It will be interesting to see if Jackie changes up the set list or anything else from last night.

This is my review of the Merrilville Indiana concert. I have to be careful what I say and how I say it. I don't want to make any enemies, but I have to be honest. Here goes.
I got there three hours early and sat in my car for two 1/2 hours before I went in. There was no outside marquee with Jackie's name on it. If I hadn't known she was there I would have thought the place was closed.
Attendance was dismal. I doubt if there were 300 people there. The whole right section of the auditorium was almost empty from the stage to the back. I counted 10 people sitting in that whole section. The crowd was mostly older people. I saw a few kids and young people, but I would say most were my age and older.
Kent sat in front of me just as he did in Kalamazoo with Shawn. I saw Len Rouche and Agog so there were a few people there I knew. The girl who had her picture taken with Jackie and Maggie sat in the row in front of me about four seats over. I was in the third row center stage. Jackie was right in front of me. I coudn't have had a better seat.
Jackie had her own sound man, Mark, and she thanked him at the end. I thought the sound was a little too loud for such a small auditorium. It was a good sound system and handled Jackie's highs with no problem.
Jackie came out wearing the black dress she wore in Winnipeg. If you look at this dress in pictures it looks like Jackie's top is mostly bare with just bands of fabric in the appropriate places. In fact the top of the dress is a flesh colored material and no skin was exposed. Her second dress was a white dress that went down to mid thigh. It was covered in sequins or something and just sparkled.
Jackie started out with Pure Imagination. Then she sang some songs from Awakening including two of my favorites, Memories and Take Me There. She sang Music Of The Night. She did a medley of about six songs. Jackie didn't dedicate Impossible Dream to Lisa this time, but she did dedicate What A Wonderful World to her Dad.
People know the things I've said about Peter Keiswalter and the backing tracks in the past. I take it all back. Peter was excellent as were his two solos. My only beef with him is that after being with Jackie for two years he mispronounces her last name. He pronounces it avonko.
Jackie was in fine voice. I've never heard her sound better. Her lows were full and her highs were crystal clear just like the old days. Jackie was very chatty last night. She introduced almost every song sometimes extensively. She said her new album is coming out in the spring and the original song she sang will be on it.
I am especially pleased because I got to hear Jackie sing Con Te Partiro, Nessun Dorma, and The Prayer live. They were exquisite. I was further pleased that there was no annoying video screen. I enjoyed this concert every bit as much as I enjoyed Detroit and Kalamazoo.
If you have never seen Jackie live you just have to do it. This was an excellent show and she was at her very best.

Thanks for the review Rick. I am gladdened to hear that you enjoyed it. I'm still waiting to attend my first Jackie concert, so hearing honest reports such as yours are the next best thing. Maybe she will come to Australia one day, when the time is right, or the marketing is improved, or more people discover what they are missing.. I will have to wait, but it is pleasing to keep involved as best I can.

Rick, thank you for your review! Like you, I have been bothered recently by Jackie's backing track, "beefed up" so to speak by a handful of strings; it's hard to know who was doing what and how much any of it contributed to the overall performance!? The current arrangement you, agog (Paul), and others describe reminds me of the wishes expressed on Amazon back in the old days that she would sing a Capella with no backup at all so that her own pure tones could be savored. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Jackie talked about how she sang a song with Sarah Brightman on AGT and then with Bocelli. Then she sang Con Te Partiro. It wasn't Time To Say Good-Bye it was Con Te Partiro. She did not sing All I Ask Of You. Her encore was The Lord's Prayer. After Jackie sang Memories she sang Take Me There.
As to attendance. I couldn't see the mezzanine and have no idea if anyone was even up there. I'm guessing about 300 on the main floor. It must have been disheartening for Jackie to look out and see all of those empty seats.

jamesn, my thoughts are that any singer sounds better with music behind them.

Great review Rick. I thought your review was very objective knowing that you never approved of the "Karaoki" band.
Edit: I noticed that you mentioned ND in your review. Did she sing it straight or with the high note that you didn't particularly care for?
