Thank you Rick for setting this up and I hope the admin don't have a tough time here!
There's no mention here in the UK of Jackie, which is a shame. The old proboards was great for reading reviews and seeing people arrange gatherings. It gave a good feeling which other media sites don't have.
I hope this site really takes off.

Does anyone have any idea when and why it was closed the previous proboards forum? What was the final straw that overflowed the glass?

I read a comment that the site was flooded with spam just before the plug was pulled.

I read a comment that the site was flooded with spam just before the plug was pulled. I read that to. I doubt if that would be a problem here. Too many Chiefs here. Spammers here would have about as much chance as Custer did at The Little Bighorn.

I notice this one works much faster than the old proboards, without the banner ads. How did you manage that, or have you just not attracted their attention yet?

The Proboard's that this forum replaces was around for how long? 4 - 5 years? Had how many members? 800 - 900? Had how many threads and posts? hundreds and thousands respectively? What I'm getting at is, by opening this forum and allowing all of the old members (and some new ones), to have a place to go to get their Jackie fix, presents one huge problem for this forum! Been there, done that! First, you would expect the old timers to try, as much as is humanly possible, to mirror the old Proboards. Duplicating the Boards and Threads as memory will allow. The first problem is in propagating the posts found within those Boards and Threads. It is human nature to not enjoy repetitiveness. We will go out of our way to not repeat ourselves. Such is the problem with re-building this forum. It's all been said before!! The second problem is what was lost. In some cases (where backups were not taken), the valuable Jackie data that vanished with her forum, will never be recoverable. The work, the creativity, the hours spent researching and coming up with something out of nothing, is gone forever. This knowledge puts a burden on the member whose data has been unceremoniously thrown away! Re-creation might be close to impossible. Anger might also come into play and prevent the old member from re-joining a similar forum. With all of that said, the most we can expect from this forum is the fresh ideas from the new members and whatever can be resurrected by the old members. It will never look the same again! JMO ☺♪♫

All of your points are valid and at the closing of Lisa's forum there were over 1000 members. As one of the founding members here i do not expect that we can duplicate everything that was lost on that forum. I do however expect us to build a better, more friendly, and informative forum here. This forum has been up and running for only 12 days so it is too soon to tell how well it is going to work out but i have high hopes.

Also, to attract new members, I believe it would be in our best interest to load this forum with as much early Jackie as is humanely possible. The videos we have at our disposal will most surely quench a newcomers curiosity of what a young Jackie sounded like as compared to what she sounds like today. Six years has been a lifetime for Jackie, while just a drop in the bucket for us. JMO ☺♪♫

If the old Proboards was hacked or spammed, how do we know that won't happen here? If it was hacked, what does that mean? If it was spammed, how do we know that it was not spammed by someone who had joined as a legitimate member? And if it was spammed, doesn't that mean that someone would have to be well versed on the makeup of the site in order to post hundreds or even thousands of posts to bring it down? And, how difficult would it be for the Admin's to send personal emails to members warning of the impending shutdown? Something stinks here and, unfortunately for us, we will probably never know. JMO ☺♪♫ I believe this is one reason that this forum will have several admins on board, hopefully during many hours during any 24-hour period. We DON'T know that it wouldn't happen here, you are quite right about that. One key in running and managing a successful forum is communication -- among members, among staff (admins and moderators). I see that I am not the only one who has wondered about the source of that spam attack; if it were indeed a disgruntled former fan or an individual lurking on that forum who has hacking skills, I can only hope that this individual will be found out and proper remedies taken. Unfortunately usually someone who is that sophisticated also knows how to hide his tracks. We don't know if it were someone within the fan community (I certainly hope it was not!) or if it were a random attack from some other source, and probably never will know for sure. Probably during the time the site was actively being bombarded by spam there was no way to salvage it and also no way to communicate with members prior to shutting things down. There is a mechanism here on Proboards for sending emails to all members but it may just not have been possible to use that system during the spam attack.

There is a mechanism here on Proboards for sending emails to all members but it may just not have been possible to use that system during the spam attack. Congrats on the Quote! Once the site was closed down, Admin/s, using any email client(Yahoo, Thunderbird, all free), on any computer (even the library), could have sent some members emails warning of the shutdown. Word would have been propagated like wildfire. That didn't happen and it should have. Doesn't Proboards take a backup of the servers just for emergencies like this? And if not, I'm not impressed. JMO ☺♪♫ Looks as though you posted in the body of my text -- easy mistake to make, I've done it myself in the past! If they had a separate listing of everyone's emails, or even just a few fans' emails, sure, they could use something else to send out emails, but chances are that they did not have such a separate listing. Email addresses are shown to admins as part of someone's profile rather than in a simple listing, so it would have been rather time-consuming to go through everyone's profile to note their email address, especially with 1000+ members. Yes, it would have been nice had they done that but they didn't. Nor was there any explanation ever provided later via social media which would reach not only members of the forum but other fans as well. However, yes, it seems to me that such a project wouldn't be all that difficult now to implement as this new forum is just starting up..... I would certainly think and hope that Proboards has backups of their servers -- I can't imagine that they would not!

Has anyone emailed proboards helpdesk re accessing the backup? I can help with extracting the contents from any sane backup format (I do that sort of thing professionally). Might need permission from the previous owner though (Lisa). Should I investigate further?

No one has contacted Proboards Helpdesk as far as I'm aware......accessing that backup would be great if all the valuable material which was in that forum could be rescued and saved. Wow! Yes, I would think that there would have to be permission from Lisa, and/or that she would need to be the one to make the initial request of the Helpdesk. It certainly seems as though it would be worth inquiring if you have a way of contacting Lisa.

Hi folks. I am staggered that I can't find any official reason for the old forum to shut down. I would have thought some prior warning would have been appropriate considering the large number of members it had. Surely Lisa must have had an idea that this was going to happen and with the number of members who did a lot of support for Jackie one way or the other. At the end of the day fan sites are just that and performers need fans for support. I don't know what the membership number was but it must have been substantial. Very disappointing to say the least. Has anyone been in contact with the 'E-Team' for more information? I have always enjoyed reading the inputs and sometimes contributing. Like most members I like to keep in touch with Jackie's career and the forum is really the only way to get in depth knowledge of up and coming events. I am relocating to New Zealand for a while for business reasons so I will be closely monitoring progress with these issues. Look forward to enjoying all your posts again. I've always felt it's like belonging to a very large family and hope we can all get back together again. Warmest regards, Amigo
