Having just seen Jackie at her Christmas concert in Lexington, Mass., I am pining even more for Jackie to do a TV Christmas Special. With your indulgence I am reposting a thread I created two years ago with some minor changes:
I think we would all love to see Jackie do another TV special. This time of year my mind turns to Christmas with Jackie Evancho.
I understand that Jackie's PBS specials cost about $million each. Well, no wonder - 11 or so cameras, recording the audio in situ, make-up artist, hair stylist, costumer, et al. Thus, there are a million reasons there won't be a Christmas special with Jackie anytime soon.
But I can dream too.
We need to imagine a low-cost way of producing a Christmas with Jackie Evancho TV special. Using one and only one film crew (heck, Juliet who showed an interest in photography in her earlier years could do it with a smart phone) and taking the sound tracks from Jackie's previous recordings, rather than trying to record the sound in situ, we can pare the budget considerably. In essence, the TV special would be a series of music videos.
Scene I Jackie is alone in a recording studio. A sprig of mistletoe hangs from the microphone boom. A forlorn "Charlie Brown Christmas tree" stands alone on a stool next to Jackie. Jackie wistfully sings I'll Be Home for Christmas. Cut to the Evancho home: Juliet, Zak and Rachel are decorating the family Christmas tree; Mike and Lisa alternately draw a window curtain aside and peer out into the nite as it snows heavily. Concern etches Mike's and Lisa's faces. Cut to a pair of headlights cutting thru the snow and dark. Cut to Jackie arriving at the home's front door laden with brightly wrapped presents - Jackie's home. Joy abounds. Cut to Jackie hanging her favorite ornament on the Christmas tree, smilingly warmly. Song ends.
Scene II Jackie and brother and sisters are sitting/sprawling on the floor in front of the fireplace roasting chestnuts in the Evancho home as Jackie sings The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire). Interspersed in the video are scenes of Jackie, lisa and the other children having fun baking & decorating Christmas cookies in the kitchen. Song ends.
Scene III Jackie is in a kindergarten classroom. The children are busy at their desks coloring pictures of Santa Claus and Christmas trees as Jackie strolls about the room singing a light-hearted Christmas song. Interspersed are shots of children holding their drawings up to the camera. As the song end, the children are lined up in front of Jackie, proudly holding their artistic creations. Kicker: the children gather around Jackie and sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas as Jackie smiles broadly.
Scene IV Jackie, bundled against the cold, walks up a hill toward a lone pine tree which stands atop the hill. It is a clear and starry nite, She is singing Silent Nite. As the song ends, the brightest star in the firmament aligns with the tip top of the tree. Jackie smiles knowingly as the song ends.
Scene V Jackie, dressed in old-fashioned clothing, approaches small antique table. Atop the table are three glass snow globes. In turn, Jackie picks up each of the snow globes and shakes them. As she starts to sing I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas, a ballerina inside the first snow globe pirouettes in a scene from The Nutcracker... Inside the second snow globe children build a snowman... and the third snow globe a horse pulls a open sleigh thru the snow. Note: stock footage is used for each of these scenarios.
Scene VI Jackie is in a chapel with beautiful stained-glass windows. She sings O Come All, Ye Faithful as she walks slowly down the aisle, passing empty pews. As she walks, Jackie gazes upward toward the stained-glass windows and the camera lingers on each window in turn. As the song ends, Jackie is in front of the church, facing the pews. The camera pulls back and, lo and behold, the once empty pews are now filled with congregants. Jackie smiles.
Scene VII Jackie is in an ornate church, dressed in a red gown. The altar is flush with poinsettias. Jackie stands before the altar and sings O Holy Nite. The scene ends with a view of a manger.
I know nothing of TV production, but think each of these scenes could be filmed in the Pittsburgh area, thus saving money. Further, in my imagination, we can dispense with the wardrobe mistress, key grip, best boy, hair stylist...saving even more money. I would love to read any other imagined scenes for our fantasy Christmas with Jackie Evancho TV special.
P.S. I am reminded each Christmas season that It's a Wonderful Life was not a box office hit when it was released to theatres. The movie only became favorite Christmas fare when it passed out of copyright and WOR TV in NYC played in a continuous loop each Christmas time at no cost to the station. So too, it is my Christmas wish that Christmas with Jackie Evancho could be produced and shown at little cost to TV stations. I think it would gain in popularity year by year and become a Christmas tradition for millions.
rickolsen: I gave my cats some gravy dinner a couple of hours ago. Brandie and Sampson are sleeping on the loveseat. Phoenix is sleeping in on my bed. I am watching football and munching raw broccoli. Broccoli has lots of vitamin C. It is good for winter.

