Admin:
Another request for a spelling correction in the thread title (sic-Keen) as it is Kean Idol.
Incidentally, Kean Quest announced a few weeks ago there would be no contest this year. It is temporarily suspended. No reason was given. It was after Jackie announced her inauguration appearance.

Hello, my first time post. I was in a couple of the previous Proboards with this same screen name. Thought I would throw in my 2 cents, as Jackie's history has always interested me. Regarding the first Kean Idol post (first Jackie video ever) it seems it was recorded by the sponsor. The camera is rock steady, and the venue owner's (Saint Barnabas) stylized bell tower caption appears about 40 seconds in. It may have gotten so blurry when Lisa transferred it to YouTube. I have never heard of any other 2008 videos. In the past these yearly dvd's were sold to participants and others, always of the finale only (that I have seen.) I agree with others, the other video showing Jackie trying to raise the mike is 2009, not 2008 as labelled. Definitely Lisa-filmed, it has her trademark "shakeycam" appearance. Too bad there is no more videos of her 2008 performance. I am sure there are several preliminary contest rounds each year (a total of 4, perhaps?). These photos indicate earlier rounds (because different dresses), probably 2008 or 2009: Don (edited - can only post one photo - guess it won't take .png) With Mike and Lisa, 2008 because she is so tiny. I have another one with her tiny siblings. i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/don78710/Catchall%20for%20Jackie%20Evancho/2009%20may%20be%202008%20-13%20Dad%20Jan%20Palko%20or%20Lisa_zpsl9pbzxcr.png~originalNot sure, 2008 or 2009? Was on her PTAD photographer's site, can't remember his name. i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/don78710/Catchall%20for%20Jackie%20Evancho/2009-13_zps9erotfml.png~originalI'd guess 2009

Jackie has been #2 quite a lot, but it hasn't stopped her... She even sang about all of her silver medals a few years later and that they would not stop her career:
"Sail on silver girl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine"

A comment from Gary Smith on Jackie's Facebook Page to this Video: The 16yo High School Jr is approaching a decade on stage "Are you for real?"

Does any one have a video of her singing Wishing some how you were here again as an older child? Actually, there are at least 4 on you tube. There is one that Lisa had recorded in a studio after Jackie had some lessons and put it up with still slide catalog pictures only. She did the same with Memory and Ave Maria. Jackie was still 8. These 3 are on the official Jackie you tube site under the pre AGT playlist. The Highmark concert version from Dec. 2009 is also on Jackie's site. There are two others with one being from the Fort Lauderdale concert of 2015 and the other being from an unknown concert when Jackie was also older. If you are looking for unknown others, Jackie did sing it at a few concerts. Unfortunately, Williyam left this site and apparently deleted his set lists from the concerts also.

I think Don is absolutely correct. This is probably an official video by Kean Idol. I did not attach enough significance to the official looking caption. I do remember thinking the caption was probably pretty sophisticated for Lisa to do. I also remember Lisa stating long ago something to the effect that she had been under the impression that the performances were being recorded and would be available on a disc and that she was mistaken about that. She also said they were told they should not record performances. I assumed that she violated the request and recorded the finals. I appear to have have been wrong. Lisa may have and probably meant all performance rounds were not going to be available on a disc.. Don is an early Jackie fan and has better documented early Jackie history than I do. I was unaware that Kean Idol had made discs available of the finals in earlier years. I am pretty sure the grandparents did not record it as Bill said in an interview from that time that he wished they had a recording of it. I thought that was a strange comment then that he said that since there was a recording of it. He probably meant that he would like to have had a private copy. All of these tidbits now indicate to me that Don is correct. My interest is to get the early Jackie history as correct as possible. As I have said before, it often takes multiple inputs from different people to get Jackie's history correct. Kudos to Don.

Regarding the 2008 Kean Idol contest, there was an old article about the first song Jackie learned which was Think of Me from the movie POTO sung by Emmy Rossum. She stated that this was the song she sang in her first appearance at the 2008 Kean Idol contest before WYWSHA. She related how she noticed while singing Think of Me that the audience was giving bewildered looks at each other like "what is happening" and, when she finished, she got a loud standing ovation.
In my earlier posts, I failed to mention that while Jackie finished second in the judge's voting, she actually won the audience choice award. I don't know how that vote was taken. Lisa, in later posted comments, somewhat downplayed that vote by kind of jokingly saying something to the effect that the audience choice award went to the person with the most family and friends present in the audience. Perhaps she was trying to make sure Jackie didn't get too carried away with her accomplishment. In the famous Eden Hall School video showing their support for Jackie during AGT, her longtime close friend and then neighbor stated that after the Kean Idol contest, Jackie came over and was happy saying she had "won a competition". That was important for Jackie and, along with the experience and audience reactions, got her started on an amazing journey.

