Already posted in full to YouTube early this morning. Here it is. But would someone please tell me what she's trying to tell us with it. I cannot make out one word of lyric. Nice beat, but melodically nothing that special, imho. Sounds of 80s thro early 90s to me, appealing to Gen M market? Her age group, Gen Z, which is apparently who she says she's trying to attract, I can't see finding this at all interesting and remaining elusively out of touch and reach to her.

Don't know how accurate this is, but here's a take on the lyrics:
"Behind My Eyes"
I, I've been getting kinda scared And feeling unprepared For what's to come
There's this fear deep inside of me Like there's something I cannot see And it's coming after me Its hard to bare
If you could see behind my eyes You'd see the truth inside the lies And if you read between the lines You'd see I'm running from my mind
Things lurking in the dark They like to leave a mark Inside of you
If you care just to take a peek In a false reality Come take a trip with me Let's go to the moon
If you could see behind my eyes You'd see the truth inside the lies And if you read between the lines You'd see I'm running from my mind
Fade in and out of a daydream Our waking life torn at the seam I am the match You're the gasoline
If you could see behind my eyes You'd see the truth inside the lies And if you read between the lines You'd see I'm running from my mind
If you could see behind my eyes You'd see the truth inside the lies And if you read between the lines You'd see I'm running from my mind Fade in and out of a daydream Our waking life torn at the seam I am the match You're the gasoline

Well. That very accurately and with poetic urgency describes what leads one to seek psychotheraputic healing. And I guess, Jackie, because she's a vocal "artist" is compelled to express musically what is not only on her mind but literally threatening to destroy it, from within it. I take her seriously, and sympathetically, because I was where she is in my 20s. I wish her well to healing and escaping with professional and spiritual help from what is torturing her. However, I don't think, this song and others like it she maay compose about her condition, will goose her career or shift it into high gear. It may be good therapy. But good for business, not so much.

Video with lyrics (official): Comment on this video, one among the overwhelmingly positive responses to Behind My Eyes: "Yes, it is scary to share who you are and where you're at right now. This is an excellent song. Some people will love it, some will hate it. As hard as it will be, ignore those that hate it, they're just wanting that little 13 year old prodigy back despite knowing, that no one is allowed to stay a child. We all must grow up and become the man or woman we were born to be and you have grown into a beautiful young woman still talented and skilled in her craft. Always remember, you do not need the big record labels approval to create a song. You have a following that will support you as an independent artist if you should choose to go that way."

I really like the new song. The music gets you in. The vocals are interesting and well integrated with the beat. I hope this is a sign of things to come!

The more I listen to this song, the more I like it!! But, caveat, I'll continue sticking with her as long as she sticks with her promise of not abandoning her roots! Her subsequent concerts will tell us if she's including CC songs in her repertoire!!

How interesting. Very soon after I commented (YouTube) that I couldn't distinguish the lyric on her song, her original post disappeared to be replaced by the one with lyrics. Nearly all the comments were sympathetically, and synchophantically favorable as they are now overwhelmingly on her replacement post. Also, there were no negative comments, but 2, including mine, that I like to think of as ..... considerately iconoclastic. But the over-the-top posters are doing her no favors. I really question why she or anyone else would think this song, chock full of TMI and that requires captioning throughout to deliver the message is a game changer. I think a 30 year old Jackie is going to look back on it with embarrassment and asking herself, what in the "h" was I thinking. As I put it earlier. Maybe good therapy. Unlikely to inspire new and better business for her.

I just downloaded the song from Amazon. This is a new direction for Jackie. It is a great song showing a deeper and more mature side of Jackie. If she loses some fans because of this new direction then they were never fans to begin with. Is there a full album in the future?

Melody Place Records announcement: "Melody Place is fast at work on a new project of original music from multi-platinum selling Jackie Evancho. The music, produced by Greg Camp (Smashmouth), is a new sound for the classically known singer. The songs are autobiographical about her dealings with mental illness." An EP will be released 2024 but no news yet of a release date.

I think a 30 year old Jackie is going to look back on it with embarrassment and asking herself, what in the "h" was I thinking. Over not saying how many years, I've looked at computer programs I've written as little as five years earlier and asked myself the same question. :-) Not that they didn't work before, but that I'd have done them differently (hopefully better) later. That sort of thing is a condition of life. It would be odd not to happen. A lot of people go through an age of TMI. Some that had limited social circles do it later, I suppose. No big deal.

Not one negative comment on Jackie's video, except from a notorious troll. Listeners are understanding her intention and relating to the song, if not simply enjoying it. With such a reception, there is no reason for Jackie to ever feel embarrassed or regretful. She has already achieved her purpose.
Her introductory statement: ".....I’m nervous to share this part of me. While it’s who I’ve been for a while, it will be new to you all. In the end, It’s my truth, and I hope you all take a piece of it with you."
This is just one especially articulate comment among the overwhelmingly positive responses.
"This is one of those songs to which I think a lot of people of all ages and many life experiences will be able to relate, each in our own way for our own reason(s).....I love the catchy rhythm and the varying beat of the instrumentation -- definitely a winner right there! -- but it's the lyrics which really catch my ears and my attention and get me thinking and, yes, feeling..... Jackie, this is just really so so, good that you are finding a way of healing by using your love of music, your natural gift of a beautiful voice and your own developing sense of self as you are continuing to work through how to make this unique person, the real you, even stronger by facing the demons and challenging them. Your music is one of your strongest tools to use in this fight to claim yourself and your own identity -- keep exploring, keep experimenting, keep writing and singing."

Thanks, johnnyb Yup, Jackie's song is a "banger". What is a banger song? "People typically use the term banger to refer to a high-energy, tightly-crafted song. Bangers are often but definitely not always pop songs, featuring highly infectious beats. Whatever the genre, the true mark of a banger is that it makes listeners want to get up and dance - or at the very least, bang their head in time with the music." Jackie banging to her own song being played on the radio.......That is delightful to see. If you listen with headphones, you really hear the driving bass runs
