I guess you are right. I just do not have a natural affinity to pop.

I seem to remember that someone -- don't think he is on this forum (yet?) did a really nifty "reggae" type version of "Blank Space," substituting the reggae beat and background for the guitar accompaniment to Jackie's singing. It was quite good, actually, and I found myself preferring that version to the original! That said, I also do like Jackie singing it with just Nick's guitar in accompaniment, too. Is it one of my favorite Jackie songs? No, but I do find it an enjoyable change of pace, just as I do "Go Time!".

I recall he might have posted the reggae version, but did he put it together, or just post someone else's work? He's very talented musically & used to post a bunch of great stuff on the old PBs forum.

Blank Space is my favorite of Jackie's pop songs; but that's because it is the only one of them I've heard at a concert--Las Vegas. Jackie did it as a second encore, after The Lord's Prayer, which is an odd juxtaposition when you think about it. The others follow in this order of preference: AOTS, WOTW, S&S, Apocalypse, Coming Home and Go Time. AOTS sounds pretty much like Jackie's earlier work. I much prefer the pop style of WOTW to that of Apocalypse. Go Time I just never liked. I prefer Jackie's classical voice to her pop voice. You just can't compare any of the pop songs to Nessun Dorma or the Vavilov Ave Maria. I'm OK with Jackie doing pop to broaden her artistic experience. If it's mainly to get a young audience, I say don't bother. Jackie is not the type of singer that appeals to a lot of young people. She has always had young fans, but the type of young people that are in choir, glee or orchestra, not the ones that can't wait to get their fake I.D.s and go clubbing. Even if Jackie caught on with young people, they would move on in a year or two, anyway. They're never going to attend Jackie's concerts in great numbers. Better to target people in their 30s and 40s if they're really sick of seeing us gray-haired people.
Jackie is unique and it makes sense to wish her not confined to CC. I would prefer, though, to see Jackie experiment with more esoteric genres than pop. No platinum records would come of that, but perhaps some work that was really original and creative, avant-garde even. Jackie has probably not been exposed to styles too far out of the mainstream, due to her young age. That's why I like the idea of her going to college in NYC. A lot of creative people there.

Yes! Luta from Germany! I could not for the life of me recall his user name, which was frustrating. I do believe that he is the one who put together the reggae accompaniment with Jackie's vocals; he is quite knowledgeable with regard to music -- some of his posts I really could not quite grasp because of the complexity of the topic he was discussing, but I greatly appreciated his knowledge and his willingness to share with people on the forum. If anyone has a way of getting in touch with him, do let him know that this forum is out here now.....

I don't recall seeing him on any of the FaceBook sites, but I spend very little time there. I still don't "get" FaceBook! May have to keep looking... Or maybe he's on Ana's site, or the CC-UK site...

I was amazed when Jackie said she had never heard of Summertime from Porgy and Bess.

I was amazed when Jackie said she had never heard of Summertime from Porgy and Bess.Me too. But maybe it's one of those things where if she heard the song, she'd say "Oh, that song!" or something. Maybe she just doesn't know anything about P&B, even though she's at least somewhat interested in musical theater (although some insist P&B is actually an opera, LOL). She's still young, you know, when knowledge can be very spotty.

Oh, that is NEAT! One can really appreciate the beauty of Jackie's voice here with just the simple piano accompaniment -- wow! Thanks, PA!

I think Jackie sounds at her best with just a simple violin, piano or guitar.

I seem to remember a long time ago PA doing something with what is often called "center tracks," and, yes, that is pretty much what you've mentioned here, mbusby1...... Whatever he did, I really like this version of "Se" with just Jackie and a piano!

I suspect that you're quite right about this and that it's simply a matter of Jackie not being familiar with the song or the more-or-less contemporary opera from which it originates. Sooner or later she'll hear "Summertime" .....and maybe if we are lucky, she'll decide to go ahead and sing/record it herself!

If I remember correctly, he took the center channel of the MOTM live DVD (the DVD uses surround sound), which contains only Jackie's voice and combined it with a piano track. Yes, IIRC this was not popular with a member of TeamE (who will remain nameless but whose initials are LE - LOL). She didn't seem to like the sound. Of note: sometimes when PA posts those on Amzn, they're available only for limited times, 24 hours or less (& maybe limited #s too). So grab 'em while you can...

Do you like Jackie's classical voice better, her pop voice better, or do you like both equally? Nothing can compare with Jackie's classical voice. It's what initially drew me to her. But, she is only 16 and, with a lifetime of singing ahead of her, I'm OK with her experimenting and trying different genres, as long as when the dust settles, she comes back to her roots. JMO ☺♪♫ That is one opinion indeed , What are her roots ? she sang Country at 8 very well an pop at 9 on a album selling for thousands of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ , if she wants the $$$$$$$$$$$ she will sing where the $$$$$$$$$$$ is when over 18 years old