After some off and on searches, I finally tracked down the virtual duet of Jackie singing WYWSHA from Kean Idol intertwined with the famous original 1986 Sarah Brightman music video in the cemetary (still on YouTube). As mentioned in my Dec. 16 post on the previous page, Jackie and Lisa probably based Jackie's Kean Idol costume and performance on that video.
The virtual duet video is very obscure and was apparently made by niggleodeon and was posted Nov. 17, 2010. It only has 3542 views on youtube. Five percent may be mine. The title is Phantom Duet and URL v=3ng_VAdOJ2o (I hope I got it right). I think no reference was made to Sarah B or Jackie in the title because the Brightman team was very vigilant in taking down unofficial videos over the years. I don't want this one to get undue PR and get taken down. You can type in niggleodeon and get his youtube site. Go to his Jackie playlist and it is one of 14 videos, including some of his Jackie tribute videos, or use the URL.

waldschratt and jefan08, I didn't know this video was of Jackie's second appearance. If I had been told, I would have assumed her appearance with Debra Crosby (you know, the ruined mascara video) was the first. Am I confusing two different talent shows? Anyway... the reason I decided to post here is to say Lisa should have been aware that people would like well shot videos of Jackie's performances. I have attended about a dozen concerts and would have signed up at each one to have a recording of the concert I just attended. I would have bought another thirty or so (just to put some number on it) proper videos of notable concerts and appearances. It's great that Papasmurfdad shot the video of Jackie's first ever professional concert at that church in Houston. We're lucky too that Lisa relented and withdrew her objection to Psd's posting it. Yes, they were separate appearances at two different talent shows. Debra Crosby was in Massachusetts and had her own show. She was not associated with Kean Idol. Actually, the story I remember hearing was that there were two earlier preliminary rounds of the 2008 Kean Idol for kids and Jackie sang "Think of Me" at both with neither apparently being recorded. I have no way of knowing if that is actually correct. The paternal grandparents were invited to the earlier performances but apparently did not attend. After each one, they asked how Jackie did and when told she made the finals, they did attend. They do have a lot of grandkids and probably didn't go to all of their invitatations. The date of the finals was always known to be very close to Jackie's birthday. A few years later in an interview, Jackie said the finals were actually on her birthday, April 9, 2008. A news story was written afterwards quoting the grandparents as saying something to the effect, they both, after about 15 seconds in, looked at each other kind of stunned with "like what's going on here". I believe it was Lisa that made a comment something like that the judges had earlier said that the performances would be judged on more than just singing and also on the presentation and the total performance act. Apparently Lisa and Jackie came up with the act and made the little red outfit she wore, perhaps with grandma Linda's sewing help. Lisa said something like Jackie worked very hard practicing for the finals. As most of you probably know, the performance was probably based on the Sarah Brightman original music video from about 30 years ago where Sarah is in the cemetary at her father's grave. Someone actually made a virtual duet out of those two performances intertwined and put it on you tube. It may still be up. Another you tube video copy of Jackie's performance was up for a while and had a ton of comments. One was from another contestant that day named Jaden about 16 years old, iirc, who stated that she was playing with Jackie backstage. She said Jackie was very nervous but was being totally silly having fun. Another comment was from a gentleman who said he attended because a friend's daughter was performing. He stated something like Jackie's performance stunned the entire audience and afterwards everyone was talking about the little girl's amazing performànce. He stated everyone there knew she would be a star someday. The applause at the end said it all. Don's Aug. 17,2017 first post in the Jackie Historical Thread he started lists numerous links to early articles about Jackie pre-AGT lists one from Reverbnation (wayback machine) June 17, 2009 Archived version of Reverbnation, "web.archive.org/web/20090617210702/https://www.reverbnation.com/jackieevancho". The article confirms that Jackie sang "Think of Me" twice, once in the first round and again in the semifinals. I did remember reading that but I didn't remember where. So the above comment I made was correct. The article also states that Lisa bought the newly released "Phantom of the Opera" DVD in Jan. 2008 and found out about the local talent contest Kean Idol starting in March 2008. I always thought that the dvd was bought by Lisa in late 2007 or very early 2008. The article confirms that time. The dvd enabled Jackie to learn all the POTO songs by mimicing Emmy Rossum. As the article says, the kids quickly wore the dvd out. Don has listed a treasure trove of links regarding early Jackie music history. Anyone interested in this amazing and fascinating story of early Jackie singing should go through the link list. Kudos to him. Thank you so much.
