Are the quotes in your last two posts somewhere in the comments section of the video or elsewhere? I could not find them. to The comments by Lawrence looked like comments brought from another site to my eyes too. Glad you two sensible fans straightened it out between you. Now we all know. Good writing Lawrence.

Lawrence:
I seem to recall that Lara Fabian was asked by Lisa if some changes to the original could be made in order to make the song more age appropriate and to enable Jackie to add emotion to the song as the original was simply beyond her experience to have an emotional connection to the original.

Thanks Gordie, That seems reasonable. I hadn't thought Lara would arbitrarily write new lyrics without an interest in the song first being expressed to her. It was extremely fortunate that she was willing to respond with such dedication to re-writing the lyrics specifically for Jackie. I think it's likely that Lara had heard Jackie sing and thought she could express the appropriate emotion in French. However it transpired, I imagine she was pleased with Jackie's recording.

I could be wrong, but as I recall, Lara Fabian rewrote the lyrics upon the request of David Foster for DWM. Lara and Jackie were members of the cast of "Hit Man Returns". Lara made a very nice comment about Jackie's singing but regretfully I don't remember her words. The change in lyrics was a very nice gesture from a Superstar to a young star in her infancy.

I agree that David Foster likely made the direct request to Lara but Lisa was at that time very careful that songs were age appropriate for Jackie and that she was able to emotionally relate to the music. So the request probably went something like this Lisa > David > Lara.
David was well connected to both Jackie and Lara so it was very simple for him.
In 2001, she collaborated with David Foster and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to record the Canadian national anthem, O Canada, in an English version, a French version, and a bilingual (French/English) version, for a promotion of the Government of Canada. Lara and David both hold Canadian citizenship.

Is Jackie just another pretty voice? My father is 98. He was lucky to survive a direct hit on his tank that ended his soldiering. He has rebuilt his life the hard way and is the hardest man to impress I know of. He has few personal pleasures but when I put Jackie on for him or sit him down in front of You Tube he is as captivated as I am: "What a voice," he says... "I've never heard anything like it; she is wonderful," and so on. After a while I got to thinking, well, if he likes Jackie, there are others... so I sat him in front of a performance by another girl who I also think has a very beautiful voice. Surely this will be another eyeopener for him I thought, but only seconds into the song he sad flatly, "No. I don't like her. Nowhere near as good as Jackie." I've tried other artists on him a few times but none have the effect of Jackie. All I can say is father knows best.

I would think that Ms. Fabian agreed to do what any other songwriter would have. That was the price for her song being included on a major Sony/Columbia album, produced by David Foster, that had a lot of promotional money behind it. Just a dash of reality. Songwriters are in the business to earn royalties for their songs, not to make gestures. Ms. Fabian was hoping for big sales of the English version. I'm sure she did well. Didn't DWM make platinum in a couple of years?

Yes, I know, but I said a couple of years. Didn't DWM eventually sell enough to be rated platinum? Of course, I don't know if, by that time, Columbia was willing to pay for the certification. Wiki probably does.
