Nice effort by a nervous young lady. I've been searching for a while, somewhat surprised not to have found more covers of Imaginer, particularly by professional singers. Maybe they don't want to cover a song recorded by "a kid". Even this girl doesn't acknowledge Jackie (unintentionally I'm sure).
"14 yr old Vicki sings the beautiful "Imaginer" which is the French version of Josh Groban's "Broken Vow" This was performed at the 4th "Singing For Lakelands" concert on the 18th of October 2015"

The kid did a good job singing it.

Me Released: 2011 Genre: Easy listening It is set to the score from "Broken Vow", also by Lara Fabian / Walter Afanasieff , but it is a completely different song.

Rob, As I understand it, "Imaginer" falls within the criteria of an original, because the Lyrics and meaning of the song are entirely different from "Broken Vow", as you say. It is not a translation of Broken Vow to French, as may be assumed. Furthermore, Lara Fabian has never recorded Imaginer as an original, therefore any recording or performance by another artist is a COVER of Jackie's recording and should be acknowledged as such. Although, I assume Lara would receive royalties for Imaginer as co-songwriter. cleonard's post of Aug. 19 above is acknowledged as a "cover" of Jackie's recording by the singer, Wendy.
"Imaginer" (to imagine) is a French-language song first performed and recorded by American singer Jackie Evancho in 2011. The song uses the music from a 1999 English-language song, "Broken Vow", by Walter Afanasieff and Lara Fabian. The same songwriters wrote the new French lyrics for Evancho, who recorded it on her 2011 gold album Dream With Me, which was recorded when Evancho was 10 years old. -Wikipedia
This is a very nice cover of Imaginer on dailymotion (with ads), but in my opinion is misrepresented as a cover, because Jackie is not acknowledged.

Jackie did record an original song written with her in mind, but if Jackie just paid royalties to the songwriters rather than buy the copyright, it's not her song, and anyone else who records it is technically covering Laura's song, not Jackie's, and they would also pay royalties to the songwriters, not Jackie. That's why so many artists hire songwriters but they contribute to the writing, even if their contribution is minimal, because then they're co-writers and will receive some of the royalties if someone else covers the song.

Understood. But we don't know if Jackie paid royalties or bought the copyright to Imaginer. Therefore, it is left to one's understanding of what a "cover" is with regard to Imaginer. Here is the explanation given by Wikipedia; "In popular music, a cover version, cover song, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by someone other than the original artist or composer of a previously recorded, commercially released song." By this definition Jackie would, in my opinion, be considered the "original artist". Also, even though Lara composed the score and wrote the lyrics for Imaginer, it was a "previously recorded, commercially released song" by Jackie. Broken Vow and Imaginer are not interchangeable titles for a song written in different languages with entirely different lyrics, subject matter and meanings. Lara did not record Imaginer and is therefore not the original artist. Any cover of Imaginer by that title should therefore acknowledge Jackie as the artist -Imaginer (Jackie Evancho) Cover by Jane Doe. -Broken Vow (Lara Fabian) Cover by Jane Doe. Just my personal view

The songwriter is the one who should be getting the credit for the song, not the person who sings it. I think many fans overlook those sort of things at times. However, anon, I obviously agree with you, if JE was the co-writer or obviously wrote it herself, it would be a totally different kettle of fish.

Jackie is the first and only artist to have recorded Imaginer commercially and performed it professionally (DWMIC). No recording artist other than Jackie could have been the inspiration for having covered Imaginer, not even Josh Groban who did record Broken Vow. I guess it would be up to the discretion of the cover singer whether to acknowledge Jackie as the artist or not. Consider all the covers of songs Jackie has recorded that are not original acknowledging her as the artist of inspiration - All Of The Stars cover by Jennifer Steel above, for example. We would presume that the two cover singers above found the composition co-written by Lara but had never heard Jackie's recording, and were therefore inspired only by the title, the score, the subject or French lyrics (Although, the recording artist is generally indicated or known). That's perfectly appropriate.
But, one should not automatically assume that Jackie doesn't deserve acknowledgement for Imaginer. When she IS acknowledged, as by Wendy in her cover for example, that shouldn't be assumed NOT appropriate. It's a matter of whether one wants to credit Jackie with Imaginer or not. Just my opinion.

I recall seeing this video in the past on another thread, but it is also appropriate here as a cover of Jackie's Original recording for the TROY equestrian extravaganza in Beijing, China where she also performed the song at its promotional event.

I don't particularly care for this man's voice, but he does an excellent cover, on pitch and with the sensitivity Jackie expresses, a rendition true to Jackie's interpretation with his own back-up vocals.

"Hey guys!!! I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back, but I wanted to make this song extra challenging by performing it accapella. This was very challenging for me because there was no background music and I haven't done a song accapella by myself before so this was very special for me. Not only does this song spread the word for following your dreams no matter what, it also tells you to live your life always to the fullest. Thank you again everyone!"
