IN THE BEGINNING Part 1: Talent competitions leading to America's Got Talent
Jackie Evancho was born April 9, 2000. When Jackie was 7/8 years old, she and her family had gone to see the film version of Phantom of the Opera. Mesmerized by the music and the story, little Jackie began "singing the songs around the house". Her mother happens to hear a wonderous voice coming from Jackie's room. "Is that you singing ?", she asks. Impressed with her voice, she asks Jackie if she would like to enter a talent contest....."I was all up for it", says Jackie. At her first competition, on the talent show Kean Idol, Jackie finishes runner-up performing one of her favorite songs from Phantom.
Meanwhile, Jackie inspires a large fan following on You Tube when she begins posting home-made videos such as this, a song from Phantom by request. Her vocal control, pitch accuracy and natural expressiveness are apparent even at this young age.
At age 8, Jackie competes on Kean Idol, Feb 23 2009 , singing Ave Maria which takes her to the semi-finals Mar 22, 2009
March 22, At age 8, Jackie performs "Con Te Partiro" on Kean Idol 2009, and is awarded 1st runner-up.
June, 2009 at age 9, Jackie competes on Talent Quest singing her favorite Puccini aria. Host Debra Crosby is visibly moved to tears, while contestants are captivated by a little girl wearing sandals with a pink bow in her hair singing opera. About Debra...."As the former executive producer and host of the popular Boston Talent Quest TV Show, Debra Crosby introduced undiscovered performing artists like international icon Jackie Evancho to 2.5 million viewers." -Enterprise Center, Salem State University
A solo mini-Christmas concert at Highmark in her hometown of Pittsburgh gets the attention of WTAE-TV Pittsburgh
"Jackie Evancho, of Pine Township, is just 9 years old but sings with a voice well beyond her years. Her first CD is out, and she's performing in concerts around Pittsburgh".
JACKIE GETS A SPOT ON AMERICA'S GOT TALENT IN THE QUARTERFINALS.
Jackie had twice attempted to get a live audition on AGT at age 9, but was passed by both times. Jackie's mother later sends a clip of Jackie's performance of "Panis Angelicus" from a mini-Christmas concert performance to America's Got Talent as a YouTube submission in a final hope of getting her a live audition on the show.
The video is voted on by the AGT audience and gains the highest number of votes of all the YouTube submissions, and Jackie is given an opportunity to perform in the quarterfinals of season 5 (2010), that memorable live audition performance of the Puccini aria, "O Mio Babbino Caro". 3 subsequent performances take her to the Finale and a duet performance with her idol, Classical Crossover star Sarah Brightman, ultimately finishing runner-up to Blues singer and winner, Michael Grimm.
"All we want to do is find that one moment, that one gem, that one star from a place we never looked before on America's Got Talent. And, you know what? This is the moment, you're the star." -Judge Howie Mandel
Comment 7/23/2023: "The original video of this performance from 'America's Got Talent' channel reached over 3.64 Million views on YouTube in the first 12 hours after it was posted. That is still the AGT record for most views in the first 12 hours of any AGT performance."

IN THE BEGINNING Part 2 of 2: Jackie meets legendary producer, David Foster (The Hit Man)
While Jackie is competing on talent shows at age 8/9, she records her first album, "Prelude to a Dream", a limited edition studio album of classical crossover covers released independently Nov 10, 2009. It was withdrawn from distribution a year and a half later and is now a collectors album which has sold for more than $3000 for an original. Jackie's father stated the reason it was withdrawn: "Her current voice no longer sounds like what it did then....we decided to withdraw Prelude to a Dream and will be concentrating on new material as part of her progress." Track #7 of the album, "To Where You Are", would become significant in getting the attention of producer, David Foster.
At age 9, Jackie auditions for David Foster's regional "Hit Man Talent Search" in New Jersey and earns a spot in the regional semi-finals. In this video, she meets David for the first time, then rehearses with him, followed by an impromptu duet back stage with Canadian classical singer, Cody Karey, with whom she would later perform a duet of "The Prayer" in concert Dec. 2011.
