My favorite OMF NPR tiny desk
At 11 years old already had 'THE ZONE' Great camera work to catch the emotion she emotes with her whole body but especially the face and eyes!
This was recorded at NPR Tiny Desk on 5-23-2011. Her Dream With Me album was released about three weeks later on June 14th, 2011. (My birthday!) Ombra mai fu was video and then only MP3 for Lovers and Angel. These are the comments at that time.
Bob Boilen, NPR's music critic says,
I simply couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Seeing Jackie Evancho sing for the first time is nearly beyond belief. You've seen 11-year-olds, and you've heard beyond-beautiful singers. But rarely are they the same person — that is, until now. Evancho is an American singer of classical crossover material who performs show tunes, classical repertoire such as "Ave Maria" or Handel's "Ombra mai fu" or even a pop tune like Sarah McLachlan's "Angel." The world first heard her when she appeared on the reality show competition America's Got Talent, where she came in second place, yet wowed audiences with a powerful, mature voice that seemed nearly impossible to be coming out of such a tiny frame. She was inspired to sing after watching The Phantom of the Opera, and by age 8, she started entering contests. She put out an independent album in 2009 and released a holiday CD for Columbia Records. But it's her new collection of songs called Dream With Me (out June 14) that will bring her into the spotlight. The album includes appearances from Barbra Streisand and fellow TV singing sensation Susan Boyle, and is sure to impress fans of both. That record includes "Ombra mai fu," an aria Evancho performed at the Tiny Desk for a stunned audience at the NPR Music offices. She clearly is a very happy girl with an amazing musical gift. Enjoy.
Lovers and Angel can be downloaded in MP3 format. She is absolutely amazing!!!

When I first saw that, I realized that Jackie could sing country or folk music, if she wanted. Same with Blank Space. She sounds more country than Taylor Swift.

My favorite OMF NPR tiny desk
At 11 years old already had 'THE ZONE' Great camera work to catch the emotion she emotes with her whole body but especially the face and eyes! When Jackie was still little I used to send this video to people to freak them out. I told a friend at that time that the Jackie Evancho phenomenon was not only wonderful, but also hilarious. I mean, just look at her in this video. It's like they pulled her out of school for this. To me, she always looked like some nice little girl that you wouldn't mind coming over to your house to play with your kids. Then...that first note. I was surprised she kept OMF in the set list and not OMBC at the beginning of the Awakening tour, but enjoyed it very much. I hope she has some classical songs on the new album.

Re: OMF Other singers make people cry when they sing sad songs. Jackie makes people cry when she sings about a tree. In Latin. Edit: After seeing Jackie at this Tiny Desk Concert, Bob Boilen, NPR's music critic, wrote, "I simply couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Seeing Jackie Evancho sing for the first time is nearly beyond belief." He called her voice "beyond-beautiful" when she performed "for a stunned audience at the NPR Music offices. She clearly is a very happy girl with an amazing musical gift." (Source: Wiki)

I just finished listing to Jackie's "Danny Boy". I still marvel at the feeling she was able to express when singing that classic. The fact that she was only 10 when she recorded DB makes it more incredible. My wish is that she would consider singing it again especially in concerts in Boston or any city with a significant Irish population. I don:t know if she can recreate that song.

Lisa always said that Jackie hated the song, but that was Lisa, & she has her own strong opinions about things. I always imagine Jackie finally doing a worldwide tour, singing in Ireland (or elsewhere in the UK) & doing the song again. There wouldn't be a dry eye in the house. Edit: You have a song that's more than a century old, beloved by millions, recorded by thousands of singers, & along comes a 10 year old American girl who sings perhaps the most beautiful version ever. How can it possibly be?

Actually, Jackie apparently really did dislike the song Danny Boy. IIRC according to Lisa, apparently D Foster wanted her to sing it in a particular way and had Jackie sing it many many times to get it the way he wanted. I think, imo, at her age she was probably too polite and deferential to complain or say anything at the time to DF. After DWM was released and later in 2011, Lisa responded on Proboards to fans wanting Jackie to sing it in concert by saying something like Jackie would have to be put in a straitjacket if she ever had to sing it again. Jackie was sick of it and apparently considered it to be too sad and melancholy (my recollection). There was a reason it was not on the album. I doubt she will ever sing it again based on this history.

I've never cared much for Danny Boy, going back to when I was a kid and my grandfather making a big deal about it. If it's to be a melancholy Irish song, I'd much rather Jackie had another go at Carrickfergus.

Jackie's feelings could have changed in the meantime, or may yet change in the future. What seemed overly melancholic at 10 might seem very different at 20. Who knows? "Never" is a long time. OTOH, I also love Carrickfergus...

I hope Jackie dives into Sarah Brightman's music more deeply as she matures...

Found this on youtube tonight. Top Ten Jackie songs down through the years(according to the uploader that is...) The Yara's Wedding song I found strange on this list but I don't like it anyway. Oh well;

We should also add "Caruso" based on Tyler, TX Concert.

Was Spirit of America actually a full performance? Caruso was, but IDK about the other. Hopefully it'll be on the new album.