rickolsen: It was 38 degrees today. 40 years ago it would have been 0 or lower. We have less than 6 inches of snow on the ground. 40 years ago we would have had at least 4 feet. Michigan winters are vastly different from what they were in the 60's.

rickolsen: I gave my cats some gravy dinner awhile ago. Phoenix is sleeping on the couch. Sampson is in on my bed. Brandie is on the loveseat. I'm watching football. I made spaghetti today and I'm having some for supper with parmesan cheese. I like it.

rickolsen: I ordered my aftershave on ebay like I always do. Bay Rum. I like the smell of it. I had to go to the post office to pick it up. One bottle was leaking. I get 2 at a time. About half the bottle was gone. This is the only problem I have ever had with ebay.

rickolsen: I take it back. Once I got a bucket of cat litter and it had no handle. That wasn't ebay's fault. That was the shipper. Really my aftershave wasn't ebay's fault either. Shipping accidents sometimes happen. I still love ebay and will continue to use them.

rickolsen: I'm munching corn chips and watching football. I like corn chips better than potato chips. Phoenix and Sampson are sleeping in on my bed. Brandie is preening herself on the love seat. She will be sleeping soon. I have a good life. I love my cats.

rickolsen: Brandie is sleeping, so all 3 of my cats are sleeping now. I gave them gravy dinner about an hour ago. I'm watching a good football game. Peyton Manning is creaming Arizona. I'm going to eat a couple of cucumbers now. They are so good.

rickolsen: I got some Greek pasta salad, cole slaw, and deviled egg potato salad today. The Greek pasta salad has lots of feta cheese. I love feta cheese. I gave my cats some gravy dinner a while ago. They will be sleeping soon. I'm eating Greek pasta salad.

rickolsen: My cole slaw is gone. I've got half the Greek pasta salad and potato salad left. I'm not supposed to eat pasta or potatoes, but my doctor said I can eat them in moderation. When you are diabetic you can't eat anything good or cheap. I eat what I want.

rickolsen: My cats are all sleeping. Phoenix and Sampson are in on my bed. Brandie is on the loveseat here in the livingroom with me. I'm watching football and munching corn chips. If you like corn chips get Great Value corn chips at Walmart. They are really good.

rickolsen: It is 10:00 am. My cats are all sleeping. Phoenix and Sampson are in on my bed. Brandie is on the love seat. I didn't give them gravy dinner because they didn't ask for it. When they do I will give it to them. I'm watching football.

rickolsen: I just gave my cats some gravy dinner. Prime filet chicken. They like that kind. They are gobbling it down. They will be sleeping soon. I'm watching football.

rickolsen: My brother died yesterday. We weren't close. Now I'm the only son of 4 left. All 3 of my cats are on my desk. They came to see me.

Willyiam: May your Brother RIP!!
Feb 14, 2020 8:31:08 GMT -5
rickolsen: Thanks. I haven't seen, or spoken to my brother since my biological mother's funeral in 2009. I was adopted and didn't meet my biological family until 20 years ago when I was 44. We were never close. I see my biological father once in awhile.

rickolsen: One of my sisters found me. I didn't go looking for them. My cats are all sleeping. I'm watching football, and I'm hungry, so I'm making a big pot of stew. Of course it has mushrooms and lots of garlic.
Feb 18, 2020 18:37:03 GMT -5
rickolsen: My stew is so good I wish I could share it with you. I'm glad Agog suggested I cook my own food. I'm a good cook, it's cheaper, tastes better, and it's better for you. I love to cook so it works out perfectly.
Feb 18, 2020 18:55:35 GMT -5
rickolsen: I would cook for my cats, but they need cat food from the store. It has all the minerals and nutrients they need including taurin for good health. You should resist the temptation to feed your cat or dog people food. Give them the pet food they need.
Feb 18, 2020 19:05:10 GMT -5
rickolsen: All 3 of my cats are in the livingroom with me. Brandie is on the loveseat. Phoenix is on the arm of the arm chair and Sampson is on the back of the couch. Today is trash day. I have to run a few errands and then I'm going to put out my trash.