On Oct. 24, 2009, Jackie performs the song on "David Foster And Friends" at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. where she finishes runner-up to Canadian tenor, Christopher Dallo. Christopher would later perform in Jackie's concert at The Benedum Center in Pittsburgh during her 2011 Christmas tour,
This occasion in Newark would prove to be the beginning of a professional and long-time personal relationship with David Foster who, after Jackie's success on AGT, becomes Jackie's producer and mentor...."My music dad", she calls him. David had a significant influence together with AGT producer, Simon Cowell and SycoMusic/Columbia Records in signing Jackie to a contract to record and release the EP album, "O Holy Night", released 2 months following her farewell to AGT. The album sold over 1M copies and made Jackie the youngest Platinum solo artist in U.S. history. Despite having met Jackie prior to AGT, David Foster claims not to have "discovered" Jackie, rather attributing that to AGT. There's no doubt however that he had his eye on her as a future protege. Fortunately, finishing runner-up on AGT gave Jackie the freedom to pursue a career unfettered by contractual obligations and limitations she would have been subject to had she won. As Jackie has said on occasion in response to comments about her having placed second in the competition, "Second was first for me".
David Foster promotes the young AGT star, getting her established as a child classical crossover artist with the production and release of her second full-length album, recorded in his home studio. The album, "Dream With Me", was released June 3, 2011 and hit the Billboard Classical Chart at #1. With over 500K copies sold, the album was certified Gold. At age 11, Jackie had become a Platinum and Gold classical crossover recording artist, just 3 years after her first talent competition.
The Making of Dream With Me
The album leads to the PBS Great Performances million-dollar production, "Dream With Me in Concert".....Jackie had turned 11 only days before the concert was filmed.
"The sensational Jackie Evancho brings the power of her debut album Dream With Me to the stage in her first concert event. Backed by a full orchestra, the 11-year-old talent charms audiences with a mix of classical arias and timeless standards.".....Behind the Scenes:

JACKIE REVEALS HER STRUGGLES AGING IN THE PUBLIC EYE Part 1 of 3: Interviews
At age 18, Good Morning America -Talks about her eating disorder
At age 18, ET Canada -Talks about perfection, body dysmorphia and more
Meanwhile, Jackie had been touring in concert, competed on The Masked Singer at age 19 (filming from Jan thru Feb, 2020), and began recording her 9th album with the release of her single, "River" in Oct, 2020. Then, Jackie disappeared from the public around Nov/Dec, 2020 and was unheard from until November 2021 when she finally emerged with a Facebook post explaining her absence. She had been suffering a serious relapse of anorexia that required in-patient care, dealing with mental stress, and recovering from a broken back due to a car accident which later revealed that she had anorexia-caused osteoporosis. In addition, her parents divorced in early 2021, her Pittsburgh suburban mansion was sold and siblings had gone separate ways though not emotionally, the bond between them strong as always. Consumed by physical problems and mental stress, she had chosen to abandon social media until an appropriate time when she would feel prepared to disclose her circumstances. Meanwhile, some fans criticized her harshly on Instagram and YouTube for having gone silent without notice, feeling they were owed an explanation.
Her first return to the stage since March, 2020 due to the covid pandemic shutdown of concert venues, and then her ordeal through 2021, was with her "Home for the Holidays" Christmas concert in Millersville, PA. on Dec. 17, 2021. She then resumed her concert tour with engagements in March, 2022. Since then, she has discussed her condition in various media such as Facebook, Instagram, magazine articles and the following interviews:

"AMERICA'S SWEETHEART" Part 2: Jackie's Stage Presence as a Child Performer.
Simply put, there is absolutely nothing pretentious about Jackie. On and off stage, she is the same person, one of the most genuine, humble and gracious performers I've ever witnessed, as evidenced in this performance at age 12 while on tour. Singing to an attentive audience is pure joy for her, confident and poised, yet a little shy, "The stage is my home", she says, "It's where I'm the happiest". Notice the spontaneous mannerisms which have continually endeared her to her audiences....the giggles. two-handed waves, the way she unconsciously pinches her dress, her natural expressiveness, the smiles in response to individuals in the audience....and finally, skipping off stage in sheer delight at having pleased her audience. Jackie's intimate connection with her audiences contributes to why she is called "America's Sweetheart". With a stunningly pure voice, she is "the whole package", captivating.
