years ago on one of her proboards, that if she decided to bag it and retire from performing to just live life like most of the rest of us, I'd remain one of her fans for the rest of my days. She achieved in those 11 young years more than all but a tiny few of us are blessed to do in an entire lifetime. She became one of the world's greatest singers, of and for all time, at just 10 years of age. For all time ..... not just until Dec 2, 2020. (Also posted as my comment to Jackie's, "River", this morning).
