They grow up fast. Cherish the time when they are young. Of course, maybe later you get to spoil the grand kids.

Too bad Jackie gave up the piano playing, it added a little something special to the concert. 😕 Delighted to say I was there. I agree Johnnyb, Jackie's piano playing was a fine addition to her concerts. In this debut performance of her Awakening concert tour at Longwood Gardens, her playing was good. She improved noticeably by the end of the tour.

Of course it is nice to see Jackie widen her talent to include piano, however, I believe you might agree that her piano skill will not match her vocal talent and likely end up detracting from her primary talent. Her vocal talent would likely be drawn down to the lowest denominator --- piano playing. It would likely be a distraction and cause her to miss a lyric or two while trying to divide her focus upon remembering what chord comes next. It is much easier for someone like Lady GG as she was primarily trained as a concert pianist. So she had excellent trained and practiced piano skills and simply added her vocals to it. Much like Emily Bear --- piano and then vocals.

I think she practiced the introduction to My Immortal to display a little entertaining versatility. It was not an easy score to perform while singing, and she did well enough to earn recognition for challenging herself, particularly displaying an attempt at something not in her comfort zone. Her courage is to be admired.

CL . . . If I understand you correctly, her occasional addition of a piano accompaniment to a specific piece would be considered a perk to her concert and not a routine thing for most every piece in a concert.

Definitely, Gordie. My Immortal was a novelty because of her piano intro, and audiences enjoyed her little venture in accompanying herself, knowing she is not accomplished. I hope she learns the accompaniment, at least in part, to another song in the near future that may become a feature in her concerts. It depends upon Jackie's interest in pursuing the piano with that in mind. I don't expect her to ever become her own accompanist in concerts.

However, it's nice to see Jackie playing the piano. I give her an A for effort!

I also agree Jackie is not ready to mesmerize us with her piano mastery. She probably never will be. She does seem to dally with new additions to her concerts rather than apply full-on dedication. I think though, she might well have some softer, jazzy tune in her future that could be accompanied by her playing chords on the piano as she sings. I could be wrong, again.
