I originally created this thread because of all the songs Jackie has performed, I always come back to the ones that she performs in a foreign language. It is my understanding that she is not fluent in any of then but memorizes the lyrics.
That being said, She is magnificent in capturing the emotion and sets the mood for all of them. The duets with major stars many years her senior are captivating as she more than holds her own with all of them. I have heard that many famous female singers do not want to duet with her as she would out-perform the veterans.
If she never sang another note, I would continue to be a fan and content with the entire body of work she has created and I have a 1 TB drive that I could listen to the resty of my life. Thank you Jackie! One of Jackie's unique abilities is in feeling the Emotion of the music itself. And team with another one of her unique abilities, she is able to bring her audience into the music with her. It was said early on, that other veterans female singers did not want to follow Jackie, some even refusing to, they saw she was that great. When it comes to duets, Jackie is as good as it gets at matching her voice with Who Ever she does duets with. There have been times when a duet partner of her's has tried to "out do" Jackie, to overpower, or over hold a last note, BUT Jackie never has tried doing any of that.

There is a very good youtube video playing "Moon Over Ruined Castle" that shows Jackie singing, but it is not that song actually being sung. I wanted to post this video, even though another video of "Moon Over Ruined Castle" has already been posted, so I could copy and paste a comment made about Jackie. I totally agree with jpswain48. jpswain48 4 years ago The Japanese, known for their adherence to cultural tradition, warmly embraced little Jackie. It is rare that an artist from another country is paid the honor of being requested to appear before the Emperor and Empress of Japan. There is not another vocalist in the world that could have so eloquently paid tribute to Royal Family as Jackie, by masterfully singing in their language. She elevated the cultural stature of all Americans. Miss Jackie Evancho.......our emissary of world class. The only change I would make to jpswain48 comment is this, to change the tense of one word, elevated to elevates, because that is unchanging. So it would be "She elevates the cultural stature of all Americans." I am sure jpswain48 would agree with that statement.

Jackie has been singing in foreign languages since at least age 8 or 9. one of my favorite early videos is of Jackie at age 9 competing in a talent contest in Massachusetts. She appeared to be very tiny and very shy. But then Jackie opened her mouth and started to sing "O Mio Babbino Caro" and the famous "Jackie Effect" took effect. The camera focused on the host of the show Debra Crosby and found her crying. There were other shots of the other contestant with their heads hung low knowing that the end was near. I still to this day do not know how she was able to repeat the foreign lyrics perfectly as such a young age. You are so right. And Jackie, very well could have been a little tired, because they had got up very early for Lisa to drive them to that talent contest in Massachusetts. Certainly Rachel was tired judging by the after-the-show video.

I've never seen a child perform so naturally, with such authentic emotion and confident intensity. She captures the music and then by some magic releases its beauty to be embraced by the listener. I never tire of her voice and the way she works that magic. Mi Mancherai is a song that provides that deep sentiment that Jackie seems born to emote.

Je t'aime from Awakening with English lyrics. The script is more legible in full screen.

I can envision a live duet of Imaginer and Broken Vow with Lara Fabian on stage. It would be a wonderful collaboration in recognition of Lara's songwriting and her gift to Jackie. I haven't heard of anyone covering Imaginer. Jackie owns it. There couldn't be a more fitting duet for both of them. And, I'm sure Lara would not overpower Jackie, but they would compliment each other vocally for the sake of making beautiful music, as Jackie now sings Imaginer with more maturity and finesse.
What would you think of that, Willyiam? A nice compromise?

I don't think those two would match up well together. Lara would over power Jackie because she is just too big of a belter imho.

I don't think those two would match up well together. Lara would over power Jackie because she is just too big of a belter imho. You speak as though you assume Lara has no control of her vocal dynamics or that she would have no regard for Jackie but to dominate a duet with her. Lara is an artist, as is Jackie, who's interest is in presenting a song in the most appealing way possible with respect for the music and for her duet partner's talent and capabilities, "partner" being the key word. Just as Jackie has always complimented her duet partners with her performances, I have no doubt that Lara would be just as complimentary toward Jackie in presenting an "Imaginer/Broken Vow" duet with class. It's called artistic integrity. Great music is not all about power, but interpretation, control and finesse. Both Lara and Jackie are masterful in that regard.

Jackie could memorize and sing the Italian lyrics for a nearly 4 minute song at this age and not miss a word, while expressing a naive but genuine interpretation of emotions. She hits the high notes almost effortlessly. Notice the delicacy of her hand movements, holding the mic gently with her fingertips, nervously changing positions and touching her neck and chest with a childish gracefulness. That's how she releases the energy, except the last note when it is focused upon sustaining the pitch. Remember her characteristic fidgeting with her dresses? This apparently spontaneous performance is brilliance revealed before our eyes. I always feel any attempt to describe it is inadequate; not because it's beyond description but beyond my ability to iterate it.

This performance of Caruso on piano gives one a chance to focus upon the English lyrics which tell the story of Caruso as portrayed by Lucio Dalla in his song (1986), and to compare them with the Italian lyrics below.
"The song simply tells about the pain and longings of a man who is about to die while he is looking into the eyes of a girl who was very dear to him. The lyrics contain various subtle references to people and places in Caruso's life." -Wikipedia
When I read the Italian lyrics by Josh Groban, I'm amazed that Jackie can memorize and sing them so efficiently not otherwise being fluent in the language. Even at age 10 she had that talent for foreign lyrics. But much of Caruso must be sung quickly, which is more astounding to me. Her performance follows. Much of the third part of the main lyrics is omitted, beginning with Potenza, and also the last two lines.
"Caruso" Lyrics

I couldn't find a category for this so I put it here. Glennis Grace sings it in the Dutch language but it's a very good pop song. With the English translation Jackie could make a big hit with this one I believe;

Catmando,
Just a thought. Since this thread is for Jackie's songs in foreign languages, maybe it should be with your other Glennis Grace videos for discussion. Anyway, that's were I would expect to see it.

To my knowledge, The Prayer is the latest song Jackie sang, in part, in a foreign language along with Caruso and A Thousand Years. All three were performed on the Varela PBS special on December 31, 2016 which aired in early March of 2017, a few weeks before the release of Two Hearts.
This is my favorite of Jackie's duets of the Prayer. It's the only one, I believe, in which she sang part of the lyrics in Italian. A great performance by both of them, accompanied by Caroline Campbell and William Joseph.