Here's what others have had to say about this performance:
"OMG She is great! So soft, so expressive, so natural, never with the intention of showing off! Her voice a balsam to the soul!"
"...She sings this beautifully, and she still has that delightful way of presenting and showing appreciation for the way the audience reacts to her. Lovely stuff."
"She lights up the stage with her presence and the heart with her voice. What A great joy."
"It is so very hard to watch and to listen to her sing and not believe that you are in a dream of some kind.. I catch myself staring at her, forgetting to breathe...."
"When you love and know you're loved. This is what you hear and see!"
"She is beyond talented. Such poise. Her rapport with the audience is something to behold. I love the way she looks at the audience near the end and giggles as only she can."
"This stunning performance was nothing short of pure artistic perfection. Miss Evancho is now projecting more and more confidence with every concert. Her gracious style, charming personality, and genuine love for the music and her audiences truly stands out more than ever. She is becoming quite the elegant and lovely young lady that all of her fans and admirers always knew she would be. She never disappoints."
"Jackie's audiences are beautiful to see because they are there to see the whole package. They seem to get as much pleasure out of hearing her speak and seeing her having fun as they do listening to her sing."
"...and just like that, she disappears behind the stage, as if she were a figment of your imagination, and not really there at all. But she was there, you heard her and you saw her, she is real."
Nov 14, 2012. Verizon Theater, Grand Prairie, Texas
By the way, renown conductor and Jackie's concert mentor, Maestro John Mario DiCostanzo, is still acknowledged as "the principal tour conductor for Jackie Evancho's Songs of the Silver Screen Tour", also "noted for his exemplary affinity for accompaniment of singers throughout the Classical and Pop world".

THE HUMANITARIAN Part 1 of 3: Jackie Evancho Named Spokesperson for Mission: Humane "Did you know that Jackie Evancho is the youngest celebrity ambassador for 'The Humane Society of the United States'? Jackie helps to raise awareness about the need to protect baby seals from the cruel hunters who kill them for their beautiful white fur in Alaska.... The Humane Society of the United States campaign reaches out to children.".... "It’s no secret that singing sensation Jackie Evancho loves animals. Jackie declared her love for baby seals during an interview on the TV show "America’s Got Talent" last year, according to her father, Mike Evancho. After that declaration, the Humane Society of the United States contacted the Evancho family to ask if Jackie would sing at its annual “Chefs for Seals” event, which promotes efforts to end seal hunting. Now the Humane Society has taken the connection one step further and asked Jackie to be the spokesperson for Mission: Humane, its campaign to get kids involved in animal protection. Jackie loves animals and is thrilled to be helping them through Mission: Humane,” said Mike Evancho from his Richland Township home Jackie became aware of the plight of baby seals and clubbing deaths while watching a show on the Discovery Channel. Soon after, she and a friend made small posters aimed at saving baby seals. When she was asked on the show what she would do with the money if she won, one of the things she said was to save baby seals,” said Mike. Kathy Bauch, senior director for the society said, “Right after she made that statement, I received about 15 emails saying, ‘Have you seen this child that wants to protect baby seals?’ and so we reached out to her.” The connection resulted in Jackie performing at the "Chefs for Seals" event in Los Angeles in January. Jackie was a huge hit with the audience, and a video shot for its website also was a hit. Since Jackie wanted to do more, the society decided to appoint her to be its official spokesperson for the Mission: Humane campaign. “We knew that as a child, Jackie could relate to other children,” said Bauch. “And with such a wide fan base, we knew she would reach a lot of people.” The idea behind the campaign is that children can make a difference in the protection and care of animals. “We have seen children make a difference in society so we know this is an important campaign,” said Bauch. It is also one that Jackie is delighted to be a part of, said her dad. “She was very honored. I know that is the ‘right’ thing to say, but we really mean it,” he said. “And anyone who knows us knows we love animals.”..... ___________________________________________________________________________________ "Young phenomenon singer Jackie Evancho at the "Chefs for Seals" event in Beverly Hills to end the Seal Hunt in Canada."
