Some interesting candor in the article: "My dad (Michael) has become my co-manager, and my mom (Lisa), who really got me to where I am, helps guide me," Evancho said. "I honestly believe it's a family company, and I couldn't do it any other way." and "It seems almost scary to think about going back (to her high school) because of the people that are going to be there," said Evancho, who decided she wouldn't walk with her graduating class because she wanted to be neither a victim nor a distraction. "It's a combination of so many different things," she said of commencement in particular and high school in general no longer being in her comfort zone. "There are people who want to make fun of me for my sister, or for singing at the inauguration. And I think a lot of kids just assumed I was stuck up or something." and Though Evancho is a self-taught pianist and guitarist — and uses both instruments when she's writing her own songs — she plays neither in her shows. "I tried playing piano and singing on stage," she said with a laugh, "but I get the two things mixed up. It's better if I just sing." Audiences might — or might not — hear a Jackie Evancho original or two, depending on the feel of a particular show. Recording her songs and playing them live are two very different things, she said. "I'm really funny about my own songs," she said quietly. "It's hard to do them live and make them sound the way I want them to sound." ----------- I think those who want one or more of those things to be/have been different, will just have to deal with it that they'll be how they'll be unless she chooses to change them.

Jackie kept saying this is "the family business", and there was never any evidence that her consideration would change, only conjecture and wishful thinking. Jackie is now responsible for her career and her music choices. She has my support and encouragement. The Bremerton concert is the beginning of something new, that being 7 engagements in the western states within ten days.

As some of you in here might recall, I have some very strong opinions on what sort of responsibility a kid should possibly have in supporting a family. However, this is all moot now because she is now 18. When it comes to her career, she is clearly now calling the shots. Things seem to be looking up for her, and that is all that counts. :-)

Finally catching up on reviews of a few of Jackie's recent West Coast concerts! 😀
Jackie's 06/02/18 Bremerton, WA concert!
Jackie opened her West Coast concert tour at the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton, WA with an absolutely brilliant performance before a sold-out house of 800 adoring fans. The Admiral was built in 1942, as a typical movie house, was renovated in 1997, and now serves as a dinner theatre type of venue, hosting a variety of top performances throughout the year. The main floor is comprised of 4 seat dinner tables, while the loge is standard seating. Jackie remarked that it was quite a different experience to walk out onto the stage and to see individual tables instead of rows of seats before her. With a seat at the second table back, center stage, I was blessed to be in a prime location to enjoy the concert.
Following the recent full orchestra accompaniment at Dayton, this concert returned to the format of music director Peter Kiesewalter at the piano, along with 8 strings composed of 4 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos. The acoustics and the stage lighting were both excellent, with a nice added feature of special lighting emanating from the edge of piano, which radiateded across the rear of the stage. It was especially effective when this light turned into a strobe during portions of Peter's orchestral interludes.
A few additional comments and observations:
- Jackie confirmed that she is currently working on a new album. No expected release date was given.
- Dresses:
> 1st set - Basic black, full length gown w/ red floral pattern.
> 2nd set - Dazzling gold, full length gown, which brought out the usual "ooh's" and "awes'!
- Jackie provided touching dedications of "Starry Starry Night" to her Mom and "How Great Thou Art" to her Great Grandmother.
- A few of those sharing my table were Jackie concert newbies, and spent most of the concert wiping tears from their eyes. (We've all been there, right?)
1st Set Song List:
- Lovers
- The Way We Were
- Think of Me
- Medley
> O Mio Babbino Caro
> Con te partiro
> Somewhere
> When You Wish Upon a Star
> The Prayer
- Peter Kiesewalter Orchestral piece:
> Overture from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro"
- Imaginer
- Somewhere Over the Rainbow
- All of the Stars
- The Impossible Dream
2nd Set Song List:
- Set Me Free
- Safe and Sound
- Fix You
- Your Love
- Peter Kiesewalter Orchestral piece:
> Interlude from Bizet's "Carmen"
- How Great Thou Art
- Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
- Starry Starry Night (Vincent)
- Music of the Night
Encore:
- Nessun Dorma
In conclusion, this was another breathtakingly beautiful concert, as we have all come to know, and expect, from Jackie.
