So when is the new album coming out? Would seem to have to be after Christmas. Too bad or maybe not so bad? The winter selling season is quite important to retailers. It generates upwards of 20% of retail sales for the year for many. Some retailers have as much as 30% of their sales occur during this selling season per the National Retail Federation. And sales are anticipated to increase this year by 4.3% to 4.8%. Winter Holiday Selling FAQs from National Retail FederationHowever, Jackie's new album probably would have been overwhelmed by more season oriented albums and other album releases by the Majors trying to tap into the winter selling season. By releasing after the beginning of the year, Jackie may be able to generate decent sales figures due to the core of Jackie's fans and thus continue with another number 1 on the Billboard Classics list. Plus may be able to get on the Billboard non-Classics lists since not many "super stars" will be releasing albums. So this could be a smart marketing move to generate perceived high rankings even though actual sales may not be that high? In fact, January and before February 15 release dates are considered good for Indie music album releases as the majors tend to cool their jets after the big Holiday selling season of November and December. Plus October (and April) is considered one of the two worse times of the year for an Indie album to be released. Note that I know that technically Jackie may not be an Indie, but her music area tends to be treated by the majors like an Indie. Ergo, from that point-of-view, Jackie's new album is like an Indie album even if it is released by a division of a major. Best Times To Release Indie Music Albums

What few there were weren't even in the Seasonal (Garden/Holiday) shop, but rather thrown into an obscure, unmarked bin that wasn't even half full, placed next to the cellphone setup. (And no - NONE of them were Jackie's.) I think even Christmas CD have gone the way of regular ones, displaced by all the commercial music downloads.

The Dutch pianist's refined playing and emotive compositions have garnered him much recognition, both in the USA and in Europe. His latest CD Malnoia is an unorthodox project that mixes jazz and chamber music. The album was released in 2017 on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records and was critically acclaimed. In January 2018 the trio presented the album in a series of CD-presentations in the Netherlands, and made an appearance on national television in the TV-show Vrije Geluiden. In April of that year, they performed in Egypt in Cairo and at the legendary Library of Alexandria. In June, Malnoia opened the “European Sound Series” as part of The Blue Note Jazz Festival in New York City. “Jorn is a musician of great sensibility, with a very inventive mind. He will surprise us, I’m sure, and so will his music." — Jean-Michel Pilc

Depending on the store*, IMO Walmart is incompetent at CD placement. On past occasions when they had the exclusive on the bonus special, they didn't even have it on the shelves on release morning, but had to get it from the back. * My impression is that competence varies by store and even department; some of the rural ones, both a bit less crazy busy and perhaps with a better work ethic among employees, tended to be better than the ones near cities; although even among the latter, better than average managers made a difference. Contrast that with what I've seen in Target, where I saw a meeting of the folks in electronics and media, and they were definitely making a point of being familiar with recent releases of music, videos, and games.

I agree about the general incompetence of Walmart - years ago when her first Christmas album HC came out, I was in a rural one in northern Arkansas (home of WM) on the first day of release and had to go to the service desk and get a manager to go get it out of the back.

Jackiejunkies brings to our attention, that the cut from Jackie's song above appears to be from the Musical Hamilton

He's certainly different from the old hacks she's been working with.

Perhaps, this will turn out to be the young musician who can take Jackie to a new level of adult popularity. He's certainly different from the old hacks she's been working with. Julia, As far as we know from Jorn's sound snippet, he is providing piano tracks, certainly along with other musicians laying tracks, for two or maybe more songs on the album. Why, in your opinion, would he have enough influence upon the album to "take Jackie to a new level of adult populartity"? And, please tell us who, in particular, are the "old hacks" to whom you refer.

I really hope she knows what she is doing - singing this new epic song - the stakes are very high
and even she is nothing compared to Audra McDonald (see last video)
As a untrained singer...she will be automatically compared with world class...she only can loose
In the long run she won't be going anywhere with the old cross over stuff..a kid/teen singing might be cute but when you are a grown up there is no "Welpenschutz" (german) - puppy protection? anymore. When you are 19/20 no one is interested anymore if you were the cute kid baskeball player - there are the professionals in the NBA
Btw. Hamilton is simply best musical in recent years - rap/hip-hop is basic US culture same as jazz - rap/hip-hop has its foundings in the griot tradition of the people (Slaves) coming from Africa. Perhaps you know the last scene of the Roots series - oral history by the old griot - but to calm the members down - I don't think there would be a fitting song for Evancho in Hamilton.
If she really want to song this songs right - Music College/University - a few years daily hard work - and perhaps with 25 or later...

If she were only going to music school where she would be surrounded by young talent in all phases of the music business, then she couldn't help but meet them. But Jackie seems content swaddled in her family cocoon. As to "hacks", I refer to that 40 or 50 year old she had as producer for the pop part of her last album which sold badly. His last minor success had been with a young singer 10 years before and the two songwriters who were trying to teach her songwriting were also veterans and hardly names in the industry now, if ever. If you want the cream of the crop to work with you, you have to pay for it if your not a major seller which would guarantee them large royalties.

I truly hope this producer can help to take Jackie's album to a whole new level and can sell a mega load of copies. IMHO this is make or break for Jackie album wise, if it flops badly like the last one did, God only knows when she would do another one again. Keep your fingers cross that this one does a lot better then the last one did.

When you registered, it was apparent by your initial posts that you are not here as an advocate for Jackie. I expect we'll here more of your expert criticism. Not that it isn't welcomed, or course. Are you identifying with Till Eulenspiegel, the 16th century German fictional character infamous for his "clownish pranks and tricks"?
