This is a video of the screen behind the stage while we were waiting for Jackie to appear.

I remember in the past that some fans were suggesting that Jackie be accompanied by only a single instrument. The concert in Redondo and Napa seemed to show that Jackie has decided to follow that suggestion.

I remember in the past that some fans were suggesting that Jackie be accompanied by only a single instrument. The concert in Redondo and Napa seemed to show that Jackie has decided to follow that suggestion. I think the low ticket sales for this weekend's concerts probably determined that. Peter works hard to provide all the music to support Jackie, even backing vocals. If I can't sit in the center, then I prefer Peter's side of the stage. Fun to watch. He utilizes a grand piano, a small keyboard set on top, and a laptop. At this concert the thunder sound at the end of Lovers was great. Where the strings are missed the most is My Heart Will Go On. We don't get that solo violin intro.

As it hasn't been mentioned i will elaborate. This theater had a lower section and an upper section. After as many came forward as there were seats for the upper section was about a quarter full so this wasn't a sell out show but i wasn't a flop either. The same was true for Redondo Beach, much to my surprise.

The same was true for Redondo Beach, much to my surprise. There was a big line at the ticket window before the concert of people picking up tickets at will call. It could be that people waited to buy tickets. I hope they paid for them and they weren't given away as they were at Phoenix '15. I gave away my two extra tickets to a couple that was sitting halfway back in the loge section. It was their first Jackie concert and they were happy to move up to RowB. I assume they bought their original tickets. I believe they would have mentioned it if they had acquired them some other way.

It's been a week and half, but I still wanted to write about the Napa concert. Just been busy with work. I work a lot of hours, but that's what pays for the concerts, so I just suck it up.
This concert was the same set list as Redondo Beach, but overall a slightly better concert. This theater sounded better and was a cooler venue. The old historic theaters are my favorite venues. Someone may have mentioned it, but the pre-concert slide show was updated with newer pictures. It's possible there were some I just hadn't noticed before, like the one with Tom Cruise. They added one of Jackie in the red Marilyn Monroe type dress that gave her problems Thanksgiving weekend. Peter asked the people in back to move down to closer seats, as the promoter had done at the Redondo Beach concert. Jackie didn't dedicate Impossible Dream to her mother, as she'd done in the past. I wouldn't read too much into this. She used to do that before the song. Now it's her opening number, so she enters the stage during Peters intro. I wasn't real big on the medley when she first added it to her show, but I enjoy it more now. It seems to me that she sings more of OMBC than before, but I could be wrong. Jackie introduced each song with a little historical comment. But Peter introduced WYWUAS by saying it won an Academy Award even though sung by a cricket. Before The Prayer, Jackie mentioned David Foster, her musical dad, letting us know that they go back to before she was on AGT, to when she was on one of his talent shows.
Before Peter's first solo number, Overture from The Marriage of Figaro, he mentioned that he'd performed in Napa several years ago with his former band, East Villager Opera Company. He named the venue and asked the audience if it was still there. He also mentioned a restaurant where he had Beer Can Chicken. I've had that before; it's pretty good. For those that haven't heard Peter's version of this Mozart piece, he samples the organ part from The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again. I wonder if there is a version on Youtube, as there is for John Mario's Bohemian Rhapsody.
I don't know why Over the Rainbow doesn't generate more enthusiasm, particularly considering the age of most of Jackie's fans. I love hearing Jackie singing the lines that we don't hear in the Judy Garland movie version. Jackie may have done this at Redondo Beach, too; but here she definitely prefaced All of the Stars with a tribute to Juliet, again calling Juliet courageous. She used to do that before We've Only Just Begun, but now she uses that song to talk about how her life is changing and telling the audience about buying the apartment in NYC and moving there with Juliet. Jackie also mentioned that she's into some contemporary artists such as Ed Sheeran, the writer of AOTS. I'm pleased that Jackie has added AOTS to the set list. It's my favorite of all the songs for which she made videos, followed closely by Writing's On the Wall. What more can be said about Music of the Night? I don't believe the song is over five minutes long, but it takes me on a long magical journey every time I hear it. It's Jackie's Stairway to Heaven.
Shame on me, but I was already taking Caruso for granted. Jackie sang it a lot on TV and I have versions of Bocelli and Lara Fabian. But I realized again what a great song it is and how Jackie has mastered it. The first time she sings the chorus "Te voglio bene assaje ...Ma tanto tanto bene sai", it just gets to me. How Great Thou Art is a real crowd-pleaser and had everyone on their feet. Vincent was even better. Had me in tears. It's obvious that Jackie finds greater meaning in the lyrics, now that she is older, and identifies with the subject. She just had my heart in the palm of her hand for that one. I gave a one-man standing "O". Maybe others will come around at the next concert. Jackie obviously has made a conscious choice to bring back this gem from PTAD. Peter's accompaniment is very subtle, almost minimalist, just letting Jackie sing the beautiful poetry.
Can't wait for Jackie's next California two-fer in February. Believe it or not, Redondo Beach and Napa were the first concerts of Jackie's I've attended in the summer.

Mike. I know about the one in Modesto but where is the other one? I must have missed it. Cerritos again. The day before Modesto.
